Miedecke Motorsport switch to something new

Miedecke Motorsport switch to something new

A few weeks ago now we learned from George Miedecke that the family run team had received and accepted two offers for their entire Aston Martin Racing fleet as they looked to switch from GT racing into the Australian TA2 Series.

Selling both V12 Vanatge GT3 cars to a team in Europe and their GT4 to a national track day club, todays announcement from the team formally puts an end to their association with the AMR brand after a couple of season in the Australian GT Championship in both GT3 and GT4.

Indeed, the teams parting contribution to the Australian GT scene was their introduction and driver coaching for GT convertee Jeremy Gary in the car that he would later go on to take a commanding Championship win in the Australian GT GT4 Championship (with the help of Andrew Miedecke in the Endurance events).

With the costs of top flight GT3 racing forever increasing it is probably fair to say that the TA2 Series reflects a more cost effective form of racing for the father/son lead team. "We are racers first and foremost" said George Miedecke. "Whilst we loved GT racing, my PRO3 status meant that I could never race on my own" he added.

We wish them all the best!

Latest Champions confirmed for Aston Martin Arcing customer teams

Latest Champions confirmed for Aston Martin Arcing customer teams

Having already won the two previous races of the final GT Cup Championship round at Silverstone this weekend, Whitebridge AMR's Adam Hatfield and Chris Murphy have now been confirmed as the overall GT Cup Champions of 2018 as well.

With todays final race of the season finale being abandoned due to weather related track conditions, the crucial points gained on Saturday were more than enough for the crew of the #72 Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 to secure the overall crown to go with their class title that they had already secured at the previous round at Donington.

Never looking back when adversity hit them made season with the loss of their car in a testing accident, Hatfield's connections with the Team Hard Ginetta team allowed them to continue with their championship aspirations whilst they source another Aston.

With so many individual race wins inner his belt this season Hatfield will have a real chance of following in the footsteps of his co driver by winning the Aston Martin Racing "Rookie of the Year' Award at the factories annual prize giving gala and from earlier conversations he is already looking at possible avenues to make use of the facilities being made available under the factory's Academy Driver programme for 2019.

With no GT4 cars competing at the final round of the Australian GT Championship's final round of the season at the Hampton Downs circuit in New Zealand allowed for the confirmation that Jeremy Gray has indeed secured that Championship's very first GT4 title also after a near commanding performance throughout the season aboard his JMG Bilstein AMR Vantage GT4.

First introduced to the car by Andrew Miedecke lats year, the former saloon car racer soon found his feet in the GT endurance scene securing a trio of podium finishes as early as the opening event of the year. With the racing experience of Miedecke alongside him for the longer Endurance races, only a brief 'hiccup-cup' in fortune for them at the fourth race of the season stopped his winning margin from being any larger than what is was!

Congratulations to both teams - hope we get to see you race again somewhere in 2019.

A fitting farewell for Hampton Downs at Australian GT finale

A fitting farewell for Hampton Downs at Australian GT finale

The Australian GT Championship races out their final event of the season at the Tony Quinn owned Hampton Downs race track this weekend, an event that sadly also marks the final time at the circuit for the 'foreseeable future'.

A staunch connoisseur of cars from Aston Martin, the former Scottish born and now New Zealand business man recently sold his controlling interest in the Australian GT Championship to Trofeo Motorsport who later confirmed that the Championship's annual pilgrimage to the South Island of New Zealand would come to an end at the end of the 2018 season.

Missing from the weekends proceedings will be confirmed Australian GT GT4 Champion Jeremy Gray and his distinctively livered JMG Bilstein Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4. Having stepped up from saloon car racing to GT4 under the guiding eye of Andrew Miedecke last year (and who he raced with in the Endurance rounds), Gray went on to effectively lead the GT4 Championship from the front with multiple race wins right from the off from the start of the National Championship in March through to a trio of wins last time out at Sydney Motorsport Park.

With the Championship assured Gray has elected not to make the trip

Tony Quinn indeed sees out the 2018 season aboard his trusty old V12 Vantage GT3 again in lieu of his McLaren 650S - a car that has not always suited him and is joined by Andrew Waite for the 101 lap endurance race on Sunday.

Known to be the owner of the only Southern Hemisphere based Aston Martin Vulcan it has been reported that he has also become the owner of the only Valkyrie on that side of the world as well! Being the owner of two racetracks could prove to be quite useful for him!

Welcome back Tony Quinn to #TeamAMR

Welcome back Tony Quinn to #TeamAMR

After whats been just about a year's sabbatical from the marque, Scottish born New Zealand resident Tony Quinn returns to the Aston Martin Racing fold for the next round of the Australian GT Championship from Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.

Having swapped his own V12 Vantage GT3 in favour of his son's former 2016 championship winning McLaren 650S instead back in March last year, racing performances didn't always go exactly to plan for the then main stakeholder in the Australian GT Championship.

Having relinquished that controlling interest in the Championship only a few weeks ago, the Championship has confirmed an entry for the main Aston Martin Lagonda protagonist in Australasia with a car undoubtedly brandishing more logos of another one of his food empires.

Quinn rejoins the Miedecke Motorsport V12 Vantage GT3 entry for Andrew and George Miedecke for what is expected to be (at the moment anyway) a one off entry for the father/son duo in the main championship.

Rounding off the AMR entry for Sydney Motorsport Park is of course the GT4 Championship leading V8 Vantage of Jeremy Gray who enjoys a lead of 170 points with just two rounds remaining.
Gray recently tested the Miedecke ran GT3 at the circuit earlier this month in a possible developmental step for him next year.

The fifth round of the season will kick off with practice, qualifying, and an opening 40-minute race on Friday August 3 followed by two more 40-minute races on the Saturday August 4.

Miedecke's back in their Vantage GT3 for Sydney MSP in Aussie GT

Miedecke's back in their Vantage GT3 for Sydney MSP in Aussie GT

Family run team Miedecke Motorsport will return to the venue of their only national series overall  race win next weekend as at the father and son duo make a temporary return to the Australian GT Championship.

Having put their family businesses before their racing pleasures over the past eighteen months or so, the team have confirmed that Andrew (father) will be again joining George (son) aboard their near new (chassis #39) V12 Vantage GT3 when the Australian GT meets again at Sydney Motorsport Park - the event that they won outright back in 2016 seen again

The pair have just enjoyed a private test at the circuit that saw them being joined by GT4 championship leader Jeremy Gray with his Bilstein supported V8 Vantage GT4 that Andrew also co shares during the championships Endurance events. It was of course through the Miedecke's that Gray sourced his GT4 from back in the tail end of 2016.

The test also saw Gray get behind the wheel of the teams AMR Vantage GT3 for the first time, a move that is surely designed to coax him from one AMR platform to the next ready for next season.

Oh to have another Bilstein liveried AMR Vantage GT3!!

Miedecke Motorsport back on track

Miedecke Motorsport back on track

Australian based Miedecke Motorsport are taking their eldest Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 car for a thrash this weekend in their local State Championship as the team keep working on an entry into the local round of the Australian GT Championship later next month.

Father and son duo, Andrew and George Miedecke are out in their chassis #11 car (the one that we believe is still up for sale) at the event at their local Sydney Motorsport Park in the latest round of the New South Wales Motor racing Championships - entered int the Production Sports Class. SMP is where the duo also took an overall race win at the corresponding round of the Australian GT Championship two years ago.

A post shared from George M earlier today confirmed that he had secured pole ready for race one and his dad was then due out in Qualifying for race 2.

Whilst it is good luck to them, we do know that the team needs to make their new team race wear available to buy - looks awesome!

Dramatic Phillip Island race claims Bilstein Vantage GT4

Dramatic Phillip Island race claims Bilstein Vantage GT4

Another Aston Martin Racing car to have a disastrous race this weekend was the JMG Bilstein V8 Vantage GT4 of Aussie racers Jeremy Gray and Andrew Miedecke at the Phillip Island 101 round of the Australian GT Endurance Championship.

With the GT4 Championship leader racing solo for all of the GT rounds, he shared his #67 car again with Andrew Miedecke for the second endurance round of the season.

Having not fared so well in the opening endurance round at the The Bend earlier last month, everything was looking promising for the duo in the Friday/Saturday proceedings as the duo claimed P2 and P3 in class during the two Free Practice sessions. Qualifying was even better as first Gray secured P2 in Q1 and Miedecke P1 in Q2.

From its starting position of P17 overall, the #67 car was P2 in class after the race had already been red flagged due to a heavy accident with a Ginetta GT4 a few laps earlier and were following the #48 KTM X Bow when the #48 suddenly left the track at turn 1 and crashed heavily into the tyre wall.

For a reason none other than the assumption of there being debris on the track, Gray in the #67 car followed the X-Bow to the very scene of the 348's accident to obliterate his front near side corner in doing so.

With turn 1 being extremely fast, this accident was the cause of the race's second red flag - a race that was ultimately shortened in length to accommodate the two accidents. Thankfully, neither driver was hurt in the incident.

Ironically, the #48 Glen Wood car is Grays closest GT4 Championship rival so championship gaps have been relatively maintained as a result.

The next round of the Australian GT Championship will be at Sydney Motorsport Park in August when we hope the Miedecke V12 Vantage GT3 may indeed reappear!

Situation - Reality check

Situation - Reality check

Certainly the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June 2018 will never go down in the annuals of Aston Martin Racing and its customer teams as one of their best as, after weeks of ever improving success issues around the world, those running the winged marque were finally brought back down to earth with something of a bump.

There have fortunately been a couple of exceptions to that so it certainly isn't a position of immediate doom and gloom, but after previous dominant performances in series such as Blancpain GT Series, China GT Championship and the Australian Endurance Championship most of the AMR runners in these series endured a weekend to forget.

That situation has now been exaggerated with the unfortunate incidences surrounding two of Aston Martin Racings entry into the Le Mans Official Test today as the #98 GTE Am car suffered extensive damage to the underside of the car after hitting a raised kerb and with the #95 GTE Pro being extensively damaged in an inter-car collision.

Fortunately nobody has been hurt in either incident which is always the main thing - we understand that both AMR factory cars are being inspected to see if they can indeed be rebuilt with team members being dispatched back to the factory tonight for more resources in order to make the cars available for further testing at Le Mans on the Bugatti circuit this week,

The icing on the cake (for us at least here at The-Advantage anyway) came today in the form of a polite refusal from the ACO for our media accreditation request for the Le Mans event  - a refusal which is a particularly difficult pill to swallow considering the AMR Festival again supports the headline event.

How many of us will review this difficult weekend for the teams involved however, is how they recover themeslves to where they should rightly be before moving onwards and upwards and that is what we look forward to witnessing over the coming weeks and months.

We believe that this is what some 'character building"!!

A maximum points haul for Gray in Australian GT

A maximum points haul for Gray in Australian GT

Rounding off another successful weekend of motor racing for Aston Martin Racing and its customer and Partner teams was a clean sweep in the GT4 proceedings down at the third round of the Australian GT Championship at Sundown Park.

Having lost his 'mojo' a little last time out at The Bend in the first endurance round of the season, the #67 JMG/Bilstein V8 Vantage GT4 of Jeremy Gray secured total dominance over the weekends three, forty minute races to restore his lead in the overall championship.

With his main protagonist Justin McMillan not racing at the weekend, Gray now sees his championship lead extend by 213 points over the KTM X-Bow racer as the championship now moves over to Philip Island in early June.

Latest V12 Vantage GT3 of the fleet to debut at NSWMRC

Latest V12 Vantage GT3 of the fleet to debut at NSWMRC

This naked Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 is the latest of Prodrive's creations (but not the newest) to hit the tracks having been only just pieced together this month over in Australia.

This is chassis #39, an acquisition made by Andrew and George Miedecke nearly a year ago and at the same time as another GT3 was supplied via the Miedecke Stone Motorsport team to fellow Australian John Kaias - which is itself another car that we have yet to see!

Seen here in its semi constructed state going for a dyno test this week, this GT3 will debut/shakedown at this weekends New South Wales Racing Championships event from Sydney Motorsport Park in the hands of George Miedecke. After that it is hoped the team can make a decision after whether or not to enter the car at that circuits round of the Australian Endurance Championship later in the year.

Gray and Miedecke struggle at weather affected race at The Bend

Gray and Miedecke struggle at weather affected race at The Bend

Having gloried at the first round of the Australian GT Championship earlier this month with three top step podiums as well as a third, it was back down to earth for the #67 Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 crew as they embarked on their first round of the Endurance Championship.

Racing at Australia's newest motor racing circuit at The Bend Motorsport Park near Adelaide, the driving crew would always be slightly on the back foot compared to their GT4 class opposition as the weather made a dramatic impact upon race proceedings.

Have had a full day of testing at the circuit on Thursday under what appeared to near 'normal' Australian weather, the first of Friday's Free Practice would descended into chaos as a sizeable rain storm deposited an extra-ordinary amount of rain upon the circuit forcing many to curtail they practice and setup plans. For the #67 crew that amounted to just two laps ahead of Saturday's Qualifying.

The two Qualifying sessions were also affected by weather - this time with strong warmer winds lifting the surrounding light soils to create dust storms that would lead to undriveable conditions forcing the race organisers to revise their race and timetable strategy.

Originally a two part race over both Saturday and Sunday, it was decided to race an increased race duration but over a shortened track variation as further strong winds were again being predicted.

Despite all of this, #67 crew Jeremy Gray and Andrew Miedecke still managed to qualify just behind their GT championship protagonists Justin McMillan and Glenn Wood in their KTM X-Bow but their lack of track time and familiarity (especially with the now revised track formation the led to a near 2.0km reduction in lap length) the #67 crew would finish the 2hr 40min race some ten seconds behind the X-Bow after a 5 second penalty (reason unknown) had been applied.

Miedecke Snr to join Gray at next round of Australian GT

Miedecke Snr to join Gray at next round of Australian GT

The second round of the Australian GT Championship sees Jeremy Gray reunited with his old driver coach, Andrew Miedecke when the series hits the country's newest racetrack at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia next weekend.

Having opened his GT4 racing account last early year alongside Miedecke in the New South Wales Motor Racing Championships in the car that Miedecke supplied him via Academy Motorsport in the UK, the part time saloon/ part time GT4 driver came away from the opening round with three class wins and a third to lead the fledgling GT4 championship.

Having been a regular entry alongside son George in the Australian GT Endurance championship a couple of seasons ago, the Miedecke's have unfortunately been diverted from their racing desires in order to concentrate on their family businesses that pays so its good to see one or the other back at any racetrack doing what they love.

Whereas the first round was a series of short sprint races, the second round equates to a 500km enduro across the two days of racing - hence the two driver requirement with the second race blending into an evening finish.

Miedecke Stone Motorsport need someone to help build something beautiful

Miedecke Stone Motorsport need someone to help build something beautiful

Australian based Miedecke Stone Motorsport are in the recruitment market looking for an experienced race mechanic to help build various fine tin top race cars for the team as well as their brand new Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3!

Chassis #39 was acquired by the team at the mid way point of last year alongside another customer bought GT3 car, with their car being intended to be run by them at the 2018 Bathurst 12hour event.

Whilst we do not yet know where this car will be run in 2018, one thing for sure is that their new GT3 will be the last AMR V12 Vantage GT3 to be built even though the last V12 chassis has already left the Prodrive factory!

International news catch up

International news catch up

Putting today's new out of Paris to one side, elsewhere in the world has seen #TeamAMR kick off 2018 with a brace of podiums in South Africa and the re-emergence of our friends down under.

Charl Arangies and his Stradale Motorsport team kicked off their opening rounds of their national Extreme Supercars Series two weeks ago with two lights to chequered flag overall race wins aboard their former Motorbase Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3. This is their first year aboard the AMR having stepped up last year from a Lamborghini.

Meanwhile and over in the USA last month, Canadian based GT Racing were again out with their former PFL Motorsport V12 Vantage GT3 at the PBOC Motorsport Winterfest event at the Sebring International Raceway where father and son duo Marc and Louis-Philippe Montour extended their collection of silverware for their efforts

Competing in two sprint races and a six hour night enduro, the duo collected class gongs for P3 and P2 in class for each sprint race respectively before claiming top class honours in the night race.

Over in Queensland, Australia and not race meeting related we saw Miedecke Stone Motorsport out for the first time this year (yesterday) shaking down their two V12 Vantage GT3's after their winter rebuilds which sees their chassis #11 (the white car) being listed for sale whilst final deals are put into place for their remaining GT3/GT4 machinery within their domestic Australian GT series.

What what it first appeared to be - phew!!

What what it first appeared to be - phew!!

Perusing the classifieds last night quickly led to some frantic social media communication with some around the other side of the world in order to dispel our initial fears.

Listed on the Racecardirect.com web site this week were two Aston Martin Racing cars from Miedecke Stone Motorsport - a team who have taken something of a step back from competitive motorsport in 2017.

Thankfully George Miedecke confirmed late last night that the sale of two of teams four cars are being listed for sale as a simple rationalisation of asset before final decisions on prospective plans for 2018 are committed to. The team retains two V12 Vantage GT3's.

Being listed is the teams number #11 chassis - fully rebuilt and upgraded since its third place result last time out at the 2016 Australian GT finale at Highlands Park in New Zealand. The car had been listed for sale before before being withdrawn for its rebuild.

Full listing details can be found HERE

The other listing is for what we believe to be the teams last acquisition, a V8 Vantage GT4 used by Andrew Miedecke in two New South Wales Motor Racing Championship events.

Details of that listing can be found HERE

We understand that the father and son team had elected to take a step back in 2017 to concentrate on their family businesses in Australia - something that makes perfect commercial sense considering the raising cost of motorsport. We hope to see them out on track again somewhere soon.

Miedecke hits the dance floor in the fight against Cancer

Earlier today European time will have seen Australian Aston Martin GT racer George Miedecke hit the dance floor along with his professional dance partner all in aid of of a local charitable event against cancer.

Proud to describe himself as six foot six inches - not six foot five inches, Miedecke joined a group of nine other local business people and personalities from New South Wales at the Stars of The Hastings Dance for Cancer event.

Incredibly, across the nine couples competing a near whopping $88,500.00 Aus has been already raised for this worthy cause.

Well done to all!

Possibly three Astons on The Mountain this weekend

Possibly three Astons on The Mountain this weekend

Today sees the start of the 2017 Challenge Bathurst event from Mount Panorama with three Aston Martin Racing platforms now due to participate.

Used by many as valuable preparatory track experience of the circuit before the Liquid Moly 12 Hours of Bathurst in early 2018, this weekend's entry list sees tiptop racer cum GT convertee, Jeremy Gray joining the fray with his #67 AMR V8 Vantage GT4 alongside the Miedecke Stone Motorsport's Vantage GT3 and GT4 which the father and son dup will share.

Andrew Miedecke and Jeremy Gray have already raced together this year in their local New South Wales Motor Racing Championships in what was formally an Academy Motorsports car together with Andrew taking class honours first time out in their recently acquired N24.

George Miedecke is also listed to attend in the team's other V12 Vantage GT3 car as he works to finalise the team's plans to race in the 12 Hours of Bathurst in the Pro/Pro class with possibly two cars although the GT3's attendance is not yet confirmed.

All three AMR's will see track action over both Saturday and Sunday with live timing available HERE

Miedecke's make an early return to The Mountain

Miedecke's make an early return to The Mountain

Having sat out most of the 2017 season, father and son racing duo Andrew and George Miedecke are planning on a simple return to racing life over the next few weeks with visits to both Bathurst and Phillip Island.

With Andrew having contented himself with a couple of entries into their local New South Wales Motor Racing championships (with some success it must be added) and George more recently at an Australian tin top endurance event, both are listed as entries into the 2017 Challenge Bathurst event on the infamous street circuit later this month.

Both of the Miedecke Stone Motorsport's AMR GT3 and GT4 cars have been listed within the Supersprint Group D field at the event that starts November 16th although George only mentioned that their latest Vantage N24 acquisition as being entered so we will wait and see what happens there.

After that however, George has confirmed that both of the team's GT3 and GT4 are entered into the Island Magic racing club event at the Phillips Island circuit at the end of November as the team readies themselves for the pinnacle Australian GT event back at Bathurst in February 2018.

Last we heard was that just one of the team's AMR V12 Vantage GT3's was 2/3rd's confirmed although they hoped to enter a second GT3 as well as a GT4.
