British GT kicks off at Oulton Park under a cloud
Saturday, April 15, 2017
Adding to the work load being placed upon Aston Martin Racing and its Partner Teams is also the fact that the opening round of the 2017 British GT Championship is also underway at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
With five AMR cars entered - two GT3's from TF Sport, one GT3 and one GT4 from MacMillan Racing as well as a single GT4 from Academy Motorsport, todays Qualifying was delayed as a result of what sounds to be a nasty incident involving two Ginetta GT4 cars that required both drivers to be transferred to the local hospital for treatment.
It was somewhat of a relief to later read that both Steve Fresle and Mike Newbould were later discharged from hospital after what was obviously a very sizeable accident.
Qualifying was eventually concluded today with the best AMR runner being the new #24 MacMillan Racing GT3 entry of Jack Mitchell who will start from P3 for the first race on Monday.
With Jonny Adam on factory duty at the WEC at Silverstone this weekend, it was predetermined that he would not make the effort in transferring between venues and rather let the #1 TF Sport GT3 car start from the back of the class. We were not however expected co driver Derek Johnston to sit out his Am driver qualifying as well.
In two AMR GT4 entries will start R1 in 3rd and 4th for Academy and MacMillan crew whilst R2 they will start 10th and 8th respectively.
