Fiery end to the Roar before the 24 for AMR

Last weekends three day official test before the Rolex24 came to a flaming end for the Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GTD (GT3) on Sunday when a refuelling rig faulted mid flow, leading to a flash fire on pit row.

We understand that whilst no team or series personnel were injury and the car only suffered minor damage that marked an early end to the Roar before the 24 for drivers Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy, Mathias Lauda and Marco Sorensen.

Until then, the team had been clocking up their laps whilst they used the extended test as both a shakedown and system test together with acclimatisation to the new Continental tyres. Over 200 hundred laps were completed by the team, with some of those being the first ever on the banked oval for WEC champion Marco Sorensen.

None of the laps pushed the 'envelope' of the car and in true AMR fashion ended each of their six test session mid field with the exception of Saturday morning's wet AM session when the finished in P7.

This test says nothing about the ultimate pace of the Vantage GTD in comparison to the rest of the field as others pushed their cars to lap times nearly two seconds faster.

The team and their beautiful Northwest and IQ Options liveried #98 car return to Daytona later in the month ready for the Rolex 24 which starts (race) at 14:30hrs local on Saturday 28th January.
