Team Virage back with a two car AMR entry in GT Cup Open

Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Just a quick shout out to applaud Spanish based Team Virage for beating the distinct summer downturn in European customer GT racing and getting to track a surprising pair of Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4's for the opening round of the GT Cup Open Series from the Hungaroring last weekend.

Having originally announced back in February a driver pairing who wanted to compete within the Pro-Am GT4 Series having dipped their toes into the series at the latter end of last season, nothing more was heard from the team until mid July when the series indicated one - possibly two AMR GT4 entries from the team for Hungary's opener.

A second car was then kind of confirmed as Aston Martin Racing included and announced Hungarian driver Robert Hefler amongst their chosen list of AMR Drivers Academy participants at the end of July. His name was in addition to the Stephane Adler and Michael Blanchemain names confirmed by the series in their release.

None the less, as once having their second available AMR Vantage GT4 up for sale earlier this year they at least have this two car programme to hopefully see them through the remainder of 2020 as the Series moves from Hungary to the south of France the their next round from where we should see a third Aston Martin in attendance!

Despite an obvious lack of pre-season seat time for either crews, the Pro-Am entry of Hefler and Philippe Valenza at least came away from the weekend with a class P3 finish in Sundays race having had a DNF in the opening race. For the Am pairing of Adler/Blanchemain, they had two eventful rounds to score points in each race to sit just above their team mates in the Championship table.

And the cars look great too!
