Championship hopes for one AMR powered runner at Super Cars Espanas final round from Jerez

By virtue of their long summer break sees that series within a series event run on longer than most as another twenty-nine strong GT4 powered entry will line up this weekend at the Circuito do Jerez Angel Nieto for their two hour long races this weekend.

Miguel Ferreira and Fernando Soares are back with their #007 NGT Motorsport Am class entry alongside the #777 RV7 entry for Ruben Vaquinhas and Mico Mineiro. The Portuguese Racar Motorsport team will again field a two-car entry for both Vasco Oliveira and Manuel Giao within their #28 Bronze class entry alongside the Pro classed #77 entry for drivers Mathieu Martins and Anton Morsing.

As for the other two series, there are still four races to go within each so much can still change within their running orders with Oliveira again heading the bronze class within the Iberian Series but also with Martins/Morsing and Vaquinhas still possibilities should results go their way. Vaquinhas also has a dominating class lead within the CPV Series.

More Aston Martins added to the new for 2026/27 Asian Le Mans Cup Series

This winter’s European based Asian Le Mans Series just got a little busier for us Aston Martin Racing powered fans as the ACO series today confirmed an eighteen strong multi-class grid for their supporting Asian Le Mans Cup Series that will run for the first time at the season opener from Paul Ricard in mid-November.
Another unfortunate change of plan due to the ongoing tensions within the Persian Gulf, the Asian Le Mans Series was somewhat forced to reposition its usual winter race programme from the normal Dubai and Abu Dhabi destinations to places in something Europe that would still entice the suitably financed teams and individuals to take part.
Whilst the main attraction will again field another forty-seven strong multi-classed grid of (this year) Hypercar, LMP2 and GT3 powered teams including four Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 powered crews within the GT3 class – that left no room for the many LMP3 powered crews that more than made up the numbers over the years.

Running the same three venue, two races per venue format at Paul Ricard this year before moving onto both Jerez and Portimao in January and February next year, we will welcome both the Racing Spirit of Leman and E2P Racing Aston Martins along too. Whilst no drivers were confirmed today, we won’t have to wait too long for that information as the season opening in France is just three weeks away.

Four Aston Martin Vantage GT3 powered crews confirmed within this years enforced look Asian Le Mans Series from Europe
Due to the ongoing geo-political situation within the Middle East at the moment, the Asian Le Mans Series made a swift decision to relocate its traditional cross winter season from their more traditional homes of Dubai and Abu Dhabi to circuits within southern Europe in order to provide some kind of surety to their partners that their commitment to the new season will be met with some racing at the end of the day.
The news confirmed today states the maximum grid size that all three circuits can routinely accommodate as well as some expectation with the names behind the team entries.
This news went onto confirm that Ian James and Gray Newell would be associated with each of the Heart of Racings #26 and #27 car entries as well as Arnold Robin, Jonny Edgar and Valentin Hasse-Clot being confirmed already within the #68 Car Blanche entry. Last season, the Blackthorn car was crewed last year by Giacomo Petrobelli, Jonny Adam and Kobe Pauwels but this time Adam’s name is not there within the #70 entry list for this year but the other two are.

Podiums and Championships won by two AMR crews in Jerez
Originally listed a showing six such Vantage GT4 crews as participating within these two races, it appears that only four may have showed up and with one significant pairing this time not running as how they previously have.
That came in the form of the #77 Racar Motorsport GT4 Pro entry of what should have been Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria where in fact Martins was this time joined by the younger Henrique Olivera for these two races. Why? – we’re not sure!
A pole position and two P3 podium finishes were enough for the #77 car of Martins to claim both the Overall and GT4 Pro Championship classes with just the two final races of the endurance series from Estoril still to come. This surely makes up for him being runner up in class last season.
Then, a pair of class wins for the #777 Gianfranco Motorsport Am classed AMR Vantage GT4 entry of Ruben Vaquinhas and Pedro Bastos Rezende was also enough for the pairing to claim top honours within that class
The #79 Racar Motorsport AMR Bronze class entry of Vasco Oliveira and Francisco Carvalho finished just short of a similar milestone – ultimately finishing third in class overall for their troubles.

Six Aston Martins go again within the Iberian Supercars Series this weekend from Jerez
Within the provisional entry list, we would expect to see six Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 powered crews compete – mainly within the GT4 classed entry but with an older generation also competing amongst the GTC and TCR entry.
After previous rounds at Portimao, Jarama, Vila Real and most recently at Valencia in mid-September, we still see the #77 Racar Motorsport AMR of Mathieu Martin and Roberto Faria lead the way by just nine points within their GT4 Pro class whilst teammates Vasco Oliveira and Francisco Carvalho trail by a similar margin within their GT4 Bronze class.
Completing the Racar entry will be the #78 car of Henrique Oliveira and Luca Savu as well as the #707 entry of Filipe Videira and Antonio Lopes.
The #777 Gianfranco Motorsport #777 and their GT4 Vantage Evo of Rubens Vaquinhas and Pedro Bastos Rezende complete the five Aston Martins within the true GT4 class entry whilst the venerable #700 NGT Vantage of Fernando Soares and Miguel Ferreira will compete again within their GTX class.

Championship gains and losses for the AMR powered crews after Iberian Supercars visit to Valencia
This time racing at Valencia, the six AMR’s from the Araujo Competicao, Racar Motorsport and Gianfranco Motorsport teams could only manage a pair of class podium finishes between them after the two fifty-minute races.
The Pro class entered #77 Racar car of Roberto Faria and Mathieu Martins suffered the most effect as their P4 and P3 respective class finishes saw them now tied on points at the head of the drivers’ championship table with two rounds still remaining.
The #777 Gianfranco entry of Ruben Vaquinhas and Pedro Bastos Rezende had the best weekend by far as they won their Am Class in race one before backing that up with a further P2 finish in race two as they extend their championship lead to twenty-two points.
The only other podium finish was from the #78 Racar car of Henrique Oliveira and the young Luca Savu who claimed a P2 result within their Pro class in race one before failing to start in race two.
The penultimate round of the season will be from Jerez in late October.

Eight AMR Vantage GT4 in Iberian Supercars next round from Estoril
Starting what will only be their second round of their 2024 season so far, the SRO sanctioned series will be running this two-race weekend with another healthy GT4 grid of forty cars.
Racar Motorsport will be the busiest amongst all of them as they again field and AMR powered customer base five car (three within the GT4 Pro class and two within the GT4 Am class) whilst the Araujo Competicao team hosts two GT4 Pro cars with the Mirage Racing team again fielding their solo bronze class entry.
The opening race weekend of the season from Jerez back in late May fielding a collective best of P4 in race at the end of both forty-five-minute pit stop punctuated races.
Here’s hoping for something a bit better this weekend.
Six Aston Martins to feature within opening round of Iberian Supercars at Jerez this weekend
Within the list we will also welcome an incredible SIX Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 powered teams amongst the entry as the Araujo Competicao AMR team is this time joined by both the Racar Motorsport team and the Mirage Racing team with their respective, and mainly all new for 2024 driver line ups.
Unfortunately, gone are Araujo’s reigning GTX Class Champions of Alvaro Ramos and Fernando Soares but the increased AMR line ups will help cater for that fact.
Earlier this week, we posted about how the French Mirage Racing team will be providing one of their cars to young Russian karter Stephan Suslov as he contests a GT4 race for the first time in which we would imagine will be one of their older 17A versions.
Then taking over the #007 Araujo car we have Bruno Pereira and Goncalo Araujo who will compete within the topflight GT4 Pro class as well as Vasco Oliveira and Guilherme Lemos aboard the #28 GT4 Pro entry for the Portuguese team.
The Portuguese Racar Motorsport team will also feature a two car GT4 Pro entry for both Manuel Giao and Mathieu Martins aboard their #2 car and Francisco Cruz and Roberto Faria aboard their #3 car.
Both Martins and Faria will be familiar names having been one of the few race rivals for the Forsetti Motorsport AMR of Mikey Porter and Jamie Day in the GT4 Winter Series as well as Faria also now competing within the #39 GPA Racing AMR within the GT4 European Series.
Track action for these crews will start on Friday with Free Practice before Qualifying on Saturday with two forty-five-minute races on Sunday.

A new pairing take on Araujo Competicao AMR winning Vantage GT4 in Southern Europe
The successfully ran Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 from the Araujo Competicao team will be taken over by a different driver crew this season as Vasco Oliveira and Guilherme Lemos step up to the plate for this year’s Iberian Supercars and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade Series.
Last year piloted by the more gentlemanly pairing of Alvaro Ramos and Fernando Soares to claim the GTX Championship win, the brightly coloured Vantage GT4 will this year be taken on by the younger pairing as they step up to GT4 for the first time.
The team also recently confirmed plans to enter one of the new 2024 Vantage GT4’s into competition once that has been received from Prodrive ahead of an Iberian Supercars season opener from Jerez at the end of May.

Another great weekend for Forsetti in GT4 Winter Series despite the last lap shove off track
Having been busy testing at Portimao during the week with this and other forthcoming driver line ups, the #19 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 powered team arrived at the Jerez track more than up to speed despite the unfamiliarity of the Spanish circuit where both Day and Porter secured pole positions for each of their solo thirty-minute sprints.
Despite rain having hampered earlier Free Practice sessions, Day would go onto secure another faultless lights to flag win during his Saturday Spirit race whilst Porter would have to endure the return of the wet stuff during his on Sunday morning.
Despite hanging onto the lead into the opening sequence of corners, the #19 Forsetti driver was soon being picked off and initially dropped to P4 overall (and in class) as the lead two cars broke away. As the rain become more profound and intense, those gaps decreased as Porter looked more than comfortable within those conditions and argued a great battle with the #78 McLaren for third.
Whilst others would pit for wets, the top five slogged it out and by the time the rain had eased and track conditions had stagnated, Porter would eventually come home fourth overall but third within his own Pro Class for another visit to the podium as well.
Then there was the series concluded hour long endurance race that Day again started from pole. Despite the now treacherous conditions out on track with the return of the rain, Day would again be in command the tempo of the race, eking out a near six second lead before dropping that back by half by the time he pitted.
Emerging at the end of the pit stop sequence in second, Porter was again in the midst of the opening group with just three seconds splitting the top four cars. That dropped to three after ethe Mercedes behind was given a Driver through for a too shorter minimum stop time and that should have left the #19 car comfortable for another podium finish.
However, a stuck Mercedes within a gravel trap brought out the Safety Car with just over five minutes remaining and thanks to a very quick snatch by the circuit marshals, it was back to green with just 90 seconds remaining.
Unfortunately, the over ambition of the penultimate car running on track – one that was already one lap down to the leaders decided it was a good idea to make to lunge up the inside of Porter. Sliding on the paint, the Porsche tapped the Aston Martin into half spin, and taking another trip through the gravel dropped them down to P7 overall and P5 in class at the end.
Nothing that Porter could have done but sadly another piece of motorsport that race drivers have to tolerate and put up with at some point as the series moves onto Valencia for next weekend.

Back to GT4 Winter Series business for Forsetti Motorsport
GT4 Winter Series Championship leaders Forsetti Motorsport will be continuing their preparatory works this week as they build up for the third round of the series this weekend from Jerez.
Having formed at the tail end of the last season, the Norfolk based team have been perhaps the busiest Aston Martin Racing Partner team so far with their testing and early season race programme for their (so far) sole AMR Vantage GT4 and crew. With drivers Jamie Day and Mikey Porter having visited the Pro class podium in five out of the six races run so far at both Estoril and most late at Portimao, the team have already been back at Portimao earlier this week as driver coach Matt George again helps Porter (amongst others) get up to speed within a GT4 platform having stepped across from Ginetta’s last year.
Day and Porter presently hold a slender five-point lead over Joel Mesch but with four triple header rounds still remaining – all is still up in the air.
As per previous rounds, private testing at Jerez starts on Thursday before official timed sessions on Saturday. The provisional entry list issued by the series a few days ago lists a twelve-car entry but NOT the Racar Motorsport AMR Vantage GT4 entry of Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria.

More Aston Martin success in GT4 Winter Series in Portimao
Having debuted together last weekend at Estoril, drivers Mikey Porter and Jamie Day carried on from where they had left off last week but with the Racar Motorsport AMRE pairing of Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria still pushing them hard along the way.
Thankfully, the rains had finally passed the venue by and all three races over the weekend were able to be run on a completely dry track. Like last time, the GT4 Winter Series would run Qualifying and the first 30minute solo driver race on Saturday before the second solo driver race and 60minute endurance race for both drivers later in the day.
Porter and Martins would be first out on Saturday with Porter having his first front row start in P2 with Martins close behind in P3. For Porter, the experience of Martins over the former Ginetta racer would see the two Aston Martins quickly change positions before Porter dropped to P4 overall and in Class.
A timely pass around the McLaren saw Porter move back up to P3 with still half the race remaining where Martins would enter the race’s fastest lap of the race on the final lap of the race as a slowing Mercedes up ahead gave him cause to chase. Unfortunately for him, time ran out as he came home a close second with Porter coming home in third for another AMR 2-3 in class.
For the opening race on Sunday, it was Day against Faria in the AMR stakes and again experience proved pivotable as Day ran another impressive lights to flag winning race whilst the young Faria again fell into the temptation on unnecessary contact early into his 30-minute race hampering his potential. The #9 Racar AMR would finish P5.
To round the second round of the season off, it was the hour-long pit stop and driver change punctuated endurance race where the #19 Forsetti car again outperformed in Qualifying the #9 Racar AMR with Porter starting from pole position and with Martins third on the grid.
Despite a prolonged Safety Car for a stranded car on track, that would be the running order into the pit window as Porter stopped first but with Martins hanging it out till later. As the available pit window came to an end, Day quickly established the race lead with Faria having dropped to P4 before he suffered a technical issue that saw him slow on track before retiring in pit lane for another DNF of his GT4 Winter Series campaign.
For Day, he would maintain the gap from those chasing to complete another triple podium visiting race weekend that keeps his and Porter Championship hopes very much alive as the series moves onto Jerez in early February.

Aston Martins triumph again in Iberian Supercars return at Jerez
Welcoming back the class leading #007 Araujo Competicao Aston Martin of Alvaro Ramos and Fernando Soares, for this return to racing after their summer break also saw the first running of the #777 Alexandre Martin and Rubin Vaquinhas.
With not just Portimao in Portugal having exclusivity of the rain down in southern Europe over the weekend, Jerez also saw plenty of the wet stuff during their race day on Sunday which saw the #007 crew take a double GTX class win to virtually secure that class with one race weekend remaining with a 100% track record.
Not letting them have all the fun, the #777 managed a similarly impressive P2 finish in class after Race 1 before just missing out on the double in race two where the Portuguese drivers had to be done with a P4 finish.
The final round of the season takes place at Estoril at the end of November.

Araujo Competicao latest Aston Martin Vantage GT4 finally revealed
With one Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 already running within the SRO sanctioned series with great success so far for its crew and Araujo Competicao team, that we have confirmed that the teams second Aston Martin will be for their Portuguese racer Ruben Vaquinhas once the season gets back to business.
Having already raced within the series with a Araujo Competicao McLaren 570s, Vaquinhas confirmed that "Aston Martin is like a good watch or a good wine, it presents cars for great connoisseurs. Furthermore, I have a particularly special connection with the brand, as my initial experience with a sportscar involved one of their cars. I hold a deep affection for the brand, and now, with the support of Aston Martin Lisboa, I take immense pride in representing it. Additionally, the Vantage AMR GT4 has already demonstrated its high level of competitiveness, providing me with a sense of performance assurance” were the grounds for his platform selection.
"This year, being my first season in motorsport, my primary objective is to learn and develop rather than solely focus on achieving specific outcomes. My goal is to solidify my understanding and accumulate valuable experience. Looking ahead to the next season, I aspire to adopt a more ambitious stance and progress towards contending for victories within my division. Despite being aware of the formidableopponents I'll face, I aim to take that stride forward", concluded Ruben Vaquinhas.
He still has some time to prepare himself for this AMR debut as the next round of the series is not until late October at Jerez.
