SRO's light at the end of the tunnel (UPDATED)

Thursday, May 14, 2020

Approaching what should have been round three of the Championship from Snetterton this weekend, we have received the great news from the guys from the SRO and the British GT Championship today confirming their massively revised 2020 programme that will hopefully more the national GT Championship forward again after the Corona-virus lockdown.

Although ambitious in delivery, it's great to see a Championship be prepared to publish a revised calendar at this stage of the lifting of social restrictions that misses only one of their originally intended destinations.

With testing being made available in certain countries around Europe, hopefully it will not be too far away before the likes of TF Sport, Oman Racing and Beechdean AMR hit the tracks of Old Blighty again in time for the early August opener at Oulton Park - what could be nicer!!

Update

That optimism yesterday from the SRO's British GT Championship contingent extended into further confirmations this week from the SRO's other significant European race series with the GT World Challenge Europe, GT4 European Series and the FFSA GT Series all confirming a heavily revised timetable into what is becoming a tight period of time within Europe to get a 'heck of a lot' of GT racing in before Mother Nature dictates otherwise.

Following their tradition, the smaller cars of the GT4 European Series will follow the larger GT3 race cars of the GT World Challenge Series around Europe in an event supporting role again whilst the French national GT4 race series go their own way again with a now a slightly reduced calendar of just five rounds.

Unlike both the British GT and the GT World Challenge Europe Series where we already know of the identity of the expected Aston Martin Racing teams competing within those series, both the GT4 European Series and FFSA GT4 have yet to declare their respective full season entries. whilst we understand that there have been a few 'casulaties' along the way with a few crews dropping out, we understand that there have also been a few new recruits as well and we have been told that the new V8 Vantage GT4 is expected to be 'well supported' within each series!

As with the notes above, these revised dates are heavily dependant upon local and national statutory bodies of the host nation allowing each event to progress and for European (and indeed world wide) cross border travel to be allowed without a self isolation consequence both when entering the new host nation and when returning home for many individuals now connected with European GT racing.

Like we said before - fingers crossed!!
