Latest team on the block for British GT

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Looks like the latest prospective entry into the 2016 British GT Championship had all but passed us by until we laid eyes on a small retweeted message this evening from Speedcafe.com.

MacMillan Racing LLP appears to have acquired one of the first 2016 V8 Vantage GT4 Vantage's from the Prodrive factory to enter into the British GT with the former Indycar driver Dillon Battistini in the frame as the team's new car 'tester' at least.

After a little digging on line it appears that the David MacMillan team is supported by Richard Dencer, a track events organiser and Battistini's manager amongst other things and commercial partner Simon Sanderson, previously an Aston Martin Racing sponsorship manager and Haymarket Publishing Director.

Battistini himself appears to be a bit of a sportscar rookie having only tested the Dyson Racing LMP1 and Murphy LPM2 cars since the end of his Indycar career in 2011.

The ethos of the team appears to one that creates a ladder for both talented engineers and drivers alike via the Aston Martin Racing brand apparently with a strong association with TF Sport

TF Sport did run their old GT4 in GT Cup last year with flooring company director Martin Johnson but it is not yet known whether this new team is in addition to or a replacement of that previous arrangement.

Battistini has certainly been clocking up the test mileage in the new car ever since the end of the domestic 2015 season with the assistance of the AMR factory and Evolution Academy winner Ross Gunn (but back then he was just a GT4 Champion).

Hopefully we will be able to bring you more detail as and when information becomes available - the team bosses were at the Autosport Show last weekend trying to recruit suitable candidates for their project.
