Gunn makes a clean sweep of it in middle China

Thursday, October 05, 2017

Following on from yesterday's dominant win in the first race of the penultimate round of the China GT Series from the Chengdu Circuit in central China, Beechdean AMR's driver Ross Gunn and team mate Yang Mengquai went another step further last night to dominate race 2 and secured the clean sweep of the GT4 podia.

Having already qualified their #618 China Equity AMR Vantage GT4 on pole for both races it was Mengquai who again made the quickest exit from the rolling start to establish a dominate lead whilst the cars behind squabbled between them.

For the #77 China Equity car that meant a quick journey through the gravel but for the #721 ZIA FEA car, their race was to end in the gravel after becoming beached  - that caused a Safety Car.

For Gunn however, it was simply plain sailing taking the chequered flag by 50 seconds.

This result leaves Mengquai laying third in the GT4 Championship although the crew of the #570 McLaren 570S have already been declared as Champions. Astonishingly, Gunn finds himself in P6 having only raced in four races!!

With one round of the 2017 season still to come from Zhejiang International Circuit, south of Shanghai in just two weeks time we will have to wait and see if Gunn gets another chance to go back as that event is just a week before the finale of the European Le Mans Series from Portimao.
