Racing Spirit of Lemans step up to the Le Mans Cup with a Vantage GT3
News today from the ACO sanctioned Le Mans Cup Series has confirmed the return of an Aston Martin Racing powered team to the series, but this time with a change in actual team but with the return of a familiar face to guide it.
Not included within the entry this time around has seen the Spanish based Bullitt Racing team be replaced for the 2023 season by the French based Racing Spirit of Lemans team as they step up from GT4 to the GT3 class with an all-new driver line up that will include AMR factory driver Valentin Hasse-Clot amongst them.
Already scheduled to compete within the main European Le Mans Series with a TF Sport prepared AMR Vantage GTE, the young Frenchman will again take on double driving duties within the ELMS support series with a gentleman driver yet to be identified by either the team or the series as he did with Bullitt Racing last season with Stephen Pattrick.
Having tasted the Aston Martin last season within the GT4 European Series and FFSA GT4 Series, this announcement will be a significant step up the ladder for the team as the series embarks upon its six-round season, including its traditional double header round at Le Mans in June but all starting in Barcelona in mid-April with its Prologue and opening round a week later.

A major dilemma averted for Bullitt Racing ahead of their Asian Le Mans Series encounters
Despite having containerised their car and all their equipment in good time at the beginning on the month, an unwelcomed phone call from their local dock operator near Barcelona earlier confirmed that their precious cargo was in fact still sitting on the quayside, still in Spain and going nowhere quickly.
Fortunately for all concerned, team owner and team Principle Stephen and Steffan Pattrick (respectively) have had their #66 car and equipment flown out to the Dubai Autodrome at the great expense that that represents just so that drivers Valentin Hasse-Clot, Jacob Riegel and Martin Berry can fulfil their desires to compete within the ACO rules series that starts over the weekend of the 11/12th February in Dubai and the 18/19th February at the Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.
For the shipping agent concerned – well, we’d imagine that they’re still a little bit deafened from the team’s probably rather vocal reply to such a dilemma!!

Bullitt Racing confirm their trio of drivers for their forthcoming Asian Le Mans Series entry
Having joyously announced their entry acceptance within the ACO rules series just a few weeks ago, the Stephen Pattrick led team today went on to confirm a three-driver crew for the four hour – four quick succession round series that will again be split between the Dubai Autodrome circuit and the Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.
Joining their ‘resident’ AMR factory driver within the team that is Valentin Hasse-Clot came the confirmation that a diverse gold, silver and bronze line up of a teenaged German, Jacob Riegel would join the Frenchman alongside the Singapore based Australian bronze rated driver of Martin Berry.
With certainly Hasse-Clot and Riegel having tested together last time out in Portimao, the move will mark a continuation of a momentous rise for the young German after having only debuted himself in GT4 racing last year with the Team Speed Monkeys AMR team in the now defunct DTM Trophy Series.
Despite his grade, Berry will bring his own extent of racing experiences from both the German Prototype Cup, Super Taikyu Series and the former Blancpain GT Series.
Team Manager Steffan Pattrick added that “I’m proud to confirm that Bullitt Racing will race in the Asian Le Mans Series. We’re expecting some fantastic racing and to carry over our Michelin Le Mans Cup learnings. It’s fantastic to have Valentin back in our car. He’s always tremendously fast, experienced and is of course an Aston Martin Racing factory driver. With us last year, he secured podiums at the Road to Le Mans and Monza and was crucial to our success.
“Our Silver is Jacob and we have been working with him closely over the last few months; he’s developing quickly off the back of a strong season in ADAC. We believe he is ready to step up to GT3 competition and the Asian Le Mans Series and he brings a great deal of performance to the line-up.
“Martin is well known in the paddock and will be our bronze driver. He’s been racing a great deal in Asia in recent years with significant achievements. We’re delighted to be working with Martin and delighted that he has put his trust in Bullitt Racing and that he recognises our growth and results and that we are now a top team in GT3 with clear ambitions to achieve strong results.
“Our overall objective remains to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and this platform proves us with an opportunity to get there. So, we’re naturally very excited to be racing in the series and we’re also looking forward to our other race programmes in 2023.”
Having chatted with the team on-line after today’s announcement, the point was made that Stephen Pattrick may not be figuring in much of the teams indicated 2023 activities as was his plan but to remember the saying of “never say never!”
The ALMS series kicks off in Dubai over the weekend of the 11-12th February before the final two races at Yas Marina just the weekend later and compliments the slightly older TF Sport AMR crew already announced. That leaves just the crews of the Viper Niza and Eves Racing Aston Martin's to be confirmed.

Testing times ahead
Over in Portimao this week, you will find the Bullitt Racing AMR team continue with testing with their AMR Vantage GT3 ahead of a recently confirmed entry into the Asian Le Mans Series which starts in Dubai in February.
With no driver names stated within that confirmation, it may not be safe to suggest that team boss Stephen Pattrick will compete within that series but he has apparently retained the driver mentoring services and racing skills of factory driver Valentin Hasse-Clot after this pairing (along with the help from Theo Nouet along the way of course) came so close to challenging for the overall GT3 crown by the end of their Michelin Le Mans Cup Series endeavours this year. Their third ALMS driver has yet to be identified and there appears to be other drivers taking the opportunity to test with the team as well!
Then just across the border into Spain, has seen the GPA Racing team put one of their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s through its paces with perspective clients ahead of any potential return for them into their domestic FFSA GT4 or European GT4 Series next season.
Then sharing the Catalunya circuit with them and others this week will be the Aston Martin Racing team themselves, pounding the circuit with their factory drivers Marco Sorenson, Charlie Eastwood and Ross Gunn in what we believe to be developmental testing for their now aging Vantage GT3 platform ahead of that possibility of an ‘evo’ version.
This isn’t the first test of this nature that the squad have undertaken with the Beechdean AMR liveried car as a test bed as both Gunn and Maxime Martin undertook something similar at Motorland Aragon earlier last month before the Belgian parted company with the squad before his return to BMW.
Again, all at AMR have remained tight lipped about this evolutionary version of the trusted Vantage with testing being conducted on what we believe to be solely internal – non-visible components before moving onto anything else this is visible externally later on.
This will also be good seat time for many as both Gunn and Eastwood (at least) are due to compete at the start of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship and its Daytona 24 opener in January albeit in different team equipment to this week.
Looks like 2023 has already begun.

A mighty FIVE Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3s due at the Asian Le Mans Series in 2023 (Updated)
It has been another mighty few days for various Aston Martin Racing powered teams this week as entry confirmations have been landing in their in-boxes ahead of next year’s Asian Le Mans Series.
We have already warmly received the news that the D’Station Racing team from Japan will again be making that long trip to the Middle East for the quick fire, four round series together again with their long-standing friends at TF Sport.
That news was backed up yesterday with the news that the recently announced Viper Niza team from Malaysia will also be joining the fray with their new AMR Vantage GT3 and that that news again has been bolstered by the fact that both Bullitt Racing and a further TF Sport entry have been confirmed, bringing the GT3 class grid up to twenty-four cars with five of them being Aston Martin’s.
Although with all news obviously gratefully received, some of these announcements have still left the detail of driver crews blank with only TF Sport confirming the return of John Hartshorne, Henrique Chaves and Jonny Adam to the list to carry on from where they all left off within the Asian Le Mans Series and European Le Mans Series of this season gone.
The Spanish based Bullitt Racing team have released no names but it’s probably safe to consider that team boss Stephen Pattrick will be amongst them with Valentin Hasse-Clot posting a cheeky little post upon social media to say he may be saying something as well which may well not be too far off the mark either!
Likewise with the Viper Niza team, we expect team boss Douglas Khoo to be amongst their drivers again as that team complete their AMR transition next weekend at the final round of the Thailand Super Series from the Chang International Circuit alongside their AMR Vantage GT4 supported car. That leaves just the second TF Sport entered car with no names and whilst we could probably make some educated guesses – it is sometimes best simply to wait for the official team confirmation.
UPDATE - TF Sport have now confirmed that their second car relates to a partnership between them and the Asian based Evisu Racing team. Further details will be confirmed in due time.
The Asian Le Mans Series will again run a four-race format – two four-hour races at the Dubai Autodrome over the weekend of the 12th and 13th February before moving just across the border to the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi for rounds three and four over the weekend of the 18th and 19th February.
A complete entry list is expected closer to the start of the new season.

Sadly no Championship hopes for the three Aston Martin crews at LMC and ELMS finale from Portimao this weekend
In scarily quick succession to one another, this weekend sees a further two GT race series conclude as both the ACO rules Le Mans Cup and European Le Mans Series come to an end after their sixth and final round of the season at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal.
With the Bullitt Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 again being listed within the LMC entry as well as the two TF Sport prepared AMR Vantage GTE cars of the Oman Racing team within the ELMS grid, this weekend sees the unfortunate fact that none of these cars will be in championship contention for either series after their respective results at the last round of each Series at Spa Francorchamps saw them fall short of what was needed to continue that campaign.
For the #99 Bullitt Racing AMR of Stephen Pattrick and Valentin Hasse-Clot, their GT3 Drivers Championship possibilities ended in the barriers around a wet Spa track on the way to the grid as Pattrick (unseen by TV) spun and rear ended his car into the barrier, breaking its rear suspension even before the race had begun.
In a season fresh to the AMR Vantage and having co-shared with drivers Hasse-Clot and Theo Nouet throughout the year, the black and red car was in a good position to take the series to this final round in Portugal against the #55 GMB Motorsport Honda NSX of Kasper Jenson and former WEC AMR GTE Am Champion Kristian Poulson, but the incident in Belgium has already handed that accolade to the Danish pairing.
None the less, the Spanish based team will still be looking to finish this AMR debut season for them on something of a high as winter events in the Middle East have already been hinted at by the team and all seat time is good time for their gentleman driver owner Pattrick.
Then there are the two AMR Vantage GTE crews of Ahmad Al Harthy, Sam De Haan and Marco Sorenson with John Hartshorne, Henrique Chaves and Jonny Adam aboard their #69 and #95 Oman Racing cars that compete within the ELMS series.
In the topsy-turvy world of Balance of Performance based multi-class racing, the 2022 season has certainly been a cruel one for the Tom Ferrier lead team as the #69 car was effectively taken out of the opening round at Paul Ricard by an errant LMP3 car, before coming back with a convincing lights to flag win next time out at Imola before being BoP’d right out of the next round at Monza before showing signs of recovery in time for Barcelona (but couldn’t replicate that during the race) before coming back with the best performance they could at Spa albeit it too little too late for the Championship.
It has been a similar tale for their #95 Hartshorne lead car who has scored points at all rounds except for the BoP debacle at Monza to show massive improvement on his part (with the help of both Chaves and Adam of course) as they have already surpassed the total score of his 2021 campaign in the series.
Presently, the #69 crew sit in P6 on 41 points whilst the #95 crew sit in P11 with 36 points against the championship leaders 72 points.
The GTE Drivers Championship has yet to be confirmed but is just a three-car shootout between the #77 Proton Competition Porsche, #57 Kessel Racing Ferrari and #60 Iron Lynx Ferrari.

Disaster at Spa ends the hopes of Bullitt Racing in the Le Mans Cup Series
Arriving in Belgium earlier this week placed second in the GT3 drivers’ championship, the #99 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 of Stephen Pattrick and Valentin Hasse-Clot was looking ‘steady’ during the earlier test day and into yesterday’s Free Practice.
Having ended private testing at the head of the class in both sessions, only some unwanted close attention and damage caused from an LMP3 car blotted their copy book into the first Free Practice and Bronze Driver Test before the #99 car came back strong with another first in Free Practice 2.
Then as the weather deteriorated again just ahead of Qualifying, Pattrick would deliver a timely lap around the greasy track that would have allowed him to start from the second row of the GT3 grid.
Then as the weather deteriorated again just ahead of Qualifying, Pattrick would deliver a timely lap around the greasy track that would have allowed him to start from the second row of the GT3 grid.
However, an unseen incident for the #99 on the way around to the grid unfortunately resulted in the car being backed into the barrier to lose its rear wing (with probably more damage underneath than that too) to sadly end its Spa adventure and championship chase on the back of a low loader.
With the #99 never getting back into the race and with the three GMB Motorsport Honda’s locking out the GT3 podium come the end of today’s round, that effectively ends Bullitt Racings GT3 chances at the final round of the season at Portimao later next month.

All to play for in the GT3 Class as Bullitt Racing heads to Spa Francorchamps in the Le Mans Cup
This weekend’s event will be the first for the series outside of France and Italy after previous rounds at Le Castellet, Imola, Le Mans and most recently for them at Monza right back at the start of July where the #99 Bullitt car of Stephen Pattrick and Valentin Hasse-Clot secured another P3 podium finish after a post-race disqualification for another competitor moved the black and red liveried AMR Vantage GT3 crew up from their fourth-place finish on track.
With their own series due to finish in Portimao next month as well as the ELMS, the #99 crew presently sits in third within the GT3 Drivers Champiosnhip for Pattrick (with Hasse-Clot having co shared the driving duties so far with Theo Nouet) but just seventeen points behind the leading crew that includes former AMR WEC GTE Am Champion Kristian Poulson.
Two races remain together with twenty-five points for the class win and another point for class pole position per race up for grabs so still a championship very much in contention for the English gentleman driver Pattrick with both Hasse-Clot (and latterly Nouet at Portimao) helping to ensure that the #99 comes home as high as possible by the end in their AMR debut year.
“I can’t wait to get back with the team after the long summer break. Monza was bittersweet as we loved the venue, but we had a tough race. This gives us even more motivation for Spa. We must finish ahead of our main competitor to keep our title chances alive. This leaves room for only one strategy and Spa will be a turning point in our championship fight!” said the Frenchman.
Track action also starts for this mixed LMP3 / GTE class grid on Friday with Free Practice, ahead of Qualifying and race on Saturday.

A fortunate third for Bullitt Racing at Monza
Given our track record, a non-perfect day is permitted, and we leave Monza somewhat relieved with our third position finish, a result that moves us second in the championship race with 60 points, 17 adrift of our title rival at GMB Motorsport with two rounds remaining.
The event started with testing on Thursday, which was a good opportunity for Stephen Pattrick and Valentin Hasse-Clot to get acclimatised to both the heat of Monza and the circuit itself. Having set the pace in the first test session and then had little running in the second courtesy of red flags, the event proper kicked off with Friday’s official running ahead of Saturday’s qualifying run.
Unfortunately, the push session did not go quite to plan, with Stephen a little off his very best from practice, but fourth position was a decent place to start and the Spanish-based squad were still confident heading into the 110-minute race.
It was a great start to the race too with Stephen and our friends in the #55 Honda vaulting one-two on track and pulling out from those behind. Sadly, it wasn’t to be as Stephen spun on lap eight at Variante della Roggia, damaging the diffuser on the #99 Aston Martin Vantage in the process. He was able to continue, regaining fourth position before spinning into the gravel at Lesmo.
Following a metaphorical CTRL-ALT-DELETE he was soon back underway, but almost a lap down on the field. Valentin jumped aboard the Aston for his stint with little to lose and was – as expected – blisteringly fast, recording the fastest lap of the race on lap 30.
With others finding trouble on track and off, Valentin took the chequered flag in fourth position, but just as we were all wondering where it had unravelled, the podium beckoned with a penalty for a rival. It may have been lucky, but we were there to take the position and with it, the 15 points.
“The first 20 minutes were good, from fourth to second in the race and then we had a full course yellow. I got pushed out by an LMP3 and frankly, I just didn’t manage the car and the situation as well as I should have done. I then had a spin, recovered, pulled back and retook fourth position and then spun again, this time into the gravel which threw us out by a lap. I got back into the car and there were a number of incidents in this race and we managed to get third place which we are very very happy about. We move on and look forward to Spa” said Pattrick after the race.
There’s now a long break in the calendar now until late September when the team return to the Le Mans Cup at Spa-Francorchamps seeking that elusive first victory!

Time for Bullitt Racing to step up a gear at the Temple of Speed this weekend
First time out at Le Castellet and then at Imola, the #99 Bullitt Racing team competed with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 for the first time with drivers Stephen Pattrick and Theo Nouet nearly pulling off the dream start in France, just missing out on a class podium finish by the smallest of margins despite the most difficult of starts before completing that job next time in Italy with a class P2 finish there.
Then the series moved back to France for the Series annual visit to the Circuit de La Sarthe for their two ‘Road to Le Mans’ races which this time featured a driver line up of Pattrick and Valentin Hasse-Clot.
There, the car proved to be super quick with Hasse-Clot claiming class pole position for the Thursday evening 110minute race, but for some unfortunate shenanigans on the opening lap (breaking out the Safety Car) and then a pit lane speed violation at the halfway mark (with the resulting drive through penalty), that saw the Pattrick/Hasse-Clot combo take a lowly class finish in seventh for their troubles.
The Saturday race however proved to be more successful after another Safety Car affected race saw Pattrick complete an error free stint before handing the car back to the young Frenchman to see out their Le Mans adventure. After a further Safety Car intervention towards the end, Hasse-Clot needed just the last lap of the 8.5-mile circuit to claim his first podium of the Le Mans Cup Series and Pattrick’s second with their third-place finish in the GT3 class.
These sequence of results leaves the #99 car third in both the Team’s and Driver’s Championship tables (for Pattrick), just fourteen points behind the leaders going into the round at Monza.
Thirty-seven cars compete again this weekend including the seven cars that make up the GT3 class. Nothing yet has been said about any Balance of Performance changes going into this round after the Aston Martin lost turbo boost across its range going into Le Mans but that will continue until further notice by the sanctioning body.

Road to Le Mans - Bullitt Racing Le Mans Cup Gallery
Two incident packed rounds of the Le Mans Cup at their annual Road to Le Mans visit to the Circuit de La Sarthe last week saw the Spanish based Bullitt Racing take a deserved podium finish by the end of Saturday’s second race.
Having already qualified at the from the GT3 grid for Thursday’s first race, an over eager pack around Stephen Pattrick saw the Englishman quickly muscled from his prime position only for the race to be partially nullified as multiple cars needed recovering after contact on the opening laps.
That and a further transgression of their own at the time of their pitstop saw the #99 car eventually being brought home by Valentin Hasse-Clot a disappointing P7 in class by the time the necessary drive through penalty had been served.
Just ahead of the start of the 24-Hour WEC race, the distinctly black and red liveried car started from P8 on the GT3 grid of Saturdays second race before Pattrick was able to progress up to P5 in class before handing over (cleanly this time) to the young Frenchman.
With a Safety Car again affecting the flow of the race, Hasse-Clot had just two laps to progress any further up the GT3 class and that he did, claiming a class P3 finish on the final lap to continue the team’s podium visiting trend after their podium finish at Imola last time out with Pattrick and Theo Nouet.
The #99 car now lies in third within the GT3 table as the series visits Monza in just two week’s time.
