Mixed Aston Martin fortunes in second round of BEC from Brands Hatch

Sunday, April 23, 2023

The second round of the British Endurance Championship was run around the Indy Loop of the Brands Hatch circuit on Saturday with another diverse grid including the #6 Venture Innovations Aston Martin Vulcan of Gleb Stepanov and Stephen Tomkins as well as the #50 MKH AMR Vantage GT4 of Peter Montague and Stuart Hall.

Whilst the #6 car qualified upon the front row of the grid for Saturday’s two-hour race, the #50 car had its fastest lap deleted for track limits.

All that soon became irrelevant for the #6 Vulcan as cold tyres sent the million plus pound car heavily into the tyre wall half-way around the opening lap bring out the Safety Car and an expensive repair bill for Stepanov, the car’s owner.

Whilst he and co-driver Stephen Tomkins faced the woe of a DNF, the #50 pairing went onto slice through the field from two laps down at one point to come home P4 overall and second in class to add to their class win at Silverstone last time out.

The next round of the BEC will be from Oulton Park at the end of May.

Being the ever athlete that he is, Stuart Hall left the circuit to run in the London Marathon in an incredible 3 and a half hours.
