Tough return for D'Station Racing in Super GT opener from Okayama

Sunday, April 14, 2024

It wasn’t to be any triumphant return to the Japanese Super GT Series for the Fuji based D’Station Racing team as early difficulties placed them at the back of the grid for today’s opener before late tyre issues dropped them back still stiff further.

After recent official tests, the series opened their 2024 account at the Okayama circuit again with the #777 D’Station Racing Aston Martin racing Vantage GT3 of Tomonobu Fujii and Marco Sorensen being the sole AMR representative within their twenty-six strong GT300 Class.

Early running in Free Practice saw the crew clock in a best lap time worthy of thirteenth within their class (just 1.1 seconds off the ultimate pace at that stage) but engine issues forced the team to change the engine – missing the later Qualifying session later in the day.

Starting from last on the grid, the #777 did manage to elevate themselves up to P16 by the time that Fujii had completed his opening stint but a tyre issue for the Danish AMR factory driver dropped them back down to nineteenth by the end of the seventy-seven-lap race.

Next race will be at the teams home circuit of Fuji Speedway in early May.
