Next stop the beautiful VIR circuit for the GTD classes of IMSA

Two weekends off and the IMSA circus moves on from one iconic North American circuit to another as both the Weathertech Sportscar Championship and the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series head to Virginia International Raceway next weekend with each series having just two rounds remaining after this one.

Last time out at Road America, it was a reversal of fortune for the two Heart of Racing Aston Martin Racing GTD crews within the IMSA Championship after the #27 GTD car of Roman De Angelis and Zacharie Robichon failed to capitalise upon their front row Qualifying position to ultimately finish P9 in class whilst their sister #23 GTD Pro car of Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas were able to convert a P8 starting position into another P3 podium position.

Next weekend’s trip to VIR sees just the GTD Pro and GTD classes compete with nine topflight GTD Pro cars leading the way ahead of the fourteen GTD crews.

Championship wise, Gunn closes slightly upon the present GTD Pro leader (now just 76 points apart) whilst De Angelis loses ground to the GTD class leader after their disappointment from Road America where the gap extends to 720 points going into this round. Both Riberas and Robichon are lower down the table only because of the infrequency within each cars along the season.

Slight changes within the GTD class balance of performance sees the Acura get a performance enhancement whilst the Lamborghini receives additional weight – the AMR Vantage GTD though remains unchanged from recent rounds.

After VIR, the Championship moves onto Indianapolis before concluding again at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in mid-October so points will certainly make for prizes by season end.
