Seven AMR Vantage GT4 crews again do battle in Michelin Pilot Challenge from RA this weekend

Again supporting the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship at Road America this weekend will be the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series with another bumper grid of thirty-six GS and TCR based cars with the usual seven Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 brigade riding along again for good measure.

The last meeting of the series just over the Canadian border at Canadian Tires Motorsport Park saw the Van Der Steur team take their first podium finish of the season as drivers Rory Van Der Steur and a deputising Scott Andrews scored a much-deserved overall P2 finish, just ahead of the still Championship leading #46 Team TGM AMR of Matt Plumb and Paul Holton in third.

This time around, we see Frenchman Valentin Hasse-Clot return to the #19 VDS car alongside his namesake, a change in drivers within the #16 Skip Barber Racing AMR as Ross Chastain joins the SBR scholarship winner Ken Fukuda and with JP Southern again joining Scott Blind within the brightly coloured #45 Ruckus Racing effort.

Other than that, it’s all the same within #64 Team TGM AMR of Hugh Plumb and Ted Giovanis, the sole 2024 Evo Vantage GT4 #71 Rebel Rock Racing AMR of Robin Liddell and Frank DePew as well as the #88 Archangel entry for Tod Coleman and Aaron Telitz.

Just another frantic two-hour dash around the four-mile circuit in what will be the seventh round of a ten round strong season. As racing matters start to get towards their natural conclusions, it is an Aston Martin 1-2-3 within the GS Drivers Champiosnhip as Matt Plumb leads teammate Holton by three hundred points (Holton having taken over the reins from a still convalescing Owen Trinkler) with Van Der Steur now just thirty points behind him.

Still, plenty of points to play for over these final rounds so nothing is being taken for granted considering the competitive nature of the series again this season. Track action begins this Friday with Free Practice before both Qualifying and the two-hour race on Saturday.
