Both Astons at the front in class ahead of tomorrows Le Mans Cup finale from Portimao

Everything has shaped up rather nicely ahead of tomorrow morning’s final race of the 2025 Michelin Le Mans Cup Series season with both Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 powered crews populating the front row of the final grid at Portimao.

Having learned of the full season entered #11 Code Racing Development late change in driver line up to series debutants Pascal Huteau and David Kullmann in replacement of the previous advertised Philipp Sager and Valentin Hasse-Clot as well as the guesting #91 Blackthorn AMR of Alex Martin and Charles Bateman making their first appearance together, it appears that their status of no pressure being upon them was enough for both crews to post the two fastest laps time to otherwise dominate the GT3 class front row.

With both Huteau and Kullmann missing the first track sessions of Wednesday, they were (expectedly) one of the slowest in class in both Free Practice 1 yesterday and Free Practice 2 earlier today but with the #91 Blackthorn crew only just further ahead, it was the pace of the cars respective bronze ranked drivers that did the business in class qualifying this afternoon.

Posting a best lap time over a quarter of a second quicker than the rest, former British GT racer Martin easily secured class pole position whilst FFSA GT racer Huteau own lap time 1.38 seconds quicker than the #83 Iron Dames Porsche was enough to grab him second for tomorrows race.

One lap of course never makes a race and with no championship aspirations for either crew, the pressure is off, and we wouldn’t expect them to interfere with the class battle for the ultimate crown that still needs to be determined.

This final race of the season starts at 09:30hrs local tomorrow.
