Mathol Racing wins again in GT4

Monday, August 01, 2011

The sixth running of the VLN was once again a challenge, which required skill from the divers and entire crew. With two crashes and difficulty track conditions, particularly in practice, it was necessary to cope and to act accordingly

The weather in the Eifel region seemed not to want to stick to the calendar. Wet and cold the participants and fans of the long distance felt the championship put back in the autumn, especially when rain caused a difficult time in practice. But none of this stopped Mathol racing claiming pole position in SP10.

From the start, the trio pushed hard to build a comfortable lead over the second placed car. Actually, it could have been a very relaxed race, but other protagonists ensured plenty of chaos. After about a half hour, the race director waved the red flag for the first time. At Tiergarten another Aston Martin and BMW had a violent high-speed accident. Fortunately, the drivers were not seriously injured, so the race could continue after the salvage operations. The second stint lasted only an hour before the race organizers stopped the race again. This time the track was completely blocked by a major accident. For the Aston Martin Racing Mathol this meant the premature class win.

Mathol Racing now takes a four week break. Then it goes into the VLN Endurance Championship for the second 6-hour race of the year. On 27 August, the VLN meets again to their seventh run.
