Blackthorn AMR return to British GT with the first of a two car entry in 2024

Tuesday, March 05, 2024

Just one week away from its Media Day at Donington Park we see the first of two Blackthorn Motorsport announcements concerning their new two car entry into this season’s British GT Championship featuring a diverse, but talented driver pairings.

Today’s news features upon the team’s #10 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 line up that former British GT GT4 Pro-Am Champion Matt Topham will share alongside a young former Ginetta Junior Champion in Josh Rowledge within the Series Silver-Am class.

Having successfully defended his own GT4 Pro-Am title with Darren Turner and Newbridge Motorsport in 2022, Topham took almost the whole of last season off for the exception of a couple of guesting appearances last season with Enduro Motorsport in both their McLaren 720S and his own 16A AMR Vantage GT3.

This year, he steps up for a full season within the topflight GT3 class alongside a young Rowledge who impressed many in his debut year last season alongside Aston Miller in their DTO McLaren.

“After gaining experience in a multitude of GT3 cars over the past year I am super excited to be back for a full British GT Championship assault with Blackthorn and their new Aston Martin,” said Topham. “And Josh was the obvious partner; after working together in McLaren Trophy at Spa it was clear to me that we work well as a partnership.

“With the speed and consistency, he has shown throughout his 2023 British GT campaign I believe we have a good foundation to build on for this season and I can't wait to get going and bring Skully back to the front grid.”

Having last seen the Blackthorn Team in British GT at the Silverstone 500 last season with the now older 16A version, the team return stronger this season with a two-car entry within both the British GT and Le Mans Cup Series with the new 2024 version.

We will, however, have to wait until tomorrow for confirmation of the team’s second Vantage GT3.
