Only one Aston Martin for the D'Station Racing team at Super Taikyu opener from Suzuka

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Next weekend proves itself to be an extremely busy weekend of global GT racing with attention not just restricted to the Sebring International Raceway for the IMSA and World Endurance Championship double header weekend (and its supporting series) but also for the opening rounds of the GT World Challenge Australia and Super Taikyu Series over in Australian and Japan respectively.

In Japan, the Super Taikyu Series have their opening round of the season this weekend with a visit to Suzuka for a five-hour opener.

Having this domestic series event clash with their larger WEC racing obligations in Sebring sadly sees the D'Station Racing Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 crew of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and Tsubasa Kondo miss the opening round but we will see for the first time D’Station Racing’s brand-new AMR Vantage GT8R crew where drivers Tatsuma Hoshino, Max Orido and Kenji Hama will give their new car its racing debut in Japan.

The entry list presently shows a fifty car – multiple class entry again with six cars competing in the top ST-X class (where the #777 D’Station Racing AMR GT3) would have been racing in had they had been there and three cars within the #47’s new class for its new GT8R.

Being a modified GT4, the team can no longer compete within its more traditional ST-X Class.

However in the Australian GT, it is something of a disappointment as none of the listed twenty two entries feature an Aston Martin with the #38 Trading Garage/Micheal Bailey team again reverting back to their Bentley Continental GT3 over that of their V12 AMR Vantage GT3 for the season and with #7 turbo charged Vantage GT3 of Tony Quinn also not listed and apparently up for sale!

So unless something changes, we will not be seeing or hearing an Aston Martin compete around the track at Bathurst this year!
