An AMR team in British GT the place to be at in 2019 as more signings announced

Strong historical performances, brand new racing machinery and the allure of an Academy place with the Aston Martin Racing factory team is proving to be strong inducements for young drivers looking to move up the GT racing ladder with more driver line ups announced today.

Taking a progressive step up from Ginetta GT5 Challenge to British GT GT4 is 18 year old Irishman Connor O'Brien who has today announced that he will carrying on his racing career under the guiding wing of Optimum Motorsport as he swaps from the teams Ginetta's for one of the teams brand new turbo charged V8 Vantage GT4.

Finishing sixth in the 2018 Ginetta GT5 Challenge Championship just behind Alex Toth-Jones, who recently announced his progression to British GT with a TF Sport prepared AMR Vantage GT4, we understand from the team (back at the British GT finale at Donington is September) that Connor was originally intended to be joined by another family member - that has obviously now dropped through with Connor and the team now looking for a suitable co driver for him.

“I’m looking forward to starting our testing programme next year and getting to work with the Aston Martin,” Connor said. “It’s also great to continue with Optimum Motorsport and I’m looking forward to working with my new teammate, even though I don’t know who that is yet!

“The AMR Young Driver Academy is obviously very interesting to me, but I also know that the early part of the season at least will be something of a learning curve. I hope to be at the sharp end as soon as possible, getting solid finishes and making progress race by race.”
