Ramping up for Round 2 at Spa

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

With just a couple of days left before the first Free Practice session on Thursday, the 6Hours of Spa-Francorchamps represents not only a race in its own right but also as the final opportunity for the teams to finalise upgrades, plans and strategies before the 'big one' at Le Mans in just over a months time.

Having had impressive single lap pace by claiming the top three GTE Pro grid places at Silverstone earlier this month Aston Martin Racing will be looking to capitalise on some of that outright speed into an improved prolonged race pace as this was where all the Pro cars lost time to the chasing pack after the first round of stops.

With the exception of the #95 Young Driver car the other four GTE cars return unchanged except for the liveries.

We understand that the #97 Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke car returns to its more familiar Gulf livery whilst the #99 Fernando Rees/Alex MacDowall/Richie Stanaway car swaps from the beautiful flat blue Velero branding to the bright red and yellow Hanergy branding that previously adorned the #97 at Silverstone. Also at Spa will see Rob Bell joining the #97 line up in preparation for Le Mans.

With Nikki Thiim missing the Spa 6Hrs due to his Porsche commitments in Germany Aston Martin Racing are hoping to announce that Beechdean and AMR factory driver Jonny Adam will share the #95 GTE Pro car with Christoffer Nygaard and Marco Sorensen during the Free Practice sessions only.

Over in the GTE AM category the #98 Paul Dalla Lana/Predo Lamy/Mathias Lauda car will be looking to extend their championship standing following their hard fought class victory at Silverstone. Likewise with the #96 Roald Goethe/Stuart Hall/Francesco Castellacci car, they will be hoping to learn from mistakes made last time out and make up time that will earn them a podium position this time around.

As with many events held at the Spa Francorchamps circuit it should be noted that the race is on the Saturday (not the Sunday) with Free Practice and Qualifying held over the Thursday and Friday as shown below (local times)
