Appears 2021 will finish along similar lines as to how it started

Saturday, November 27, 2021

The 2021 motor racing season started with continuing restrictions in track attendance and travel and it sadly looks like it will see out the year that way as well as the last two major GT series of the year suffer further effects of the continuing global situation.

Whilst we were not expecting to see any Aston Martin Racing powered teams there, yesterday should have seen the entry list published for the fourth and final round (having already been scaled back for the same reason) of the Intercontinental GT Challenge next weekend from Kyalami in South Africa.

Instead, we received confirmation of an indefinite postponement of that round due to fresh travel restrictions being imposed in and out of the country due to a new strain of CV-19 as the series assesses their options to move forward.

Earlier this week, we also had the entry list confirmed for the final round of the GT World Challenge Australia Series at Bathurst next week.

Again, another series heavily impacted by continuing CV-19 related travel restrictions within the country meaning that Tony Quinn and his #7 Local Legends V8 Powered AMR Vantage GT3 cannot be at the event to see out his Am Class Championship challenge from his third position and being just five points in arrears going into this final round.

Additionally, we have also seen a change of heart from the Mike Bailey/Trading Garage team as they swap from their V12 AMR Vantage GT3 to a Bentley GT3 Continental in the GT Trophy Series.

Smitten by both British built GT3 race cars, we understand that this was just a matter of preference between the two chassis for Bailey at Bathurst as he still retains more than one V12 platform back home!!

Good luck to them anyway!

Racing Spirit of Leman confirm their two Aston Martin FFSA GT4 and GT4 European effort in 2022

Saturday, November 27, 2021

Michelin Le Mans Cup LMP3 team Racing Spirit of Leman yesterday become the latest team in a (hopefully) long line of many to confirm a new pathway for next season along with Aston Martin Racing as their supplier of choice for an extended 2022 season expected to consist of both the FFSA GT4 Series in France and the GT4 European Series wider afield with the AMR Vantage GT4.

Having already taken delivery of one of their two new AMR Vantage GT4’s at the start of the month, it was straight into winter testing for the Swiss based team with a two-day test at Le Castellet alongside another new AMR convertee in GPA Racing and the now established AGS Events Racing team with their four Aston’s between them.

Confirming the two car joint SRO Series programme for next season, the Patrick Barbier ran team also confirmed Swiss racer Konstantin Lachenauer as their first confirmed driver after his impressive performances in the GT4 European Series last season with AGS Events Racing.

Speaking with those at the Prodrive factory, the team’s second GT4 is due to be shipped out over the turn on the year and is part of a considerable ramp up in car production at the facility that now sees their technicians working well into the night to get a 'significant number' of new GT4 platforms out to their new clients around the world in time for pre-season testing.

We also understand that there will be further announcements from teams, either expanding their AMR commitment or teams (like Racing Spirit of Leman) moving across to Aston Martin Racing, as early as next week.

Three out of four Aston Martin's so far confirmed for the Dubai 24

Wednesday, November 24, 2021

Today’s news from TF Sport regarding their Pro-Am Class Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 entry in January’s 24H Series Dubai 24hr now places names behind three of the so far four Aston Martin’s presently listed upon the race’s provisional entry list.

Long term Creventic series racers in the UAE based Moutran brothers sees them re-joining forces Charlie Eastwood as well as experienced GT3 racer Sam De Haan, making for a potent force within the GT3 Pro-Am class which presently stands at twelve cars.

Joining them in that class shall be the PROsport Racing AMR Vantage GT3 crew of season long PROsport Racing clients of Maxime and Guillaume Dumarey alongside their Am drivers Jean Glorieux and Simon Balcaen.

Looking at the previous racing experience of all these drivers above, obviously with the exception of both Eastwood and De Haan, all the others appear set to travel to Dubai in the New Year to race in an AMR Vantage GT3 for the first time!

In the GT4 class, German based PROsport Racing also return to Dubai with one of their Aston Martin Vantage GT4’s that another set of their long-standing clients will again race. Last seen out sweeping the board in the Ultimate Speed Cup finale at Estoril has Rodrique Gillion again joining forces with driver coach and ‘resident’ team professional Nico Verdonck as well a another Dumarey – this time Guido aboard the #401 car.

Achieving parity in both the GT3 and GT4 classes but as yet without a confirmed drive line up, has the Heart of Racing team return to the 24H Series for another 24 hour after their heartache last weekend when a late gearbox failure saw them loose a class podium at the Sebring 24hr with just two hours remaining.

That is the expected entry for January’s event as of today, but as with any provisional entry list, we expect to see some manoeuvre on that over the next fifty days.

New clients take 'go to' team TF Sport to the 2022 Dubai 24Hr with one of their AMR GT3's

Wednesday, November 24, 2021

Creventic regulars, Duel Racing, have teamed up with UK-based TF Sport, to compete in the 2022 Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai GT3 Pro-Am class, in the #95 Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

Brothers Ramzi, Nabil and Sami Moutran will be joined by Charlie Eastwood and silver-graded Sam De Haan. Eastwood previously tackled the 24 Hours of Dubai with the UAE-based brothers, where they claimed victory in the 991 Cup class in 2019.

Whilst the Moutrans are well known to the Creventic events, scoring multiple podiums and victories over the years, TF Sport will be making their 24H Series debut in January and will be looking to add to their twice-around-the-clock win tally, adding to their 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Spa first place-finishes.

Sami Moutran from Duel Racing - “As Duel Racing, we have been involved in the 24H Series’ events for many years and had our fair share of success, winning two championships outright. We have been fortunate enough to have class wins at the Dubai 24 hours in both a Seat and a Porsche 991. When we decided to step up to the top category the choice of partner was a relatively straight-forward one, we were looking for a team that could bring the same level of competitive spirit, winning culture and family values that we as Duel Racing have always had.

TF Sport is at the top of the GT3 game, and that's exactly where we want to be. Add to that, the opportunity to partner with Charlie again and having Sam on board, it was a no brainer. Let's see what happens when we put two championship winning outfits together!”

The ‘night and day’ livery which dons the Aston Martin GT3 is based on Duel Racing’s 2015 24H Series championship-winning colours.

AMR's latest GT4 recruit testing already ahead of 2022 plans

Monday, November 22, 2021

Just one weekend after announcing their transition from Ginetta Junior racing through to GT4 racing in the British GT Championship next season had Josh Miller and R Racing up at Donington Park today sampling something of what was to come.

With the help of TF Sport and the temporary loan of what was Connor O’Brien and Patrick Kibble’s 2020 entered Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4, had Miller get some early mileage in with his new chosen stead all under the watchful eye of Phil Glew and Matt George.

Having spoken with the team, this test with TF Sport was something of a matter of convenience and information learning curve as the R Racing team develop their early knowledge of the AMR GT4 platform prior to their new chassis arriving over the winter.

Still no news on a co-driver!

Uno Racing do themselves proud as they take their AMR GT3's to Macau

Monday, November 22, 2021

With the street circuit lined Armco barrier being as unforgiving as usual, the 68th running of the Macau Grand Prix was just as a bruising affair at it usually is for the nineteen strong entry that competed in the Sands China Macau GT Cup races at the weekend.

Featuring two Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3’s from the Uno Racing team, this event was the first time that the latest generation of AMR Vantage GT3 had competed in the event since 2015 when three V12 examples raced for the then AMR powered Craft Bamboo team.

Well fashioned in livery designs from the two Oriental fashion houses, their #38 car was driven by long term GT3 racer Marchy Lee whilst their #91 car was driven by David Pun, a Gentleman driver who had stepped up to GT3 racing only this season within the Chinese GTSSC Series.

Competing against some more experienced and hardened racers, their short Qualifying session allowed them to Qualify P7 and P9 respectively for Saturday afternoon’s shorter eight lap race of the Sands China Macau GT Cup. The earlier warm up however, was marred by a big impact for the #17 Audi R8 which resulted in one destroyed car, significant barrier damage and sadly multiple chest injuries for the driver.

Down to eighteen starters for Race 1, a street circuit layout again confirmed just how hard it was to pass as both Aston’s initially dropped back before recovering again to run together just behind the lead pack in P5 and P6 overall before an engine failure for a Lamborghini going into Lisboa curtailed the race as the approaching P2 Mercedes AMG GT3 of former AMR racer Darryl O’Young spun off and crashed into the barrier from the dropped fluid.

The race was red flagged at this point and then quickly conformed as not restarting at the track curfew and release back into public use approached – P5 for Lee and P6 for Pun were later confirmed.

Those results were then used to form the starting grid for the twelve-lap race finale on Sunday and it was another feisty start for the grid as Marchy Lee ran three wide into Lisboa but was lucky to come out the other side in one piece leaving the two Astons again running line astern in P6 and P7 by the end of the first lap.

With the top four cars again breaking away with a big gap then back to Lee, drama again soon unfolded as first a Mercedes contacted the barrier and stopped on track before another Lamborghini hit the barrier harder at another part of the circuit.

Further debris from a tyre blow out on a Porsche lead to the need for a Safety car to help clear the circuit to allow at least a last lap dash to the flag from where Lee finished just the overall podium in P4 with Pun just behind in P5 overall but P3 in his CAMF Class to mark a fine return of the brand to the Macau scene.

Congratulations to all involved.

Two AMR Vantage GT3's get set to compete at Macau

Thursday, November 18, 2021

Tomorrow sees that start of the formal track proceedings ahead of the running of the 68th Macau Grand Prix this weekend around the distinctive street circuit of the semi-autonomous region of coastal China.

For the first time since a three-car effort back in 2015, this weekend’s event shall see the return of Aston Martin Racing’s latest Vantage GT3 platform, this time running in the hands of Uno Racing for their drivers David Pun and Marchy Lee.

With neither driver no stranger to the demands of the circuit and with the entry list for this weekend’s Sands China Macau GT Cup races being restricted to Chinese (and colony) nationals rather than being opened up to the wider audience for an FIA sanctioned event, the #38 car of Lee and the #91 car of Pun will face just as a good a chance within the two races as the next driver in the provisional 19 car grids.

Running just a 25-minute Free Practice session on Friday before a 25-minute Qualifying session later in the time, track time is obviously being limited around the 3.8 mile Guia street circuit for the Grand Prix’s six series programme.

Saturday will then see a brief warm up session before their first eight lap race that will start at 15:50hrs local before a further 12 lap race on Sunday at 13:10hrs local.

Both Aston Martin’s will be conspicuously liveried to represent the two fashion labels that a supporting the teams with Pun’s Evisu fashion empire (presently celebrating their 30th anniversary) supporting his #91 car with the Bathing Ape label supporting Lee’s #31 car.

As with any street circuit race, incident and accident is never too far away!!

The first of hopefully many new AMR team announcements

Thursday, November 18, 2021

We like surprises – and especially so during the long, drawn-out days and nights in-between the end of one season and the beginning of next so today’s unexpected news on social media was warmly welcome.

Having heard in recent weeks (from many sources inside of Aston Martin Racing and out), that AMR powered attendance in many GT3 and GT4 series across Europe would potentially increase in numbers for the 2022 season, the first of hopefully a long line of news announcements came through today to support that theory.

R-Racing, a team up until now more accustomed to running Ginetta Junior race cars has todays confirmed as taking the next logical step up the racing ladder with one of their young drivers into the GT4 class of racing and an entry into next season’s British GT Championship.

With only outline details being made available, today’s news confirmed that the team will be entering an AMR Vantage GT4 into next season’s British GT Championship with driver Josh Miller following two seasons in the Ginetta Junior Series for the 16-year-old from Kent.

No co-driver was announced today but with the team also taking on full Partner status with AMR, it could be another factory supported driver like Matt Topham had with factory driver Darren Turner this season which helped them to earn themselves their GT4 Pro-Am Championship after another thrilling season at Donington Park last month.

We like good news!!

Welcome to #TeamAMR

First win at Petit Le Mans for the AMR Vantage GT3 with the Heart of Racing team

Monday, November 15, 2021

Aston Martin’s Vantage GT3 recorded a glorious class victory in the US endurance classic Petit Le Mans thanks to partner team The Heart of Racing (THoR) and drivers Ian James (GBR), Ross Gunn (GBR) and Roman De Angelis (CDN).

Introduced in 1998, the 10-Hour race held at Road Atlanta, in Braselton, Georgia, represents the finale of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, North America’s premier endurance series. Over the years it has grown in stature and is now considered one of the most coveted prizes in GT and sportscar racing. For the Seattle-based THoR team, a hard-earned victory in the GTD class that went right to the wire in Saturday’s day-to-night event caps a brilliant season with the British luxury sportscar brand.

Powered by a four-litre, twin-turbo-charged V8 engine derived from the road car, THoR’s Vantage also recorded its first IMSA-sanctioned championship title in 2021. Gunn and AMR Driver Academy candidate De Angelis clinched the Sprint Cup GTD title at Long Beach, following race victories at Belle Isle and Lime Rock. But their Road Atlanta win marked the team’s first long distance race victory, and its most significant, at the highest level with Aston Martin.

The win also marked the first triumph for Aston Martin at Petit Le Mans since Darren Turner (GBR) and Tomáš Enge (CZE) led home Pedro Lamy (POR) and Stephane Sarrazin (FRA) in a famous one-two in the GT1 class for Aston Martin Racing with a brace of DBR9s in 2006.

Having started this year’s incident-packed event cautiously, James initially focussed on staying on the lead lap and running long stints to maximise track position before handing over to Gunn and De Angelis who went on the attack as the race ramped up into the night. Rarely out of the top three, Gunn and De Angelis were persistent front-runners. And following a superb final stint from the Canadian, Gunn was able to pit earlier than his rivals in the climactic run to the flag and soaked up the pressure from the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche in the final laps of the race. The victory ensured that the team and its drivers secured third in the overall GTD standings.

“This win means so much to everyone at The Heart of Racing and Aston Martin Racing,” said works driver Gunn after the race. “We’ve put a lot of time and energy into working with THoR, and the car and the team have been brilliant all season-long. For me personally it’s a career highlight to win my first major ‘blue riband’ race in the US, and for us as a team it proves what we are capable of, with the right equipment.”

THoR team principal and driver James added: “This is an awesome result and it’s a testament to all the hard-working and talented individuals we have in this team. The Aston Martin Vantage has proved to be a competitive machine all season, and today Roman and Ross were simply brilliant; they weren’t going to let anyone beat us, we were just on fire all day!”

John Gaw, Managing Director of Aston Martin Racing, said: “The second half of this season has proved emphatically just how much of a force the Aston Martin Vantage is in international GT racing at present. To win at Petit Le Mans, Aston Martin’s first win here in 15 years, is an outstanding achievement and an example of why the car is such a fierce competitor in the hands of our capable partners. Coming off the back of championship wins in Japan’s Super Taikyu series, British GTs and IMSA, as well as race victories in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship, and not forgetting the overall podium finish in the Spa 24 Hours, Vantage is now the equal of any machine at all levels of GT competition.”

A full house for PROsport Racing and a Class Championship for Team Virage at Estoril finale

Sunday, November 14, 2021

There were extraordinary events at the final round of the Ultimate Cup Series from Estoril, Portugal at the weekend for the two Aston Martin Racing runners that rounded their European seasons off on something of a high.

Part time season entrant Team Virage returned with their young Mexican and AMR Drivers Academy racer, Jose Antonio Ledesma as he joined his third different co-driver in the series (Xavier Follenfant) for the final endurance race on Sunday to decide the winner of that Championship.

Joining them in Portugal were the PROsport Racing pairing of Rodrique Gillion and his driver coach Nico Verdonck for some late season racing in both the series GT endurance and GT Sprint races, all in preparation ahead of their proposed entry into January’s 24H of Dubai.

Over the course of Saturday, both Gillion and Verdonck enjoyed a clean sweep of class wins across the four Kennol GT Touring Sprint races to then back that up with a joint class win in Sunday’s four-hour NAPA GT Touring Endurance race.

That obviously make for plenty of silverware for their flights home afterwards.

From the Team Virage side of things, Saturday didn’t go exactly to plan as an apparent heavy off for the Aston Martin during private practice made that unracable for Sunday’s finale, so in team family spirit they were able to borrow the other of PROsport Racing’s two AMR Vantage GT4’s from which Ledesma was able to follow the PROsport guys home second in class and that was enough for him to secure the Mexican the GT Endurance title.

A class win at Petit Le Mans rounds off an awesome 2021 for the Heart of Racing AMR team

Sunday, November 14, 2021

If you are going to finish off any motor racing season, then you may as well finish on something of a high with a race win at one of your series most prestigious events.

Having already secured the Sprint Cup in IMSA’s Weathertech Sportscar Championship, the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Racing Team also had an extremely slim chance at taking the overall GTD Class title at the final ten-hour event that was yesterday’s Motul Petit Le Mans.

Not pretending to have watched the entire drama that unfolded yesterday, we did watch the #23 AMR car of Ian James (starting driver) progress his #23 AMR car from near last on the grid through to near the top end of the class (on merit) before the halfway stage and before darkness took over the Road America circuit.

Luckily not be involved in the dramatic race restart crash that wiped out another four GTD class cars just before nightfall, James’s co-drivers Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis then shared driving duties to progress that advantage made on track to take and hold the class lead from that point forward to eventually take the class win by just under eight seconds from the chasing #9 Pfaff Motorsport Porsche.

Whilst that win, the first at Petit Le Mans for the new variant of turbo charged Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and AMR’s first since the heady DBR9 days of 2006, was also something in itself to be extremely proud in its own right for both the team and AMR factory back in England but sadly, it wasn’t enough for them to bridge that point divide to scoop the overall GTD Class title as well to make it an extra-ordinary double for the year.

That accolade went to the Pfaff team of Laurens Vanthoor and Zacharie Robichon with the #23 crew of De Angelis and Gunn finishing P3 in class by the end behind the Lamborghini crew of Madison Snow and Bryan Sellars.

A great achievement still for all concerned and well done to all.

Whilst the IMSA website now describes a racing sabbatical of just over two months before business starts up again with the 2022 Roar before the 24 test days at Daytona, Heart of Racing has its next exercise to overcome this weekend coming over at Sebring with the first continuous 24 hour running an inter Creventic/IMSA venture for the 24H Series event that will see one of the team’s AMR Vantage GT4’s compete there with drivers Roman De Angelis, Ian James, Gray Newell and Alex Riberas.

Volt Racing Aston Martin claim third in the Michelin Pilot Challenge after caution filled finale

Saturday, November 13, 2021

Up until this weekend, the IMSA sanctioned Michelin Pilot Challenge had provided us with nine cracking rounds of inter GT4 and TCR class racing but last night’s final two-hour round of the season around the picturesque circuit of Road Atlanta left us disappointed from a race spectacle although there was some final progress for one of the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 cars.

Going into the final race of 2021 were the full season #7 Volt Racing with Archangel AMR Vantage GT4 of Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman as well as the #23 Notlad Racing with Rennsport 1 AMR of Pat Gallagher and Stevan McAleer who came back to the series halfway through.

Both cars struggled this time in Qualifying and gave themselves some work to do during the race as the #23 claimed P6 and the #7 car P8 on the grid but every car stepped up one position after Qualifying as the pole setting Kohr Motorsport Mustang would not be taking the start for financial reasons.

Only the #7 Volt Aston Martin had any Championship potential going in the last round, but they needed something approaching a minor miracle if they were ever to overcome their points deficits to the then leading #95 BMW.

Never letting some hard racing get in the way of some fun on track, Gallagher was soon up a couple of positions in the opening minutes of the race last night whilst Brynjolfsson held station after having initially dropped down slightly on the opening lap.

Up ahead, the #56 Mercedes AMG was breaking away from the pack with a six second gap from first to fourth increasing to eight in only a few laps but then came the first of too many full course cautions that would blight the entertainment and during one, change the outcome of the 2021 season itself.

The first was just for a minor tag between a TCR and a GS car that left the latter stranded in a gravel trap but that would equate to thirteen minutes of lost race time by the time the race went back to green. The trouble is cautions is that they usually breed more cautions and that was so here as (this time) a TCR car soon became stranded after initially going back to green.

The #23 car would also fall foul of the rules during their second stop as Gallagher would be too quick on the accelerator pedal and took part of their refilling hose with him down the pitlane for which that would earn them a drive through penalty.

On the next restart, a pushing Brynjolfsson would cut the apex kerb of the final corner pushing inside to the #96 BMW (a crew in front of them in the championship) to clip the BMW on his outside and send it into the tyre wall on the outside of T17. The huge debris field and stranded car would make for another long FCY with a further 24 minutes of lost race time.

Eventually going back to green, McAleer was finally able to serve their penalty and that would drop them back down the order and then Hindman would have to do likewise for their earlier contact with the #96 car and all just before FCY number 4 came along for yet another stranded and damaged car off track.

By the time the wave around was complete, the #7 had dropped down to P17 and the #23 just behind in P18 as the cars had to wait until the race clock hit 33minutes remaining before they went back racing again.

Shortly after that the most pivotable and unfortunate moment of the race came about as the championship leading #95 BMW became entangled again with a car that wanted to win the race but not the championship. Contact between the #95 and the #56 left the #95 stuck in the gravel – out of the race and out of the top place in class for the Championship.

A crazy last fifteen saw further attrition that would see both Aston’s elevate themselves from P10 and P12 up to P6 and P8 for the #7 and #23 cars respectively. That was enough to take the #7 crew up to the same points score of the #96 BMW crew (who crashed out earlier in the race) but the #7 crew would claim third in class in the GS Championship by virtue of better results.

Congratulations to them

Two AMR Vantage GT4's see out finale of the Ultimate Cup Series at Estoril

Thursday, November 11, 2021

Two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s from two European based teams have made the long trip south to Estoril for the final round of the Ultimate Cup Series there this weekend.

The #16 Team Virage crew of Antonio Ledesma and Umberto D’Amato presently lie in second place of their GT class 5a class going into this final round having racked up a class win and second place finish in the two rounds that they have contested at both Paul Ricard and most recently at Le Mans.

Just seven points behind the leading CD Sport car of Thomas Accary and David Monclair after their two class wins from the opening two rounds that they attended; it will be as simple winner takes all affair this weekend.

Joining them in Portugal this weekend will also be the PROsport Racing AMR Vantage GT4 for drivers Nico Verdonck and his Gentleman driver client Rodrigue Gillion as they will race in both the NAPA GT Touring Endurance and Kennol GT Touring Sprint grids.

We expect this to be part of one final race weekend before winter and the Dubai 24 in early 2022 for both the team and drivers.

Two new Aston Martin Vantage GT3's to race at Macau Grand Prix

Thursday, November 11, 2021

This month’s Macau Grand Prix will mark a momentous event in the realms of Aston Martin Racing as the marque again gets represented at the prestigious event for the first time since 2015.

Racing back then with the venerable V12 variant of the Vantage GT3, the Craft Bamboo Racing team entered three such cars into the first running of what was then the FIA GT World Cup for drivers Stefan Mucke, Darryl O’Young and Richard Lyons for which Mucke claimed pole position for the weekend’s first race before eventually finishing P3 in both races.

This time in 2021 however, it is the turn of the Uno Racing Team with the assistance of the AMR appointed Motorsport Services Asia AMR crew to bring two of the latest V8 turbo charged Aston Martin Vantage GT3’s to the peninsula to race in the Sands China Macau GT Cup over the weekend of 19th-21st November.

Recently appointed GT Super Sprint Challenge Series runner up David Pun will be the driver of one of the cars with experienced GT racer Marchy Lee aboard the other.

Neither no stranger to the Macau street circuit, Pun last raced at the event in 2019 behind the wheel of an AMR Vantage GT4 from the Chinese based BSEM team (under his clothing firm’s Evisu Racing banner) where a last lap incident ruled out a podium finish for him but gained one for his then team mate.

Lee also comes with a long line of recent GT experience, racing before in single seaters and then in GT series such as Blancpain GT Asia, Asian Le Mans Series and the Japanese Super GT Series – mainly in an Audi R8 GT3 chassis.

These two Aston’s are due to compete in a provisional grid size of nineteen cars including a Mercedes AMG GT3 with O’Young aboard. The Uno Racing team have also had Adderly Fong driver coach Pun during the GTSSC season, and he was another driver who raced against the three Aston’s back in 2015!

Race one on Saturday afternoon is due to run over eight laps of the 3.8-mile street circuit with a further twelve lap race on Sunday.

D'Station Racing's AMR Vantage GT4 crew aim to make it a team double in finale of the Super Taikyu

Tuesday, November 09, 2021

This weekend also sees the final round of the Japanese Super Taikyu Series take place from Okayama Circuit with another packed multi-class grid of over fifty cars expected for the final three-hour event.

Whilst the D’Station Racing Team would normally be expected to field both an Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 and a Vantage GT4, their #777 GT3 crew of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and Tsubasa Kondo secured the ST-X (GT3) Championship at the last round from Suzuka.

That was just as well as both Hoshino and Fujii would have been required to self-isolate after their return from Bahrain where they and third driver Andrew Watson completed their first World Endurance Championship season together with two tough races in the desert to finish ninth overall at their first time of asking.

That leaves the team’s #47 AMR Vantage GT4 crew of Tatsuya Hoshino, Max Orido, Takuro Shinohara and Kenji Hama to fight it out in their thirteen strong ST-Z (GT4) class where they presently stand P2 in class going into this weekend’s finale where they lay just 9.5 points behind the class leading #3 Endless AMG GT4 team.
