Monday, May 20, 2019

Fresh from a challenging yet productive weekend at the second round of the British GT Championship where the team extended their GT3 Silver Cup Championship lead, Wakefield based Optimum Motorsport have today confirmed a driver change for their parallel 2019 racing commitments within the International GT Open Series.

Having only contested the opening two races of the first round to from the Paul Ricard, France in late April, drivers of their #96 Aston martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 Ollie Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis secured a worthy second placed position within their Pro Am class in race 2 to hold a  P2 position in the overall Pro-Am Championship table.

Todays announcements sees AMR factory driver Darren Turner extend his already established driver coaching role with the up and coming Wilkinson to that of co-driver for selected races within the remaining GT Open season starting with this weekends second round from Hockenheim, Germany.

Team boss Shaun Goff added "We are really looking forward to getting on track at Hockenheim as our pace at Paul Ricard was so strong in the new Aston Martin Vantage. We came close to winning the second race, but it was still a fantastic result.

“Ollie is in just his third season of competition and to have a direct comparison with Darren in the car will be invaluable going forward. Bradley is an integral part of the team and continues to be very much be involved with Ollie’s career, both in his mentoring role and competing in the British GT Championship.”

Turner last competed in the GT Open series back in 2014 when he and co-driver Jody Fannin won a race at Silverstone in a TF Sport prepared V12 Vantage GT3.
