Out with the old and in with the new as five AMR teams pounded the bumps of Sebring at the weekend

It was another decent performance from many of the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crews that took part within the World Racing League’s penultimate round of the season over the infamous bumps of the Sebring International raceway.

Whilst we had listed six such examples within the provisional entry list, the #143 Prosport Competition entry turned out to be within a Porsche in the end but that still left the pair of cars for both the 89X Motorsport and TLM Racing teams plus that from the locally based Automatic Racing team.

For the latter, the Sebring event was the last hurrah for their venerable #909 AMR Vantage GT4, having served the David Russell run team well over the years and series with a car that still carried the name of their recently departed friend Ramin Abdolvahabi.

For these guys – they did the best out of the five proving that age and experience does sometimes pay off against youthfulness and exuberance as they came home with a pair of P4 finishes within the GTO class at the end of the eight-hour race on Saturday and the seven-hour race on Sunday.

The next best finisher was the #172 car from the TLM Racing team who secured P5 and P9 finishes respectively across the two races and ahead of the #289 car who finished P7 and P14. The #89 car failed to finish race one but finished P6 in class in race two whilst the #888 car from the TLM team failed to finish both races after repeated suspension issues took them out each time.

Whilst we say farewell to the #909 car, we welcome the former Van Der Steur AMR Vantage GT4 into the 89X Motorsport crew as they expand to at least three such cars with the VDS team moving up into the heady heights of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship Endurance Cup next season with a new AMR Vantage GTD.
