Heartache for Team Virage in their GT4 at Ultimate Cup Series finale

Monday, December 07, 2020

Despite having ran only in the opening round of the 2020 Ultimate Cup Series and maintained a joint Championship lead in their class after their win at Dijon in September with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4, their luck finally ran out for Team Virage at the season’s finale from Paul Ricard at the weekend.

Qualifying for Sunday’s four-hour race in tenth place meant was to prove itself as a short-lived success for the team as Championship hopeful Stephane Adler got tagged into a spin in the opening laps to Sundays Endurance race, colliding heavily with the outside tyre wall.

Fortunate enough to be able to make it back to the pit lane, the damage proved itself to be too much for the team to repair in any timely manner meaning that the #55 car would not complete the required 75% race distance to be classified.

The race start was also marred by a heavy collision with the Armco for Nicolas Gomar after his Alpine was speared into the barrier but another car on the opening lap. Clearly winded, Gomar (of AGS Events Racing fame) was at least able to remove himself from his car before being taken to the circuit medical centre for checks.

The team at least went on to win the LMP4 class in the Series.
