DeBoer prepares early for SRO America 2024

Tuesday, October 31, 2023

No need to panic as this sale of former The Racers Group Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 is simply the next step by the team as ‘resident’ driver Derek DeBoer plans ahead for 2024.

Having acquired the former and then recently rebuilt Ian Lacey – Frank Gannett/Drew Staveley car over the run up to this season, the Kevin Buckler led TRG team rekindled their association with Aston Martin Racing as they and DeBoer stepped up a gear from GT4 competition of late to replace the Ian Lacey team within the SRO America GT World Challenge America Series during 2023.

Initially partnered with AMR factory driver Ross Gunn, DeBoer also received early cross-over training from fellow AMR factory driver Valentin Hasse-Clot and with Gunn being quickly double booked for his IMSA responsibilities, it was the young Frenchman who guided DeBoer through to the Pro-Am class podium on more than one occasion for much of the season.

At the final round of the season at Indianapolis earlier this month, DeBoer confirmed his intention to return to the series in 2024 but with the new ‘Evo’ version of the AMR Vantage GT3 that is still within its later/homologatory stages of development today.

Presumably (?) upon the advice of one or two close to the team who have driven this new race car, DeBoer has placed his existing car up for sale to make room for the delivery of this new model within the next few months as the 2024 season kicks off again in Sonoma in April.

The GTE class bows out after this weekends season 11 ending FIA WEC eight hours of Bahrain

Tuesday, October 31, 2023

The most successful GT racing car in the history of Aston Martin, the Vantage GTE, will make its final appearance in contemporary motorsport this weekend, as the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) concludes at the Bahrain International Circuit, in Sakhir.

Through its various derivatives, Vantage has been an ever-present in the WEC since scoring a podium finish in its inaugural event in 2012. It has recorded an incredible 52 class wins and claimed 11 world championship titles in that time.

With the WEC’s current LMGTE regulations coming to an end after this weekend’s finale, to be replaced in 2024 by the new LMGT3 rules for which a forthcoming evolution of Aston Martin’s Vantage GT3 will be eligible, fans in Bahrain will witness the end of an incredible era of sportscar racing; one full of astonishing success for Vantage.

Fresh from its announcement as the works partner team for Aston Martin’s return to the top class of WEC with the Valkyrie hypercar in 2025, Heart of Racing prepares to end its debut campaign in the series on a high. Having taken over the #98 NorthWest AMR entry at Spa-Francorchamps in May, this year’s Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona GTD class winner has team principal Ian James (GBR), Daniel Mancinelli (ITA) and Alex Riberas (ESP) behind the wheel.

TF Sport, the 2022 world champion and this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans runner-up, will be spearheaded in Bahrain by the #25 ORT by TF Vantage raced by Ahmad Al Harthy – the first Omani driver to score a WEC pole position at Spa-Francorchamps earlier this year. As usual he is partnered by Michael Dinan (USA) and Aston Martin works driver Charlie Eastwood (IRL), the LM GTE Am class winner at Le Mans in 2020.

As well as running its own car, TF Sport assists Japanese team D’station Racing, which features a new face driving the #777 Vantage in Bahrain. With team owner Satoshi Hoshino (JPN) unavailable due to commitments elsewhere, Australian Liam Talbot – the current leader of GT World Challenge Australia and a former GT World Challenge Europe Endurance champion – will make his WEC debut. He partners team regulars Tomonobu Fujii (JPN) and Casper Stevenson (GBR).

All three teams aim to give the Vantage GTE a fitting send-off to an 11-year, 85-race (including Bahrain) WEC career that has featured an incredible 11 world titles, 52 individual wins and five class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

AMR’s Darren Turner (GBR), Stefan Mücke (DEU) and Adrian Fernandez (MEX) began the legend with a GTE Pro podium finish in third place at the inaugural WEC race; the 12 Hours of Sebring (USA), in 2012 on what was the debut of the Vantage V8. A maiden victory followed at the season-ending race at the Shanghai International Circuit in China for Turner and Mücke. One year later and AMR recorded its first WEC title with Vantage when British duo Jamie Campbell-Walter and Stuart Hall took the GTE Am drivers’ crown.

Vantage’s first Le Mans win – to add to the back-to-back GT class victories for the DBR9 GT1 at La Sarthe in the previous decade – came in 2014 when ‘Dane Train’ trio Kristian Poulsen, David Heinemeier Hansson and Nicki Thiim succeeded in GTE Am. Poulsen and Heinemeier Hansson made it back-to-back Drivers’ Championships for Vantage later the same season, as well as AMR securing the Teams’ crown.

It was Thiim’s turn to taste title glory two years later, in 2016. He and another Dane, Marco Sørensen, took the by-then upgraded Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE to the GTE Pro class world championship crown and confirmed the Teams’ honours for Aston Martin Racing. There was further success for Vantage in the European Le Mans Series [ELMS] that year as British trio Andrew Howard, Alex Macdowall and Turner won the LMGTE title with Aston Martin Racing securing the Teams’ crown. Over the years Vantage scored a total of four wins in the ELMS GTE class.

The final flourish for the second-generation V8 Vantage GTE came in 2017 as long-time Aston Martin racer Paul Dalla Lana (CDN), Pedro Lamy (POR) and Mathias Lauda (AUT) won the GTE Am Drivers’ and Teams’ crown and Aston Martin Racing team-mates Jonny Adam (GBR), Daniel Serra (BRA) and Turner scored a famous GTE Pro success over long-time rival Corvette at Le Mans.

The current-specification Vantage GTE, a prototype version of the British-built race car derived from Aston Martin’s critically-acclaimed ultra-luxury sportscar, which shares the same aluminium body-frame and a specially-tuned version of the four-litre V8 turbo-charged production engine, made its debut at the beginning of the 2018-19 WEC ‘Super Season’ and has since set new standards for GT racing.

Having won twice in its inaugural campaign, Thiim and Sørensen clinched their second GTE Pro title in 2019/20. Aston Martin were crowned FIA GT Manufacturers’ World Champions on the same day when Maxime Martin (BEL), Alex Lynn (GBR) and Harry Tincknell (GBR) won the GTE Pro class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and TF Sport’s Salih Yoluç (TUR), Charlie Eastwood (IRL) and Adam did likewise in GTE Am.

A further GTE Am victory at Le Mans followed in 2022 as TF Sport again triumphed with Ben Keating (USA), Henrique Chaves (POR) and Sørensen. It was not quite the end though, as in an incredible year Keating and Sørensen also became FIA GTE Am Drivers’ World Champions and TF secured the Teams’ crown. TF Sport’s outstanding contribution also ensured that Aston Martin won more GTE Am victories more than any other manufacturer in WEC history. With one race left to go, that tally stands at 32 wins…

Aston Martin’s Head of Endurance Racing, Adam Carter, said: “Aston Martin has been one of the pillars of the World Endurance Championship since the very foundation of the category, and through the GTE class, Vantage has set an exceptional standard for others to follow.

“Just as racing has always been in our brand’s DNA, enduring performance is a core value that has shone brightly through the entire GTE era where Vantage is concerned. On behalf of Aston Martin, I would like to offer our sincerest thanks to all those who have raced Vantage in the GTE era, to all of our partners who have run programmes through it or contributed to it, and to all the people who have worked so hard on the project through its life-span. We know that what comes next is an intensely exciting period in sportscar racing, both in the hypercar class and also the new LMGT3 class, and we intend to play our own role in that, but for now, let’s soak in the final flourish of a glorious category that has given back so much to Aston Martin.”

The BAPCO 8 Hours of Bahrain begins at 1400 local time (1000 GMT) on Saturday 4 November, and finishes under floodlights as night encroaches. Practice and qualifying take place on Thursday and Friday respectively.

News from Asia today

Wednesday, October 25, 2023

Some brief news from Asia as it appears that the Douglas Khoo ran Viper Niza racing team have had a change of heart ahead of this year’s Asian Le Mans Series that starts in Sepang in just over a months’ time.

Having originally been listed as returning to the ACO rules series with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3, the team have just confirmed that they will now be entering their older Ligier LMP3 instead.

Having just been to the UK to sample the new Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 Evo at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago, this is something of a surprise move from the team albeit one where this new iteration of race car would not qualify to be ran within the ALMS until next season.

That leaves the D’Station Racing and TF Sport teams flying the AMR flags with their entries for Satoshi Hoshino and John Hartshorne with further drivers not being confirmed until nearer the season opener in December.

Then in Macau – unfortunately we still don’t see the return of an Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 powered entry within the coveted FIA GT World Cup event around the notoriously tight street circuit, but we do have one Aston Martin listed within one of the support races.

Having first learned of a new relationship between AMR and the Earl Bamber Motorsport team at the recent Thailand Super Series support race for the F1 around the street circuit of Singapore with a Vantage GT4, the Greater Bay Area GT Cup (GT3) support race entry list does!

Entered under the Earl Bamber Motorsport team name, Indonesian gentleman driver Anderson Tanoto is listed with that (so far un-numbered) entry.

In a somewhat fragmented racing career alongside that of his business ventures, Tanoto has raced an AMR Vantage GT4’s before with the Stoner Car Care (Automatic Racing) team during the 2021 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge visit to the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca where he shared that car with AMR Asia representative Weiron Tan. Since then, he racing commitments have been limited to just three starts within the SRO America GT4 America Series with a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4.

The 70th Macau Grand Prix weekend takes place over the 11th – 19th November.

Aston Martins triumph again in Iberian Supercars return at Jerez

Tuesday, October 24, 2023

It was a successful return to the Iberian Supercars Series for the now, two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crews as the GT4/TCR based grid ran for the first time at Jarama in early June around the Spanish circuit of Jerez.

Welcoming back the class leading #007 Araujo Competicao Aston Martin of Alvaro Ramos and Fernando Soares, for this return to racing after their summer break also saw the first running of the #777 Alexandre Martin and Rubin Vaquinhas.

With not just Portimao in Portugal having exclusivity of the rain down in southern Europe over the weekend, Jerez also saw plenty of the wet stuff during their race day on Sunday which saw the #007 crew take a double GTX class win to virtually secure that class with one race weekend remaining with a 100% track record.

Not letting them have all the fun, the #777 managed a similarly impressive P2 finish in class after Race 1 before just missing out on the double in race two where the Portuguese drivers had to be done with a P4 finish.

The final round of the season takes place at Estoril at the end of November.

And the low side of motorsport bites hard with two AMR teams

Tuesday, October 24, 2023

Whilst there was celebration within two Aston Martin Racing powered teams after Championship winning success in both the ADAC GT4 Germany and Michelin Le Mans Cup Series, there were also the complete opposites within another two as they were left to contemplate upon what might have been.

In Japan, the D’Station Racing team again fielded it Aston Martin Vantage GT8R within the penultimate round of their domestic Super Taikyu Series at Okayama. Needing nothing less than a class win to keep their ST-1 Class hopes alive, the #47 car of Tatsuya Hoshino, Max Orido, Kenji Hama, and Jake Parsons again came second to the #2 KS Frontier KTM X-Bow crew at the end of that three-hour race.

That meant that the class battle was lost even before the series reached their home circuit at Fuji Speedway so in a twist of plan, the team have this week confirmed that just Orido and fresh driver Nobutera Taniguchi will race the final round at Fuji in mid-November.

With this, we just wonder if that selection is just some pre-cursor selection of drivers ahead of their recently confirmed return to the top-flight Super GT Series next season?

Then in Barcelona, the Belgian based Street Art Racing team returned to the Circuit de Catalunya for the final round of the International GT Open Series with their artfully decorated Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 that Pascal Bachman and Jahid Fazal Karim share within the Am Class.

Never Championship contenders mainly through their none, full season attendance for starters and then Karim’s first year within the GT3 for second, their long trip to Spain would be a painfully short one as the #007 car failed to start either race of the season finale.

Quoting heavy vibrations during Friday Practice into Saturday Qualifying, it was later found that one of the cars front engine support mounts had been damage and a large crack was developing as they clocked in the practice laps. With the repair time so long (not sure if the team even had the parts available to them), it was decided to wrap up their somewhat disjointed season from within their Spanish garage and consider what be around the corner for them next season.

An Aston Martin of many guises

Monday, October 23, 2023

Whilst we wait to see the latest evolution of the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 race car to hit the track of Portimao in Portugal for a two-day Goodyear tyre test, a few conversation points over the weekend certainly put ‘some more meat onto the bones’ for us regarding the car’s finer detail.

With all GT based race cars heavily homologated against it’s road car equivalent, we understand that the timing and secrecy around this test and development programme has indeed been hindered/delayed by the requirements of that road car equivalent pushing back the timings of this new race car.

With that development having started just over a year ago when both Ross Gunn and Maxime Martin hit the tracks of southern Europe testing what turned out to be hidden, internal components of the car, that rate of development only recently ramped up to a position where visual details of the car were only allowed to be released at a recent track testing event at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago.

In between these test sessions (which have usually been abroad) a similar hard sell effort to that of the 2018 variant has also been underway with countless Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE/GT3 team owners already having sampled the goods. This week’s two-day event in Portugal will be no different with similar Customer and Partner team participation expected.

Whilst the exact technical detail remains a closely guarded secret, we understand that it would be fair to say that all bar the doors and the roof has been changed as each corner and full aero package has been revisited and revised into what we see today. We also understand that the engine and gearbox remain unchanged – mechanically at least although we would expect some form of digital remastering of its controlling software to come into play to cater for this new cars apparent performance improvements.

When asked about any 2024 racing endeavours, one team owner remarked that it was already his car down in Portugal and when we looked at what was on offer at Donington, that was indeed chassis 16A-22-2, the chassis we take it that was written off after an incident last season at Paul Ricard which had to be rebuilt in time for the Spa 24 and not his usual platform.

That means that we already know about the test and development chassis down in Portimao as that car was the original 2017 GTE test bed before being converted into the 2018 GT3 test bed, first seen in public at the Le Mans Festival with Ross Gunn before being run by the Beechdean AMR team and Andrew Howard as his latest  R&D car acquisition from Prodrive.

Was it better than the current model we asked? – “oh, yer!” was the answer, along with a massive smile!

Three Aston Martins wrap up another exciting season of British GT at the #DoningtonDecider

Monday, October 23, 2023

Another thoroughly eventful British GT Championship #DoningtonDecider was witnessed yesterday as fate and circumstance threw everything that it had at the various GT3 and GT4 championship contenders at that now customary final round of the season.

Luckily or not (depending upon which way around you view things) neither of the two full season Aston Martin Racing powered teams were in with a shout this time around but both crews took experience of that situation which made for a more ‘heads up approach’ for those around them who were.

Having both secure their respective class pole positions on Saturday, the #97 Beechdean AMR Vantage GT3 of Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn was quickly penalised for what the series said was about not completing the minimum number of laps during that session for their times to stand.

Whilst the #23 R-Racing Vantage GT4 crew of Josh Miller and Seb Hopkins set about their preparations for their final race together, the Beechdean Team Manager and Howard were to have an early visit to the Stewards off upstairs during which they would discuss (not necessarily over coffee and biscuits) their situation as they saw it.

Not wanting to affect the championship aspirations of others racing for the ultimate prize, Howard said that he wouldn’t go racing whilst ‘under appeal’ and would accept the penalty imposed if it came to it – but it turned out that that position wouldn’t be required as their appeal was successful and the #97 would be starting from pole just one more time.

It was indeed fortunate that neither full season Aston was in championship contention as Safety Car intervention after Safety Car intervention shortened the already quick two-hour affair into something much less and with crews building up a gap each time only for them to disappear again must have been more than nerve racking.

Whilst the #97 soon had the Century BMW GT3 pass it for the lead, Howard was circulating a comfortable second whilst Miller was showing off what he did best by being the best of the GT4 runners throughout his opening stint and despite the multiple race restarts.

Having been hindered by the GT4 pack at the hairpin, Howard was eventually ‘relieved’ of his P2 position by a couple of cars onto the start straight just fifteen minutes from his intended pit window. With both the #97 and #23 having an additional fifteen seconds added to their minimum pits stop time thanks to their P2 finishes last time out at Brands Hatch, their lofty positions with this race would quickly diminish at their stops.

Losing out even more thanks to their silver/silver pairing was of course the #23 car as whilst the #97 car of Gunn was soon able to recover from its P10 position after the stop to gain places as the final hour of the season ticked by, the #23 car was not, and their season would end with frustration written all over Hopkins face at the end.

Eventually finishing P6 overall, the 2023 British GT Championship campaign would come to another end for them with a P6 Claim with the overall GT3 Drivers and Pro-Am Drivers Championship and P5 within the Team’s title hunt. For the #23 R-Racing crew, 2023 would become a bitter pill for them to swallow after what nearly was last season, eventually finishing P23 overall/P6 in class on the day and P7 within the overall GT4 Drivers, P5 within their Silver Cup class and P6 within the GT4 Team’s Championship.

It wasn’t to be this season but then you can’t have your own way all the time. It’s been mighty fun watching the Championship again this year and we hope to be back again next season. Whilst some teams may return next year, others sadly wont as seek adventures elsewhere and having already sold their car to another interested party as well!

Not to forget the ‘guesting’ #31 MKH Racing AMR Vantage GT4 of Ron Johnson and Tom Ingram, they too had an eventful Donington debut together where they only interacted with both the team and car for the first time on Thursday. Whilst it may have been ‘just a bit of fun’ together for the drivers, it was a very much a dipping of a toe into the British GT waters for team as they explore racing possibilities moving forward after a decent debut season within the British Endurance Championship where they finished second in class.

Just for the record, whilst the #31 car did Qualify last, they did manage to finish the race in P27 overall / P6 in class despite having spun off once or twice along the way. Judging by their faces after the event – it was a job well done for all of them.

Championships earned over the weekend

Monday, October 23, 2023

It was to be another Championship winning weekend as two Aston Martin Racing powered crews finally claimed their coveted titles after another season of highly competitive European based motorsport with their Vantage GT3 and GT4 machinery.

In Germany, the #1 Prosport Racing Vantage GT4 entry of Mike David Ortmann and Hugo Sasse made something of championship history as they retained their overall ADAC GT4 Germany crown with the same line up, car and team as they did last season.

Entering the final round of six round season at Hockenheim, the #1 crew retained a sizeable forty-three-point lead within the Driver’s Championship so only a catastrophic disaster would have stood in their way.

Unphased by that pressure, the #1 duo managed to get the job done by the end of Saturday’s opening race where they converted a pole position start into a P6 finish, enough points to seal the deal with one race remaining. Not being satisfied with that, they then Qualified again on the front row to round the season off with yet another podium finish in P3 to see their year out very much on a high.

However, despite their dominance on track, the team failed to win the Team’s Championship title, eventually finishing second to the Avia W&S Motorsport team by just thirteen points.

Then in Portugal, the #10 Racing Spirit of Leman crew of Arnold Robin and Valentin Hasse-Clot managed to claim the top honour within the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series as the French duo toughed it out around the rain soaked Autodromo do Algarve circuit to claim the GT3 title.

Having already experienced varying track conditions throughout the weekend thanks to their dual European Le Mans Series endeavours, Robin was still able to Qualify his car third in class despite the deluge that interrupted that session.

An early Sunday morning start behind the Safety Car (thanks to the latest weather system that passed the circuit by) saw the forty-car grid eventually take up the pace under some atrocious conditions with Arnold again completing the opening stint at very much a conservative pace.

Handing over the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 to Hasse-Clot for the closing stint, the weather again closed in bringing out the red flag with just over the ninety minutes completed. That would soon be called the result with the #10 finishing the race in second, enough for them to also claim the GT3 Driver’s title by twenty points from the #51 Ferrari winning the GT3 Team’s title by the same margin too.

Congratulations to all concerned.

Racing Spirit of Leman looking for Le Mans Cup GT3 glory in Portimao tomorrow

Saturday, October 21, 2023

Tomorrow morning sees one Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 team race their final event of the season with clear Championship aspirations as the #10 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 car of Arnold Robin and Valentin Hasse-Clot do so at Portimao.

Racing within the GT3 class of the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series sees the #10 car retain a slender twelve-point point lead going into tomorrow’s final race around what is expected to be a rain-soaked Portuguese circuit.

Having already raced at the circuit once this weekend within the European Le Mans Series (with another four-hour round of that Series tomorrow to round off that season) saw the French duo run a very calculated build up again into this LMC race despite finishing fastest again in both Free Practice sessions earlier this weekend.

Going into today’s Qualifying, the rain again returned to the circuit just as the GT3 cars left pit lane and another spinning car (or two), like at Spa Francorchamps last time out again brought out an early red flag. That at least allowed the GT3 grid to change to full wet tyres for the remainder of their session which saw all the remaining crews exercise caution.

Such was the deterioration of track conditions between class Qualifying sessions at the end results saw the fastest two GT3 cars secure the front row for tomorrow overall grid with the #10 car listed P7 overall as well, well within the midst of the LMP3 field!!

Eventually finishing third fastest for tomorrows race, the biggest issue moving forward will be the weather for tomorrows championship deciding race which starts early at 09:00hrs local.

Game on !!

D'Station Racing needing a class win to bolster their Super Taikyu efforts this weekend

Saturday, October 21, 2023

The Japanese Super Taikyu Series runs its penultimate round of the season as the multi-classed series undertake another three-hour round at Okayama with the D'Station Racing team again entering their Aston Martin Vantage GT8R within the ST-1 class.

Running in just a two-car class, the #47 car featuring Tatsuya Hoshino, Max Orido, Kenji Hama and Jake Parsons are again in the business of trying to limit the so far dominant KTM crew from clinching the ST-1 class Championship ahead of the season finale at Fuji next month.

Double pole positions for Aston Martin runners at British GT finale from Donington

Saturday, October 21, 2023

The British GT Championship near annual #DoningtonDecider continues to live up to its expected level of excitement after Mother Nature threw a curved ball to the thirty-four listed runners with wet and damp becoming the main question for the teams to answer.

Having raced recent rounds both at home and abroad, establishing and maintaining tyre temperature had never really an issue since pre-season and the earlier rounds until Storm Babet had its say over much of the UK.

Despite data gained from this weeks earlier test at Donington Park, todays start to the more formally timed sessions saw a wet to damp to drying track conditions for the combined GT3 and GT4 crews with the #97 Beechdean AMR Vantage GT3 of Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn leading the way at the top of the timing screen.

That was a similar vein back within the GT4 class as the #27 R-Racing AMR Vantage GT4 of Josh Miller and Seb Hopkins became the third fastest crew in class, making their many recent laps of testing around the Donington circuit pay dividends. The guesting #31 MKH Racing AMR Vantage Gt4 of Ron Johnson and Tom Ingram didn’t have that knowledge base as this week was their first experience of the car/crew/circuit together.

Free Practice 2 went no different at the top as the #97 continued to dominate (thanks to no championship pressures on their shoulders this weekend) although both the #27 and #31 cars did drop with lap times being deleted for track limits.

Then Qualifying became the next focus of attention as the amateurs within the GT3 class were first out on was then a damp to drying track. Going out on slicks, coming in to change those slicks because of vibration saw Howard enter pit lane for a third time, this time for wets with just over three minutes of his session remaining. Eventually getting just one hot lap with those wet tyres thanks to a session ending hit into the pit all for a McLaren, that was still enough for Howard to claim provisional top slot with the GT3 Qualifying being placed under investigation by Race Control.

Next out were the Pro drivers with Gunn selecting slicks aboard the #97 car ass the sun made another one of its periodic passes above. Holding the aggregated best time for the opening half of the session, the #1 Mercedes AMG crew snatched that lead with just over three minutes remaining. With just twenty-nine seconds remaining, Gunn recovers that three tenths deficit to reclaim P1 with another lap still available to him to eventually see out the session fifth quickest but fastest overall in GT3 for a Pole Position start tomorrow afternoon.

Next out were the GT4’s with Miller and Johnson doing the business first time round (the #23 do run this season within the silver class so both Miller and Hopkins are of the same grade). First out and eager to get on with things saw Miller finish fastest by the slenderest of margins, just 0.03 of as second in front of the #36 Championship contending McLaren. Johnson would return to the Championship with a bump after a spin in both Free Practice and Qualifying saw him post the slowest time.

Like Miller, Hopkins was first out and keen to get on with things to see his final qualifying of his second season of British GT underway although his haste would again come at a cost as the #23 then started losing lap times for track limits.

Despite finishing nineth in his session, his lap time was still good enough to keep the #23 at the head of the class whilst the #31 MKH Aston Martin of Tom Ingram would finish second overall in session, albeit still at the foot of the table.

Morning warm up tomorrow morning before the start of the season finale starting at 13:00hrs local. No championship pressures this weekend like we say whilst others obviously do within both GT3 and GT4 classes. It will be exciting!!
