Another tough Super GT event for the D'Station Racing AMR crew but they do hang onto P2 within the overall GT300 class battle

Another tough day at the Super GT Series office for the D’Station Racing team as they travelled to Sugo for the next round of their topflight domestic Series with their #777 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3.

Another 300km race this time around but also another long race to look forward to with both a higher success ballast to carry around as well as having a slower fuel fill restrictor in place at their scheduled full service somewhere near the middle of the race.

 

Despite a wet track at times during Free Practice and Qualifying, the #777 car of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg still managed a second-row qualifying position proving again that the ultimate track speed of their green Vantage wasn’t bad – everything would again be down to just how much time they would lose at the stop.

Starting the race on Sunday, the track was still very damp in places after an earlier shower, but we don’t think that there was ever a chance of having to run on full wets again unless the racing was actually falling – which it didn’t for much of the race.

 

A clean start form Fujii saw him hold onto sixth place within their GT300 class during those opening laps and Safety Car periods as others came to grief up the tight circuit layout but after their stop – their race position tumbled within their twenty-nine strong class for Fagg to battle away to claim a lonely P21 at the end.

Despite that, the #777 still retain their second place overall standing within the GT300 class but they did lose a further twenty points on the class leaders going into the event and they have now lost much of their points advantage from those chasing up from behind. The series now moves onto its next round at Autopolis in about three weeks’ time.
