First taste of podium glory for L&A Infinity in Italian GT this weekend

The Italian based L&A Infinity Aston Martin Racing team finally became of age this weekend after the second their first podium position of the season within the latest round of the national series Sprint series.

Racing again at Mugello, the older 16A version of the Vantage GT3 was again under the control of drivers William Alatalo and Mattia Di Giusto for this third round of the sprint series having raced at the circuit with the previous round of their parallel Endurance Series commitments just a few weeks earlier.

There was plenty of drama within each fifty minute plus one lap races as both were heavily Safety Car influenced – race one for a substantial multiple car collision on the opening lap that brought out the red flag and others for the usual cars stuck in varying gravel traps along the way.

In race one, the team was unfortunate as at the time of the red flag Alatalo was running second overall before dropping back to sixth upon the actual restart.

Being another multi-class series, by the end of that opening race of the weekend, Di Giusto was able to hang on to bring their car home fifth overall but importantly third in Pro-Am for their first podium finish of the season.

Unfortunately, that momentum was not sustainable for the weekend’s closing race on Sunday as a low order qualifying position left the metallic green liveried car towards the rear of the grid, amongst all the bumping and banging of the opening laps and the ensuing Safety Car interventions.

Further trouble hit the car at their mandatory pits stop as power steering issues kept the car within pit lane long enough for them to go a lap down come the end of the race for a disappointing P7 in class finish.

The next round of the season will be another endurance round, this time from Imola at the beginning of September.
