Wylie and Dryburgh join Motorbase GT3 British GT Campaign

Scottish duo Ross Wylie and Phil Dryburgh will spearhead Motorbase Performance’s challenge on the British GT Championship title for the 2016 season.

Piloting the Kent-based squad’s #8 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, Wylie and Dryburgh are no strangers to the British GT squad, with the former taking GT4 Champion honours back in 2014. Dryburgh returns to the Motorbase line-up after a one-off appearance with the team during last season’s Oulton Park season opener.

Motorbase Performance Team Principal David Bartrum said; “I’m very excited about our 2016 driver line-up in British GT. Phil Dryburgh is someone that we’ve known for a very long time; his association with Motorbase goes all the way back to when Jonny Adam first raced with us.

“Ross is a fantastic young talent who is just starting out on his journey and has all the potential to be the next Scottish star and that’s the aim of the team this year, to help him achieve that.”


24-year-old Wylie commented; “I won the GT4 Championship in an Aston back in 2014 and I’ve known Phil for a long time so to be able to join him in a Pro-Am line up this year is very exciting for me. Motorbase has a great heritage in British GT and it’s a great opportunity to come and race with them. British GT seems to be getting tougher and tougher each year. It’s the place to be at the moment for an aspiring young driver and I’m really looking forward to season ahead.”

Fife-based Drybugh added; “Ross and I have always talked about racing but never really about racing together before this year so knowing the team as well as I do, it made perfect sense to come to Motorbase. It’s entirely important to me that I enjoy my racing as well as having a fantastic car and I know that’s what David and the team will deliver.”

Since winning the Championship title back in 2012, Motorbase Performance has been in title contention in each successive season. Entering its third year with the Aston Martin Vantage, Team Boss David Bartrum is hopeful that experience and consistency will prove to be a winning combination for the squad’s new driver pairing.

“In our first year with the Aston we missed out on the Championship title by just 20 minutes in the final round, and again last year as much as we were outside contenders we were still right in the fight for the title up until Liam crashed out in the last round;” added Bartrum. “Every year since we’ve had the Aston we’ve been in the fight for the Championship and it feels like we have unfinished business. If we can get ourselves into that position again this year it will be a great achievement.

“The grid is full of fantastic competition this year and we’re very much looking forward to going racing but we’re not here just to make up the numbers. I genuinely feel that we have a driver pairing that can take us all the way again in 2016.”

Motorbase Performance’s pre-season testing programme gets underway later this week with the GT and BTCC squad’s heading to Portimao, Portugal with further UK testing dates planned ahead of the official British GT Championship media day at Snetterton on March 15.
