Friday, February 19, 2016

Darren Turner will race the #95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE in 2016, making the switch from the #97 car to jump in the ‘Dane Train’ where he joins Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen.

Turner will race the 2016 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE in the full FIA World Endurance Championship, which counts the Le Mans 24 Hours as its blue riband event.

“I’m excited to be joining the Danes in #95,” said Turner. “I’ve raced against both of them so I know how fast they are. There is a really good feeling in the team at the moment. It will be a refreshed and reinvigorated Aston Martin Racing team that you will see at Silverstone in April.”

2016 will be Turner’s 12th year with Aston Martin Racing. His loyalty to the team was rewarded last summer when he was the first driver to be signed up for the coming seasons.

“The Aston Martin Racing team is home to me,” explained Turner. “People have come and gone over the years but the team spirit has remained the same. We race to win every time. I’m very excited about the team’s new partnership with TOTAL and Dunlop and looking forward to seeing the results of this in our on-track performance.”

The 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship starts with Aston Martin’s home race at Silverstone in April.  In May the team heads to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for the Six Hours of Spa, which is traditionally the warm up race for the Le Mans 24 Hours the following month.  The Six Hours of Nürburgring in Germany follows Le Mans before the teams go global with a new race in Mexico and then the U.S., Japan, China and Bahrain.

“With the addition of a race in Mexico, which expands the championship to nine races, it shows the momentum that is behind the FIA World Endurance Championship,” said Turner. “I think we all have an exciting season ahead of us.”
