Volt Racing - IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Champions

Having missed out on the Championship win last season by just three hundred and forty points, the #7 Volt Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crew of Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman finally came through the final race of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series last night to claim their ultimate prize.

After another brutal but thoroughly entertaining ten round season, this weekend’s visit to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta saw the brightly liveried #7 car do what it effectively needed to do to preserve their now reduced lead from the #56 Murillo Racing Mercedes AMG GT4 of Eric Foss to claim the title.

Not the most exciting of a race for them we have to say after Brynjolfsson had earlier claimed a second row start in P3 before seeing out his forty-minute minimum driver time stint in eighth position before handing the car over to Hindman to take it to the end.

In a season that has seen the IMSA compete at the best of racetracks that the USA and Canada can offer, only the near total disaster round at VIR saw the crew blot their copy book of race results after an issue on track and four laps lost cast them down to a P18 finish after a steady stream of podium finishes and race win took the car to the top of the table within the second half of the season.

Beyond any ‘frontmen’ who’s performances are visible to all there is of course a huge team behind them and this year that accolade goes to the Wright Motorsport team who gave the crew a reliable set of wheels whilst Hindman gave Brynjolfsson the encouragement and guidance to race his race game that little bit extra to succeed in what has been recorded as only his sixth year of competitive racing.

Having claimed the Michelin Pilot Challenge’s top prize, the businessman left little time to confirm his immediate desire to move up to the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship within their available GTD class – question is though, is in what car?? Lets hope that AMR's North America agents CSJ Motorsport can cut them a deal on a new Vantage GTD!!

Congratulations to all involved.
