Toughest racing test to date for the Heart of Racing Valkryie around the streets of Detroit in IMSA

The IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship breaks away from its usual supporting series this weekend as it’s just the topflight GTP and GTD Pro classes that get to race this time around the improvised street circuit of Detroit.

For the Heart of Racing team, that means just a solo effort from their #23 Aston Martin Valkyrie GTP car of Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis as this new programme takes on perhaps it’s most challenging event of its combined IMSA and World Endurance Championship efforts so far.

Having already raced around the street circuit of Long Beach in California earlier in the season, the Detroit circuit will be all about short bursts of speed and power intermingled with usually tight ninety-degree cornering around the usual block system of a major US city.

Last time out at Laguna Seca was one to forget for both Heart of Racing Valkyrie and Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD entries so getting back into the grove will be something of a must for the team but the Detroit Grand Prix event may not be the place where that happens but events on track may of course change the status quo very rapidly.

The entry list sees just eleven GTP and eleven GTD Pro entries for this one-hundred-minute sprint race on Saturday afternoon after Practice 1, 2 and Qualifying on Friday ahead of an effective twenty-minute morning warm-up session before the race.
