Misfortune blights Qualifying chances but #TeamAMR comes to the rescue at Daytona

It was a rough start to the Michelin Pilot Challenge 2021 season proper for the Volt Racing with Archangel Aston Martin Racing team today as technical issues within the #07 car forced them to miss Qualifying for tomorrows four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge opener.

Having again posted lap times towards the top of the GS leader board in today’s earlier Free Practice sessions, an overheating issue identified within the car's V8 engine was such as they couldn’t set any laps during Qualifying and had to see the assistance of the other AMR teams in the paddock. Fortunately for them, the debuting Notlad Racing with Rennsport 1 team had brought both of their AMR Vantage GT4 cars with them to Daytona and have kindly loaned their spare platform to the Volt Racing guys so that Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman can field a competitive car in tomorrow race.

For the other two AMR’s amongst the twenty-five GS cars featuring on this weekend’s entry list, it was the #09 Stoner Car Care with Automatic Racing car that lead the way for the British marque in Qualifying entering a best time of 1:56:541 from driver Rob Ecklin whilst the debuting #23 car of Matt Dalton from the Notlad Racing team entered a best lap time of 1:58:011 in only his third track session of the year at the Daytona International Speedway after having missed the Roar before the 24 test weekend.

Those times left the #09 starting P17 and the #23 car in P21 for tomorrows race. The #07 car (if completed in time) will start from the rear of the GS grid but with four hours of racing around the banked oval and infield circuit – anything can happen (and usually does)!

The Volt Racing with Archangel Team would like to extend their gratitude to their stablemate Notlad Racing with Rennsport 1’s generosity in their assistance with their spare AMR chassis.
