Miedecke Motorsport back on track

Saturday, June 30, 2018

Australian based Miedecke Motorsport are taking their eldest Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 car for a thrash this weekend in their local State Championship as the team keep working on an entry into the local round of the Australian GT Championship later next month.

Father and son duo, Andrew and George Miedecke are out in their chassis #11 car (the one that we believe is still up for sale) at the event at their local Sydney Motorsport Park in the latest round of the New South Wales Motor racing Championships - entered int the Production Sports Class. SMP is where the duo also took an overall race win at the corresponding round of the Australian GT Championship two years ago.

A post shared from George M earlier today confirmed that he had secured pole ready for race one and his dad was then due out in Qualifying for race 2.

Whilst it is good luck to them, we do know that the team needs to make their new team race wear available to buy - looks awesome!

Two AMR's finally back in GT Cup

Saturday, June 30, 2018

Two of Aston Martin Racing's finest finally return to what is a very hot and sunny Snetterton race track for the fourth round of the GT Cup championship this weekend.

We say finally, as Whitebridge AMR had the misfortune of 'loosing' one of their available V8 Vantage GT4's in a crash whilst testing for another series and have since then been competing in a Team Hard Ginetta for the last two rounds, which at least had kept their class championship title hopes alive.

Whitebridge AMR drivers Chris Murphy and local lad Adam Hatfield return with the teams latest AMR acquisition that the they ran at the Aston Martin Racing Festival at Le Mans earlier this month as well as the last round of the Britcar Championship last weekend. The more observant of you will see that their #72 car is indeed a former Generation AMR SuperRacing car that Murphy purchased from James Holder after the earlier accident, a purchase that allowed the car to win its class at the Le Mans Festival!

They are of course joined at the race weekend with overall winners last time out at Spa Francorchamps, Nigel Hudson and Adam Wilcox aboard their brightly coloured JMH prepared V12 Vantage GT3. Hudson and Wilcox lay just six points off the overall lead in the Championship but lead their GTO Class quite convincingly. Despite their car issues earlier this year Murphy and Hatfield still lead their GTH Class by over 30 points.

With early Free Practice sessions already completed both the #12 Hudson Motorsport car and the #72 Whitebridge AMR car head their respective classes going in to Qualifying for todays two races.

CMRT Eurasia sits out remainder of the Blancpain GT Asia calendar

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

The Provisional entry list for this weekends resumption of the Blancpain GT Asia Series has confirmed something that we were told at Le Mans the other weekend in that it will be doubtful that we shall be seeing the colourful #69 CMRT Eurasia Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 again this season.

Last years Am Driver Champion Jame Cai is understood to have had 'a change of personal circumstance' that will see both him and co -champion Kenneth Lim electively take a 'back seat' having already missed out on the start of the 2018 championship with replacement drivers Adrian D'Silva and Sangwhi Rick Yoon.

Mixed results for #TeamAMR over the weekend

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Last weekend's round of motorsport across Europe produced another mixed bag of results for #TeamAMR with some rekindling previous previous successes whilst others hit problems that put pay to all their hard work.

Avia Racing returned to the Nordschliefe with their distinctly liveried V8 Vantage GT4 for the third round of the VLN having already secured both a podium and a DNF in the opening rounds but having sat out the prestigious ADAC Zurich N24 last month.

At the end of Saturday's three hours the teams #188 entry with drivers Wolfgang Weber, Thomas Krebs and Erik Johansson claimed another SP10 class podium finishing in P2 just two minutes behind the class winning BMW M3.

Meanwhile up at Oulton Park, both Whitebridge AMR and EDF Motorsport returned for the third round of the Britcar Endurance Championship having both contested the AMR Festival at Le Mans the weekend before.

For Mal Sandford and Ben Seyfried combo in the #10 car, their race day was relatively short-lived as just twelve laps into Race 1 Seyfried hit one of the circuit's 'sausage kerbs' that launched the air high into the air before coming down seriously damaging the front suspension, sub frame, steering and engine mounts causing not only a red flag but the end of their racing day. Sounds like the EDF Motorsport guys will have a fair bit of work to do there!

Chris Murphy meanwhile returned with a solo car effort for this round in the only car in the S3 GT4 class with his #72 Vantage GT4 and two decent overall finishes (in both races) allowed him to accumulate enough points to sit just behind team mate Barry McMahon (who always wasn't going to compete at this meeting rather than because his Whitebridge car was damaged at Le Mans) in the Championship before it moves on to the next round at Donington Park next month.

Straus to race again with Automatic Racing at the Glen

Monday, June 25, 2018

Teenage American racer, Aurora Straus will be rejoining the Automatic Racing team in their Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 for the next round of the Continental Tyre Sports Car Challenge from Watkins Glen this weekend.

Having already made a lasting impression with the team the first time they all raced together at the opening round of the CTSCC at the Daytona 24 event earlier this year, Straus has been methodically improving her race craft in a BMW M3 that she races in the Pirelli World Challenge Series in the States.

With regular driver Stephen Phillips having been incapacitated in an accident during Qualifying at the Aston Martin Racing Festival from Le Mans earlier this month, Straus has a received a late 'call up' to partner Al Carter in the teams #99 car for this weekend's events (maybe longer?).

We of course wish her all the best as well as Stephen Phillips who, we believe is returning home today after stays in hospitals in both France and England after his Thursday evening accident at Le Mans.

Another busy weekend for AMR customer teams (Updated)

Friday, June 22, 2018

Two other racing events occupy the attention of four more Aston Martin Racing Customer Teams across Europe as the GT4 European Series resumes in Misano and well as the Dunlop Britcar Endurance Championship at Oulton Park.

All teams featuring in these two events have of course just taken part in last weekend's Aston Martin Racing Festival from Le Mans where the forty five minute race with practice and qualifying sessions proving to be quite destructive for some.

Starting at the somewhat wet Misano circuit located along the Adriatic coastline of eastern Italy, both Academy Motorsport and Street Art Racing line up their single AMR V8 Vantage GT4 apiece having had the Worcestershire based team confirm to us the parting of company with driver (Immanuel Vinke) after just the opening round in Zolder back in April.

The AMR Festival at Le Mans also proved itself to be more than a headache for team boss Matt Nichol-Jones after having had a GT4 car destroyed in an accident in Qualifying and then having another car - the Fiona James' solo entry retire from the main race after just a couple of laps with an issue with the front right corner.

With still possibly two other cars available to him within the team transporter that came across to Italy straight straight after Le Mans that should no longer be an issue for the James/Nichol-Jones pairing. Despite todays rainstorms looming, some quick early laps for Nichol-Jones left their car in P9 out of the 44 car entry in FP1 before FP2 became a complete washout!

Having thoroughly enjoyed his first solo racing experience of the Circuit de La Sarthe with a P16 in class, Australian Mal Sandford rejoins his normal Britcar driving companion Ben Seyfried with their EDF Motorsport prepared GT4 in Cheshire alongside Whitebridge AMR's Chris Murphy.

Not quite as fortunate as some, Murphy also suffered a significant frontal impact with the tyre wall at Le Mans in the car which he was sharing with fellow Britcar entry Barry McMahon for the event, leaving the car with serious front left corner damage - Murphy himself got out unaided and was otherwise OK but his car was missing a wheel!

CORRECTION - We have been told that Barry McMahon was at the wheel at the time of the crash at Le Mans - and NOT Chris Murphy.

We have also found out that Murphy has indeed bought the spare Generation AMR from James Holder as a replacement for the one that got written off earlier this year and that Murphy will be racing this car in Britcar.

Seeing that the team had already lost one of their GT4's to a testing crash before Le Mans and that they had used (borrowed or bought we don't know) one of the Generation AMR SuperRacing cars for another driver in the AMR Festival, we are presently unsure which car Murphy will be driving tomorrow? All we can see is that McMahon is not entered into the event at Oulton Park.

Britcar's two races take place on Saturday only whilst the GT4 European Series have an hour race over both Saturday and Sunday and these are both streamed live via the series website.

And then there was one AMR for VLN3

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Just a single Aston Martin Racing car will be competing this weekend as the 2018 VLN series resumes at the Nordschleife with the VLN3 - ADAC H&R Cup.

Avia Racing's #188 V8 Vantage GT4 returns to the circuit having skipped last months ADAC Zurich 24H showcase event and having experienced a very 'hit and miss' start to the VLN series with a podium and a DNF in the SP10 class and will be driven by its usual driver line up of Wolfgang Weber, Thomas Krebs and Erik Johansson.

The customer entries normally lodged from the AMR Performance Centre are presumably having a break after their cars attending last weekends AMR Festival at Le Mans.

Team Brit edge one step closer to Le Mans 24hr dream

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Team BRIT is proudly celebrating after its first race on the Le Mans circuit in the Aston Martin Le Mans Festival at the weekend.

The all-British team, consisting of disabled drivers, many of whom are injured military veterans, competed in the 45-minute support race on Saturday 16th June, held just prior to the annual endurance race. This made motorsport history, making them first all-disabled team to race on the La Sarthe circuit – a record they hope to gain in the Le Mans 24 hour.

Military veterans Warren McKinlay and Jamie Falvey drove as part of the two-man team, racing in the team’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage in only their second GT4 race to date.

The team lined up against 37 other teams on the start grid, with 24 cars in their GT4 class. They finished in a respectable 9th place, beating a number of high profile drivers including former F1 champion Martin Brundle and his team mate Chris Hoy. Warren also posted a faster ‘fastest lap’ than Martin Brundle and GT3 champion Andrew Howard.

During free practise on Thursday, the first time the team’s car and drivers had been on the circuit, Jamie showed a strong pace against a very competitive field and climbed to P3 by the end of the session.

During Qualifying that afternoon, Warren went straight out with no experience of the circuit and gave a fantastic performance, taking the team to the middle of the pack straight away. Jamie then carried on Warren’s momentum to reach P4.

Saturday saw the start of the race at 9:15am, and after some setup changes to the car, the team approached the challenge with optimism, confidence and determination – an attitude that paid off as Jamie took the team to P2 by the end of the first lap.

As the race progressed, with Jamie chasing down P1 at a second a lap, a safety car was deployed to control the pack around an incident on track. As the pit window opened, a marshal mistakenly indicated to Jamie to enter the pits at the wrong point, causing the team to drop 10 places to p12.

With Warren then taking over, he pushed hard, navigating the slow zones and bringing the team home in a respectable p9 out of 24 teams.

CEO and Founder of Team BRIT, Dave Player said, “Racing at Le Mans, waving the British flag amongst an extremely high standard of cars and teams, at such an incredible event, was simply fantastic.

“Despite the bad luck which came our way and lost us a number of positions, we delivered a clean race, even amongst some chaotic times on track. Warren and Jamie did a brilliant job of staying out of trouble and putting their hours of simulator training to good use – delivering an impressive performance.

“Our technical team in the garage worked tirelessly to ensure our car was in top condition, even after a small problem after practice, and once again we demonstrated everything Team BRIT is about. We were clearly the most inexperienced team, racing on a budget that was miniscule compared to all other teams, and we were fighting for P1 in class before events out of our control changed that.

“This is what we do. We prove people wrong by demonstrating our British grit and passion and we take on every challenge full force. We are absolutely determined to reach the Le Mans 24 hour and we will do this. This was a huge step forward for us and I am incredibly proud of the hard work the entire team put in – showing the world just how serious we are.”

Details of the team’s next GT4 race will be released soon. The team’s rookies will compete in the Fun Cup Championship at Silverstone on Saturday 28th July.

Aston Martin confirm Test Centre at Silverstone

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Aston Martin Lagonda today announces two important new additions to its UK site operations. The Aston Martin Test and Development Centre at Silverstone will become a new hub for prototype vehicle testing, focused on chassis dynamics and high-speed handling.  Concurrently announced is the creation of a central London office providing conveniently located space for meetings and events.
Commenting on these announcements, Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer said: “The company is now investing for growth across the Aston Martin and Lagonda brands. I am particularly pleased that we can now call Silverstone home for dynamic testing and development.”
Stuart Pringle, Managing Director of Silverstone commented “Automotive brand centres have always been a big part of Silverstone’s diversification plans and I am delighted to be in a position to announce that Aston Martin have chosen Silverstone as the location to open their new testing and development centre.    Our two brands have such a rich British motorsport heritage and I look forward to working closely with the team at Aston Martin to build on our relationship and ensure the partnership helps deliver on key business objectives for both parties.”
Chief of Vehicle Attribute Engineering, Matt Becker said: “Every true performance car company needs a reference circuit and I can think of none more suitable than Silverstone. It is the perfect location to develop the next-generation of Aston Martins.”
Since the announcement of the company’s seven-year Second Century Business Plan in early 2015, there has been a progressive retooling of every area of the business. In 2016, the company announced the creation of a second manufacturing facility located at St Athan in Wales, which is on schedule to start production of a new SUV in late 2019. With the addition of Silverstone and London, Aston Martin Lagonda will operate out of 10 locations across the UK and by the end of 2022 is set to employ 5,000 people.
“Aston Martin will soon become one of the leading automotive employers in the UK”, said Dr Palmer. “Specifically, we are currently one of the largest automotive recruiters in the UK, investing approximately 10% of the total automotive investments in the UK, creating exciting new opportunities across engineering, design, manufacturing and commercial operations.”
