Sad news from British GT

Tuesday, September 29, 2020

Well, today sees an unfortunate double whammy of bad news for fans of the British GT Championship!

Firstly, we have confirmation from the race organisers that the final round of the revised 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Silverstone in November will (after all) be from behind closed doors. Without giving any specific reason as to why rounds can be held at MSV Circuits but not at the ‘home’ of British motor racing, the Championship issued this statement

The Intelligent Money British GT Championship's blue riband Silverstone 500 event will be held behind closed doors on November 7/8.

As one of the UK’s major sports venues, Silverstone has been working to the guidance of the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the safe return of spectators. The circuit has been unable to host fans since March but had been working hard behind the scenes to run British GT’s event with public. Both parties have waited for as long as possible to make this announcement but must now concede it is not possible to hold the event with spectators.

This weekend’s round at Snetterton will go ahead as planned with fans in attendance, while all three hours of the Silverstone 500 will be streamed live, free and unrestricted across British GT and SRO’s social media platforms.

That news comes in addition to some other news also confirmed by the Championship and the team that this weekend’s penultimate round of the season from Snetterton will now NOT include the Beechdean Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 of Andrew Howard and Valentin Hasse-Clot.

This leaves the two Championship contending TF Sport Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s as again the sole AMR representatives for the two one hour races in Norfolk. With more wintery weather in store going into the weekend, it may well become survival of the fittest in Norfolk on Sunday.
