This weekend’s sees the start of Speed Week from Spa Francorchamps in Belgium where the SRO bring together their family of GT3 and GT4 classed racing for two weekends of their finest racing which culminates with the running of the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa next weekend.

Before we get to that point of the calendar however, we have the finest entrée of events to look forward to this weekend as we see the running of the fifth round of the British GT Championship as well as the fourth round of the French FFSA GT4 Series.

The entry list published earlier this week for Sunday’s two-hour British GT race sees an entry of thirty-one GT3 and GT4 cars with again, just the Newbridge Motorsport and R-Racing’s Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s amongst them.

Despite the continuing lack of numbers from the marque, both AMR crews of Matt Topham/Darren Turner and Josh Miller/Jamie Day have been very racy of late with class pole positions and class podiums apiece for each of the #27 Newbridge and #23 R-Racing cars last time out at Snetterton in late June.

This weekend’s events will follow the traditional British GT timetable with private testing kicking off the weekend on Friday before moving onto the more formally timed sessions of Free Practice on Saturday morning before individual Pro and Am driver Qualifying sessions later in the afternoon.

Both driver times will be added together to determine their aggregated lap times and hence the starting order for Sunday’s race that starts at 12:45hrs local.

Championship wise, Topham and Turner still lead both the overall GT4 Drivers Championship by eight points from the Silver classed #42 Stellar Motorsport Audi after their two podium finishes in Norfolk as well as their GT4 Pro-Am Championship with a 24.5-point lead over the #68 Team Brit McLaren crew of Bobby Trundley and Aaron Morgan.

Snetterton also become a round of firsts for the #23 R-Racing crew with their first class win and class podium (with the Championship record breaking age of crew) that has helped lift them up to fifth in the overall GT4 Drivers table and fifth in their Silver Cup Class going into this, their first Spa Speed Week weekender.

Whatever the weather in Belgium, GT racing at Spa never seems to disappoint!
