Six Aston Martins for this weekends four hours NLS2

Six Aston Martins for this weekends four hours NLS2

This weekend coming really is getting busier by the day as entry lists are confirmed across the global theatre of GT racing.

The latest all centres around this years forthcoming Nurburgring 24 and the preparatory races and Qualifying rounds catered for within the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie – particularly this weekend with NLS2 where we will see six Aston Martin Racing powered crews from Walkenhorst Motorsport and Prosport Racing teams.

Walkenhorst will this time be the busiest as they plan to field three AMR Vantage GT3 crews across the available SP9 classes as well as a new Vantage GT4 Evo within the SP10 class alongside two older 17A iteration of Vantage GT4 from the locally based Prosport team within both the SP10 and SP8T classes.

Earlier this week, Walkenhorst confirmed their full works Pro driver line up ahead of the 24hr with Mattia Drudi, Christian Krognes, David Pittard and Nicki Thiim, some of those drivers will be on hand again this weekend as they and the team get their eyes in around the infamous “Green hell”.

Starting with the full season NLS entries again has the #140 Prosport GT8R entry of Maxime and Guido Dumarey alongside their sister #175 SP10 entry of Jorge Viebahn, Yannik Himmels and Michel Albers. The #191 Walkenhorst SP10 entry for Niklas Abrahamsen and Hermann Vortkamp complete the GT4 line up in SP10 with their new Evo version.

Both Krognes and Drudi will partner in the team’s #34 Pro classed SP9 entry with former ADAC GT Masters runner Nico Hantke stepping up with Anders Buchardt within the #35 Pro-Am SP9 entry with the #36 Am classed entry being driven by Jorg Breuer, Stefan Aust and Christian Bollrath.

This weekend’s round will be 140 cars and a four-hour race starting at about midday local having already ran their qualifying runs in the morning – weather permitting of course!

An unnecessary public mess and cost as NES cancels their second round at the Nordschliefe on the day

An unnecessary public mess and cost as NES cancels their second round at the Nordschliefe on the day

Politics is always a messy business, and it looks like two Aston Martin Racing powered teams (amongst a few other teams) were caught up this weekend within the continued wranglings with the Nurburgring Endurance Series.

This time forced to cancel their planned four-hour second round of the season at the eleventh hour again this weekend, a walk out by many of the track marshals left the Walkenhorst Motorsport and Prosport Racing and half a dozen other entries with insufficient resources to facilitate a safe event – forcing the cancellation of another event by the race organisers.

Sad for the sport, series and teams and crew involved as most had already arrived on site in Germany before the decision was made.

The locally based Prosport Racing team were due to field another mixed Vantage GT3 and GT4 entry for their customer base as personal clashes takes some of them away from forthcoming rounds of the NLS – all ahead of this year’s 24-hour race in early June.

Intending to join them at the circuit were three new AMR Vantage GT3 crews from the Walkenhorst stable (their #34, #35 and #36 N24 entries) who had to make do with just another test day yesterday.

Hopefully, both NLS and NES series can find a way of living together rather than this expensive and unnecessary public mess!

Doer Confirm a full season NLS effort in 2024

Doer Confirm a full season NLS effort in 2024

Another German team confirming certainly at least part of their 2024 season commitments this week was the Doer Motorsport team who confirmed a full season effort within the long-distance Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie.

Having dipped the metaphorical toe within the NLS series with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 around the notorious and demanding Nurburgring Nordschleife, the team soon ramped that up to a Vantage GT3 effort in time for this season’s 24-hour event before embarking on the remainder of the NLS season with the GT3.

Albeit at a cost of ditching their then ADAC GT4 Germany Series effort, that saw brothers Phil and Ben Dorr partner up with the likes of Darren Turner and Nicki Thiim (as well as being alone) with their #24 SP9 Pro class entered car to end the season with two class podium finishes after NLS 5 and NLS 7 events.

With some decent and credible performances behind them now as well as GT3 experience of the headlining 24Hour event, that will hold them in good stead in time for their return to the most competitively fought class at the front of the NLS grid next season.

Good results for the AMR runners at the ADAC N24 Qualifying weekend

Good results for the AMR runners at the ADAC N24 Qualifying weekend

Apart from one, it appeared to be all systems go for the three remaining Aston Martin Racing powered crews at this weekends ADAC N24 Qualifying weekend around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Two cars apiece from both the Prosport Racing and Dorr Motorsport teams all arrived at the circuit ahead of today’s four-hour event but sadly the #28 Prosport Racing AMR Vantage GT3 of Alex Brundle and Mike David Ortmann suffered damage during one of the earlier qualifying sessions that forced the rebranded car to be retired from the event.

That left the teams SP10 class #78 Vantage GT4 of Guido Dumarey, Yevgen Sokolovskiy, Andreas Patzelt and Hugo Sasse to hold the teams attention, which they did eventually finishing second in class at the end of the four hour ‘race’ albeit one lap down to the class leader.

Then there were the two Dorr run cars – again one GT3 running in the SP9 Pro-Am Class with drivers Darren Turner with brothers Phil and Ben Dorr as well as their #67 SP8T classed Vantage with a four-driver line up of Theo Nouet, Frank Weishar, Rolf Scheibner and Sven Schadler.

Making amends for an error at the NLS2 event last month that cost them seat time around the circuit, the trio place their #69 car within the top fifteen (P2 in class) and ready for the Top 15 shootout when we get to the main event itself later next month.

The teams #67 car also finished the job earlier today, finishing second in class – again, a lap down to the class winner.

The ADAC N24 itself takes place over the weekend of the 18-21st May.

Great AMR customer racing success from the Nordschleife at the weekend

Great AMR customer racing success from the Nordschleife at the weekend

Congratulations and commiserations to the seven Aston Martin Racing powered teams who took part in last weekend’s ADAC Total 24H Rennen from the infamous and notorious Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Six AMR Vantage GT4’s fielded by the PROsport Racing and Doer Motorsport teams came away with podium success in both the SP10 (for GT4) and SP8T (for enhanced GT4 based cars) classes by the end of another punishing twenty-four-hour race where again, the circuit proved to be a cruel mistress.

On the positive note, the #95 Doer Motorsport crew of Phil Dorr, Nick Hancke, Moritz Wiskirohen and Indy Dontjie came away with a class win in the SP8T class with the team’s sister #150 car of Michael Funke, Rolf Scheibner, Peter Posavao and Christian Gebhardt finishing close behind on track and in class to make for a team 1-2 in class.

Then in the GT4 class of SP10, the locally based PROsport Racing team and their #82 car of Christoph Breuer, Alex Mies, Mike David Ortmann and Miklas Born secured an overall class P2 finish despite having led the class for much of the race. They in turn were supported with a P3 in class finish by the #69 Doer Motorsport car of Dierk Moller, Frank Wiesner, Stefan Kenntemich and Finn Albig to round off that podium for the Aston Martin Racing runners.

With the #81 PROsport AMR Vantage GT4 of Guido Dumarey, Alex Walker, Yevgen Sokolovskiy and Michael Hess finishing the race but down in P100 overall and sixth in class, the only non-finishes were the #80 PROsport Racing AMR Vantage GT8R crew of Maxime Dumarey, Guillaume Dumarey, Jean Glorieux and Simon Balcaen who suffered terminal technical issues within their car during the early hours of Sunday morning that that of the #90 TF Sport AMR Vantage GT3 of Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorenson, David Pittard and Maxime Martin

There, the team and car took many by surprise, converting their P25 starting position and the misfortune of others into an early overall race lead, well within the first hour and to hold onto that lead until just before midnight. There, Thiim sadly had no chance in avoiding oil and debris left on track by a car ahead and exited both the track and the race with a heavy side on impact with the armco barrier. Fortunately, Thiim was shaken up, extremely disappointed but otherwise OK but their race was run.

Either way, these results again show that the Aston Martin Racing Vantage race platform is still one to be reckoned with as many of these teams and drivers will be in action again this weekend as the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and GT4 European Series visit Paul Ricard.

Good luck to this weekends ADAC Total N24 Aston Martin Racing powered teams and drivers

Good luck to this weekends ADAC Total N24 Aston Martin Racing powered teams and drivers

With all the pre-Qualifying, Qualifying and now Shoot out laps completed, there lies this weekend the small undertaking of twenty-four hours around the infamous Nurburgring Nordschliefe for the seven Aston Martin Racing powered GT3 and GT4 entries.

The #90 TF Sport entered AMR Vantage GT3 is the sole AMR representation within the topflight SP9 class and features a full Pro driver line up as the team and AMR continue along the quest originally set out by former Amr President David King to snatch this pinnacle of GT3 achievement from that of the German sportscar manufacturers.

One car is all they have but then, only one car can win at the end of the day and drivers Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen, Maxime Martin and David Pittard have all the credential to be able to do so despite their somewhat unexpected P25 Qualifying position (although last night’s results list says P26?).

In GT4, the available SP10 and SP8T classes (for enhanced GT4 cars) are well represented with both the PROsport Racing and Doer Motorsport teams fielding three cars apiece with a Vantage GT8R featuring amongst the PROsport line up.

After Fridays Qualifying for them, both the #81 PROsport and #95 Doer cars took their respective class SP10 and SP8T class pole positions at a highest overall position of P51 on the grid of 134 cars with the closest Aston Martin still P82 overall.

Christoph Breuer, Alex Mies, Mike David Ortmann and Miklas Born drive the #82 Prosport Racing AMR Vantage GT4 SP10. Starting P51 / SP10 Pole Position

Phil Dorr, Nick Hancke, Moritz Wiskirohen and Indy Dontjie drive the #95 Doer Motorsport AMR Vantage SP8T. Starting P53 / SP8T Pole Position

Michael Funke, Rolf Scheibner, Peter Posavao and Christian Gebhardt drive the #150 Doer Motorsport AMR Vantage SP8T. Starting P54

Maxime Dumarey, Guillaume Dumarey, Jean Glorieux and Simon Balcaen drive the #80 PROsport Racing AMR Vantage GT8. Starting P69.

Dierk Moller, Frank Wiesner, Stefan Kenntemich and Finn Albig drive the #69 Doer Motorsport AMR Vantage SP10. Starting P79

Guido Dumarey, Alex Walker, Yevgen Sokolovskiy and Michael Hess drive the #81 PROsport Racing AMR Vantage SP10. Starting P82.

Good luck to them all and the race starts at 16:00hrs local -15:00 UK time

Largest AMR contingent yet take on the Green Hell

Largest AMR contingent yet take on the Green Hell

The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 will make its ADAC TotalEnergies 24H Nürburging debut this weekend with multiple title-winning and 24 Hours of Le Mans class-winning partner team TF Sport, as the ultra-luxury British sportscar brand returns to the top classes of the race for the first time since 2018.

Not only that, but the event will also mark the largest contingent of the current generation Vantage sportscars entered in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, as German teams Dörr Motorsport and the locally-based PROsport Racing enter three Vantage GT4s each – making it seven GTs in total.

The current Vantage GT3, based on the 4-litre V8, turbocharged ultra-luxury roadgoing Vantage sports car, has been gathering miles, and accolades, around the legendary 15.8-mile Nordschleife circuit in Germany’s Eifel region in preparation for its bow in the world’s most gruelling 24-hour race. Having made its competition debut at the track in un-homologated specification when it finished fourth with Maxime Martin (BEL) and Darren Turner (GBR) in 2018, Aston Martin then brought the Vantage back for the NLS8 race last year where Martin and Nicki Thiim (DEN) triumphed over several rival manufacturers. It became the first win for a British marque at the circuit in the modern era. Since then, TF Sport has been contesting rounds of the venue-based Nürburgring Langstrecken Series [NLS], as well as the 24 Hour Qualifiers, to ready itself for the 24 Hours race.

Now TF Sport bids to add to Aston Martin’s proud legacy of class wins with an all-star driver lineup that includes double FIA GT World Endurance champions Thiim and Marco Sørensen (DEN), Le Mans and Spa 24 Hours winner Martin, and Nürburgring specialist David Pittard (GBR).

“The Nürburgring 24 Hours is one of the coolest, toughest and most exciting races that a GT racing driver can take part in,” said AMR works driver Thiim. “It’s always a privilege to do it in an Aston Martin, and this year with Vantage and TF Sport we have a car and team that we know we can be competitive with. This event brings the very best talent in GT racing together, and so much can happen during the 24 hours, so it’s tough to know what will happen, but if things fall our way we have the speed and the ability to race at the front. We will be going hard for sure!”

Aston Martin GT cars have been an ever-present at the Nürburgring since 2005, when Aston Martin Lagonda made its debut in the VLN (now NLS) and Nürburgring 24 Hours with an almost standard V8 Vantage that provided the springboard for the ultra-successful GT4 version. Since then, the marque has enjoyed many notable class successes including victory in the SP9T class in 2018, when Martin, Thiim, Turner and Sørensen finished fourth overall, having led into the final hours amid heavy rain in the last competitive outing for the V12 Vantage GT3. This result still stands as the marque’s best finish in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

In recent years attention has centred on developing the customer-focussed Vantage GT4, which won the SP8T class in 2019 with Jamie Chadwick (GBR), Alex Brundle (GBR) and Peter Cate (GBR). In 2020, AMR partner team Garage 59 finished third in the same class with an upgraded GT8R driven by Jonny Adam (GBR), Alexander West (SWE), Chris Goodwin (GBR) and Turner.

As in 2021, PROsport Racing has maintained an Aston Martin presence in the NLS series, and the team will bring three Vantages to the 24 Hours race, one SP8T class car and two in SP10 , having won the class qualifying races earlier in May.

Dörr Motorsport is contesting the race for the first time with Aston Martin and was also a doubleclass winner in the Qualifiers. It will have two cars in SP8T and one in SP10.

Head of AMR Partner Racing, Huw Tasker said: “A great deal of hard work and preparation has gone into this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours entry, not just from TF Sport with its Vantage GT3, but also our German partners Dörr Motorsport and PROsport Racing. The event is of enormous importance to us at Aston Martin Racing, for it is a great measure of the competitiveness and durability of a GT car. Vantage is a proven world champion and a winner at every level, and it continues to show excellent competitiveness around the world in all variants so success on the Nordschleife would be a key marker of its pedigree.

A great weekend for the Aston Martin Racing Vantage teams as silverware a plenty

A great weekend for the Aston Martin Racing Vantage teams as silverware a plenty

The Aston Martin Vantage claimed a magnificent FIA World Endurance Championship GTE Am class double-podium finish, as well as another pole position, in one of the most gruelling 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps the series has ever produced, last Saturday.

The pole-sitting TF Sport Vantage GTE, driven by Ben Keating (USA), Henrique Chaves (POR) and works driver Marco Sorensen (DEN) was among the quickest GT cars in wet or dry conditions across the entire event and ultimately staged a recovery of epic proportions to finish a justified second. Just as impressive was the fightback from a drive-through penalty by NorthWest AMR team owner and 2017 World Champion Paul Dalla Lana (CDN), David Pittard (GBR) and works driver Nicki Thiim (DEN) to ensure the Sebring winners finished third and remain on top of the GTE Am class standings.

Aston Martin Racing’s three partner teams; TF Sport, NorthWest AMR and D’station Racing arrived at Spa as the in-form challengers, following a magnificent one-two finish for Vantage at the 1000 miles of Sebring, in March, and their crews were keen to keep the momentum going as the championship returned to Europe.

The weekend began well with Keating qualifying on the GTE-Am pole position for a second-straight WEC event, while Dalla Lana made it an all-Aston Martin front row. It was the 2017 world champion who made the superior start and snatched the lead on the opening lap of the race, but this wasn’t the end of the dual, which initially took place under sunny skies. Keating blasted back to the front with a spectacular ‘round the outside’ move at the daunting downhill Pouhon corner just 10 minutes in. Both cars then remained in the hunt for the top spot during the early stints, as did the D’station entry, driven by Tomonobu Fujii.

Dalla Lana dropped to eighth at the end of the first hour after serving a penalty for contact, and with rain falling heavily shortly afterwards – resulting in a series of incidents for rival cars – the race was stopped twice in quick succession. Many subsequent laps were then spent behind the safety car.

A pitstop just before the first red flag by TF Sport meant that, Pittard in the NorthWest AMR #98 car, and Chaves - now aboard the #33 TF Sport entry - had to push as hard as they dared from the lower reaches of the top 10 in the ever-changing track conditions, where a small error could mean instant elimination.

Both drove flawlessly though perfectly executed team strategies, meaning that with the final stops completed and 50 minutes to go, the fight for victory boiled down to a three-car battle that included two-time world champions Sørensen and Thiim, who both crossed the line within four seconds of the winning Porsche to make it four podium finishes from the opening two races of 2022 for the Vantage GTE.

D’station Racing qualified seventh and ran as high as second during the opening hour thanks to an impressive stint by Tomonobu Fujii (JPN), but the #777 Vantage’s race was ruined after Satoshi Hoshino (JPN) was spun around by a rival at the Bus Stop chicane in wet conditions in the third hour. Hoshino dropped off the lead lap as a result, and the seemingly endless number of safety-car periods and Full-Course Yellows prevented opportunities to recover. He and Charlie Fagg (GBR) produced sterling performances to pull the car up to seventh by the finish.

TF Sport also continued its preparations for the ADAC 24h Nürburgring, which takes place on 28-29 May, with the two three-hour Qualifying races in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3. With all its 24h drivers otherwise engaged, TF Sport called works drivers Charlie Eastwood (IRL) and Valentin Hasse-Clot (FRA) into action. They delivered strong performances on their first run in the Vantage GT3 – including an excellent charge to eighth in the second race – to keep the car in the mix ahead of the big event. Partner teams PROsport Racing and Dörr Motorsport both recorded double victories in their classes with the Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

In the British GT Championship, Newbridge Motorsport clinched its second consecutive overall GT4 class victory, in the Silverstone 500, thanks to excellent drives from Darren Turner and Matt Topham, the reigning British GT4 Pro-Am champions.

Huw Tasker, Head of AMR Partner Racing, said: “Vantage enjoyed an excellent weekend, and we were unlucky not to see a second Aston Martin victory in as many WEC races. But Spa always throws up unexpected variables and our partner teams did very well to manage the chaos in Belgium and secure podium results. TF Sport’s Nürburgring quest remains on track and the Vantage GT3 showed more encouraging form ahead of the 24-hour race later in the month. Finally, we must mention the excellent class wins for Dörr Motorsport and PROsport Racing in the Nürburgring 24h Qualifiers and Newbridge Motorsport’s win at Silverstone. The Vantage GT4 continues to prove it is the class of the field at present and we are very proud of this.”

The FIA WEC now moves on to its centrepiece race; the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on 11-12 June

Solid Aston Martin success from the Nordschleife now tinged with sadness

Solid Aston Martin success from the Nordschleife now tinged with sadness

Congratulations to all the Aston Martin Racing teams who took part in this weekends ADAC Total 24 Rennen Qualification race weekend aboard their Vantage GT3 and GT4 platforms although that news does come with the news of sadness.

As reported by AMR’s photographer on site at the circuit, a marshal at the circuit sadly succumbed to injuries from a medical emergency at the circuit earlier and for that we obviously extend our thoughts and prayers to all family, friends and track colleagues affected by today’s news. The ‘orange army’ continues to provide an invaluable and essential asset at every circuit around the world so that we can enjoy this sport and for that, we will be eternally grateful.

Going back to the positive track action this weekend, three AMR Vantage GT4’s from the locally based PROsport Racing team as well as two GT4’s from the Dorr Motorsport team enjoyed great results across their SP8T and SP10 classes locking out the top two places in SP8T and top three places in the SP10 class after Saturday’s first race.

Those results were bolstered by TF Sport’s first venture around the Nordschleife with drivers Charlie Eastwood and Valentin Hasse-Clot deputising for others already busy this weekend in other series in one of their AMR Vantage GT3’s to finish P16 in their SP9 class at their first time of asking.

Today’s race has seen similar success with the #90 TF Sport car moving up to P8 in class with both the #82 PROsport car taking another class win in SP10 and the #69 Dorr car also taking another class win in the SP8T class.

The form sheet now resets again ahead of the start of formal track activity at the start of the ADAC Total 24-hour race week that starts at the end of the month.

God bless!

Another busy weekend ahead for AMRs full partner teams

Another busy weekend ahead for AMRs full partner teams

The Aston Martin Vantage GTE returns to action in the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship [WEC] in the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, having made a winning start to its GTE-Am class campaign with the Sebring 1000 Miles (in the USA), back in March.

Paul Dalla Lana (CDN) and his NorthWest AMR team, along with double world champion Nicki Thiim (DEN) and David Pittard (GBR), head to the famous Belgian venue with a 10-point lead in the championship, having claimed victory in the opening 8-Hour race from the class pole position. The crew carries 30kg of success ballast into the Spa weekend as Dalla Lana seeks a fifth win (to add to those from 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) from his tenth visit to the track.

The trio were chased home in Florida by TF Sport’s #33 Vantage GTE, driven by Sebring class pole-winner Ben Keating (USA), double world champion Marco Sørensen (DEN) and Florian Lattore (FRA) who will be replaced at Spa by the team’s European Le Mans Series charge Henrique Chaves (POR). They will have an additional 20kg of success ballast to race with.

The Aston Martin team running without ballast is the TF Sport-assisted D’station Racing, as the Japanese squad returns to the scene of its WEC debut looking to build on the encouraging sixth place recorded in Sebring. Satoshi Hoshino (JPN) will be joined by regular co-driver Tomonobu Fujii (JPN) and exciting young prospect Charlie Fagg (GBR).

The Vantage GTE, introduced in 2018, recorded its second victory at WEC level during its debut campaign, in the penultimate round of the WEC Super-Season at Spa-Francorchamps in 2019, with future Le Mans GTE Pro class winners Maxime Martin (BEL) and Alex Lynn (GBR). While always competitive in GTE Am however, the current generation Vantage has yet to record a win in the class at Spa.

Embarking on its fourth world championship season, Vantage remains as formidable a title contender as ever. Powered by a race-developed version of the four-litre, twin-turbo-charged V8 engine found in the road car from which it derives, this prototype version of the GT car was all-conquering in the WEC GTE Pro category during the 2019/2020 season. It recorded five wins from eight races, including both Pro and Am classes at the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans, the car took Aston Martin to the FIA GT Manufacturers’ World Championship title and carried Thiim and Sørensen to the drivers’ crown. In total it has claimed 12 class victories so far in WEC.

The Vantage GT3 also fires into action this weekend as TF Sport returns to the Nürburgring Nordschleife in its quest to conquer the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring. With its 24h driver line-up of Martin, Pittard, Sørensen and Thiim all competitively engaged elsewhere this weekend, works drivers Charlie Eastwood (IRL) and Valentin Hasse-Clot (FRA) will pilot the car for the two 3-Hour qualifying races that take place on Saturday and Sunday at the German track.

Huw Tasker, Head of AMR Partner Racing, said: “It’s a crucial weekend for Aston Martin Racing. Our trio of WEC GTEs enjoyed an excellent start to the season, but it’s important to keep the momentum rolling as we look ahead to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Our partners NorthWest AMR, TF Sport and D’station Racing are looking to consolidate strong results from Sebring and take the maximum points possible from Spa, taking into account the success penalties from the opening round. TF Sport is on double duty this weekend – but has already proved more than capable of taming the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A creditable seventh on its debut during the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie Round 3 last month is a strong platform to build from. This weekend gives the team the opportunity to gather more vital data with the 24h taking place at the end of the month.”

Official practice for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps begins on Wednesday 4thMay at 1530 CET, with the race beginning at 1300 on Saturday. Follow details of the event via the official WEC website and App. Meanwhile, official qualifying for the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers begins at 1212 CET on Friday, 7th May, with the first race starting at 1830 on Saturday.

Dorr Motorsport add two Aston Martins for this weekends ADAC Total 24H Qualifying weekend

Dorr Motorsport add two Aston Martins for this weekends ADAC Total 24H Qualifying weekend

The German based Dorr Motorsport team has tonight confirmed a two car Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 entry into this weekend’s ADAC Total Energies 24H Qualifying race weekend.

Having only just embarked upon an ultra-busy, four AMR car effort within the ADAC GT4 Germany Series, the team also has desires in performing at the toughest GT endurance race that there is – around the Nurburgring Nordschleife where the hard work for qualifying for the main event at the end of May starts this weekend.

Posting on social media today, the team has confirmed their #69 car as running with drivers Phil Dorr, motorsport journalist Christian Gebhardt, new AMR Vantage DTM Trophy racer Nick Hancke and Michael Funke. Whilst this car did take part in the pre-season NLS test at the circuit earlier in the year, it did not compete within the opening race despite being listed as a runner.

Their #150 car will run with drivers Stefan Kenntemich, Rolf Scheibner, Dierk Moller, and Frank Weishar with both cars entered in the SP8T class.

These cars are of course in addition to the AMR Vantage GT3’s from both Prosport Racing and TF Sport as well as the AMR GT4 cars from the Prosport team.

Three Astons amongst an entry of 160 cars for round three of the NLS this weekend

Three Astons amongst an entry of 160 cars for round three of the NLS this weekend

Completing the German rounds of motorsport this weekend is (finger crossed again) in the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie who hold their third round of their 2022 season around the infamous and notorious Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit and Nordschliefe combination.

With round two having been cancelled due to weather even before the day back at the end of March, this weekend we again expect to see a slightly loaded Aston Martin Racing partner and customer team participation as some within AMR circles prepare to think and prepare for the upcoming ADAC Total 24hr race due to run later in May.

As far as the NLS full season entries are concerned, we again see the #17 PROsport Racing AMR Vantage GT3 of Maxime Dumarey and Jean Glorieux who undoubtedly want to build upon the success of that car in the opening round after Nico Verdonck was called into action for an incapacitated Glorieux to claim a P14 in the full Pro class. This weekend, the #17 car is due to return to its GT3 Pro-Am class.

With us expecting not to see either of the team’s AMR Vantage GT4s in action at the NLS by virtue of two cars racing at the opening round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series at Oschersleben this weekend, we do in fact see again the #176 SP10 classed GT4 of Guido Dumarey and Alex Walker in action in an obvious third car for the team. Last time out, the #176 claimed a P2 in class result at the end of NLS1 in March.

The additional AMR entry this weekend will of course be the TF Sport prepared GT3 Pro entry for drivers Marco Sorenson, David Pittard and Maxime Martin as the crew and team prepare for a full pseudo factory assault on the biggest prize in GT3 racing and one that has illuded the team for some years now at the 24 hours. None of those really need any introduction from us!!
