Last minute disappointment for TRG at Lime Rock

Sunday, July 23, 2017

Running their Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GTD for the first time this season in the Weathertech Sportscar Championship, the #007 California based The Racer Group entry of Brandon Davis and James Davison would ultimately fall short of what would otherwise have been a magnificent result.

With the duo already having raced with the team and the GTD car before, this one off entry into the 'North East Grand Prix' around the short 1.5mile track was obviously a last minute affair with drivers completing a necessary seat fitting exercise at the track.

The lack of running was obviously of no consequence however to the team with them placing the car P10 on the grid for the 2Hr 40min race on Saturday - just 0.6 seconds off the class pole time!

During the race, the opening stint from Davis was quite but purposeful as he soon elevated himself through the competitive GTD field to hand the car over to Davison in P4. During the final pitt stop cycle the #007 did actually lead its class before dropping back to about 15 seconds off the class podium battle.

Disappointment was to come to the team however, as with just five minutes remaining the #007 came to an abrupt halt on the outfield whilst maintaining its very comfortable P4. Without yet any explanation from the team it wouldn't be surprising to hear that the car ran out of fuel.

We now need to wait to see if The Racer Group will be entering any further rounds of the IMSA Weathertech series within the GTD class.
