Double Class podium for Dorr Motorsport AMR in ADAC GT4 Germany's visit to Austria

After the ups and downs of the opening round at Oschersleben a month ago, the Dorr Motorsport team were back in action at the weekend with the second round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series from the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

With the team again running their three cars, one of which is of course the #69 Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 for drivers Phil Dorr and Andreas Worth, hopes on the Aston side of the garage was of a more consistent approach rather than their hero to zero approach in the opening two races.

Racing in the Junior class, it was Dorr who Qualified the car for Saturday’s first hour long race in P16 before a heavy accident on the opening lap for a lower placed Porsche brought out the red flags for barrier repairs at the top of the circuit. After a twenty-five minute delay before the Safety Car restart, Dorr was soon up to P9 overall by the time of their mandatory stop.

Soon after climbing into the green liveried Aston, an issue for one of the team’s McLaren 570S’s brought out another Safety Car period leaving Wirth and the pack with a twelve-minute dash to the flag. Surviving persistent challenges from the rear and a third Safety Car for a car in a gravel trap, Wirth eventually finished Race 1 in P6 overall and P3 in the Junior Class.

Race 2 and the roles were reversed with Wirth placing the #69 car P9 for the Sunday afternoon race. Like Dorr on Saturday, he would lose a couple of places at the start but would quickly make those back up before Race 2 was interrupted by another red flag for a heavy impact with the barrier for another Porsche coming out of T1 after only ten minutes.

Another half an hour lost on the race programme whilst more repairs were undertaken saw Wirth move up to P7 after the Safety Car restart and his pits stop window before another issue with the team’s other McLaren 570S brought out a further Safety Car with again, only twelve minutes remaining.

With just three minutes left on the clock as the race went back to green, Dorr finished off a great comeback to the events of Oschersleben with another P6 overall finish – again P3 in the Junior class.

Next stop for the Series is at Zandvoort in a month’s time.
