Frustration for Team NZ in Sepang at the weekend

Sunday, August 10, 2025

A ‘challenging return’ to the Thailand Super Series was the verdict of the team after another couple of fraught races within that series with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 and drivers Grahame Dowsett and Romain Leroux at the weekend.

Competing at a much-reduced race programme at the Sepang International, the GT3/GTM and GT4 only grid were again going to race two, one-hour long races over the course of Saturday and Sunday with Dowsett running the first qualifying session and opening stint within race one with rolls reversed with Leroux in race 2.

Starting P20 overall within the total entry twenty-three cars, Dowsett would struggle within their #7 car as that car itself struggled in the hot and humid conditions before contact with another car in the latter stages to that race really forced Leroux to fight through until the end, rewarded with a disappointing P6 finish within the GT4 Pro-Am class.

Race two would come much the same for a car/tyre combination struggling for performance before rain threw an extra mix into the equation around the time of the pits top window. Unfortunately, it was Dowsett who had to deal with that sudden change in conditions, but he would eventually spin out and become beached within a gravel effectively ending their race weekend with a DNF.

The series will return to Sepang for its penultimate round to the season later in late September before rounding the year off at the Chang International in late October.
