A heavy AMR attrition rate at Saturdays NLS race at least sees a class win for Walkenhorst

Saturday’s third round visit of the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie proved itself to be more than a bruising episode of the German Club hosted series for many of the Aston Martin Racing powered entries although one did finally come out on top in class.

Starting with the good news – the #35 Walkenhorst Motorsport AMR Vantage GT3 SP9 Pro-Am entry of Benjamin Mazatis, Anders Buchardt and Sami-Matti Trogen finished at the head of the queue within their class at the end of this four-hour race although they, and the one hundred and thirty of competitors have to wait for it as early morning fog again caused race organisers issues with the timetable.

Like all race wins, to win it – first you have to finish it, and that was the issue for the two other SP9 Pro-Am entries after they both faltered during the race. One of those cars was unfortunately the #17 Prosport Racing Vantage GT3 of Maxime Dumarey, Marek Bochmann and Simon Balcaen after fire within the car forced Bochmann to stop on the opening lap. Able to exit the car himself, smoke inhalation meant for a precautionary overnight stay in hospital for him, but he at least reports that he is otherwise OK this morning.

Then there were the five other Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s from both the Prosport Racing and Dorr Motorsport teams within either the SP10 or SP8T classes.

Sadly again, only the #179 Dorr car of Niklas Abrahamsen, Phil Dorr and Olaf Hoppleshauser and their sister #175 car of Marnix Hommerson and Damon Surzyshyn managed to finish yesterdays race albeit one and two laps down respectively. For the locally based Prosport Racing team’s standards – this weekend was one to quickly forget!

Teams will now regroup ahead of the next round of the season in six weeks’ time – which will be a six-hour affair!
