22GT Racing - Aston Martin Festival at Le Mans

Sunday, June 07, 2015

First the bad news………….

Many would have witnessed the fiery end to 22GT Racing's Aston Martin V12 Vantage whilst it was leading the British GT's Silverstone 500 last weekend having spun out and collided heavily with the pit wall on the International Pit Straight.

This car was also due to be one of three Aston Martin Racing cars belonging to the Derby based team that have been entered into the Aston Martin Festival which is again supporting the 24Hr event - the other cars being a DBRS9 and a V8 Vantage GT4. The team's other Aston Martin, a DB4 is being entered in the Le Mans Legends race also at the same event.

Due to the lack of availability of spares and insufficient workshop time leading up to the event the team have, therefore, had to withdraw the #11 V12 GT3 from the Festival event.

Now the good news …………………….

The team have today confirmed that they have just secured the temporary use of the V12 Vantage GT3 that Barwell Motorsport previously had listed for sale and we believe purchased by TF Sport. It should be noted that this GT3 was sold whilst in Super GT configuration as raced by its previous operators in International GT Open, with the car winning six out of its eight race outings.

The team have also confirmed that Mark Farmer will be sharing the car with his British GT teammate Jon Barnes and shall race the car it in its existing Super GT spec. That makes the trio a real class winning possibility - maybe even overall!!

The story as to who we believe now owns this car and where they intend to race it is a story for another day.
