A reduced headcount all round as four AMRs return for second round of Iberian Supercars

Wednesday, May 28, 2025

A somewhat reduced Aston Martin Racing powered entry of just four Vantage GT4 crews will take to the track of Jarama in central Spain this weekend for what will be the second round of the Iberian Supercars Series.

Having kicked off their 2025 season with a capacity grid in Portimao back in early April where we saw up to nine Aston Martins compete within the GT4/GTC based series, this weekend’s provisional entry list sees those four Aston’s compete within a thirty-three strong field.

This time, the AMR entry is from the Racar Motorsport team who will field three of their 17A variants within the main GT4 based body of the event whilst the NGT Classic team will be racing its older Vantage GT4 within the GTX class for its solo driver of Migual Ferriera which in turn maybe sporting a new look livery to it.

AMR Drivers Academy drivers Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria will be back within their Racar #77 car in GT4 Pro whilst the #79 Racar entry has morphed from the former #28 Araujo Competicao entry of Vasco Oliverira and Francisco Carvalho in GT4 Bronze after they swapped service providers between rounds.

The final #707 Racar entry will again be the GT4 Bronze entry for Filipe Videira and Antonio Lopes for this two-race weekend.

Six Aston Martin Vantage GT3s due for this weekends GTWCE Endurance Cup visit to Monza

Wednesday, May 28, 2025

The hectic back-to-back race weekends of the 2025 continue at an unabated pace this weekend for the Comtoyou Racing and Walkenhorst Motorsport Aston Martin Racing teams as both travel to the Temple of Speed for the latest round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.

Both teams were busy last weekend with multiple cars within both the DTM Series and N24 Qualifiers respectively and that continues this time around with five AMR Vantage GT3 entries as well as a single car entry from the Verstappen.com (2Seas Motorsport) for this second endurance round of the season.

Only a couple of weeks ago, all three teams were at Spa Francorchamps for the two-day Prologue test ahead of the Spa 24 in June and this weekend’s visit to Monza will become another dress rehearsal to that next round of the series.

First time out at Paul Ricard back in mid-April, that gruelling six hour season opener proved itself to be just as challenging as usual as just the new #33 Verstappen AMR crew of Thierry Vermeulen, Chris Lulham and Harry King found the route to a class podium with a P2 finish within their Gold class but will encouraging Pro class performances within the top ten overall for the #7 Comtoyou Racing of Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorenson, Mattea Drudi and the #34 Walkenhorst entry of Henrique Chaves, David Pittard and Christian Krognes.

This weekend’s visit to Italy will be back to the usual three-hour race length on Sunday having completed Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying on Saturday with an early start to individual Qualifying on Sunday morning.

This week’s entry list confirms no changes to the #21 Comtoyou entry for Nicolas Baert, Jamie Day and Kobe Pauwels; #35 Walkenhorst of Romain Leroux, Matteo Villagomez and Oliver Soderstrom nor the #270 Comtoyou entry for Antoine Potty, Jessica Hawkins and Alexandre Leroy.

Toughest racing test to date for the Heart of Racing Valkryie around the streets of Detroit in IMSA

Tuesday, May 27, 2025

The IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship breaks away from its usual supporting series this weekend as it’s just the topflight GTP and GTD Pro classes that get to race this time around the improvised street circuit of Detroit.

For the Heart of Racing team, that means just a solo effort from their #23 Aston Martin Valkyrie GTP car of Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis as this new programme takes on perhaps it’s most challenging event of its combined IMSA and World Endurance Championship efforts so far.

Having already raced around the street circuit of Long Beach in California earlier in the season, the Detroit circuit will be all about short bursts of speed and power intermingled with usually tight ninety-degree cornering around the usual block system of a major US city.

Last time out at Laguna Seca was one to forget for both Heart of Racing Valkyrie and Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD entries so getting back into the grove will be something of a must for the team but the Detroit Grand Prix event may not be the place where that happens but events on track may of course change the status quo very rapidly.

The entry list sees just eleven GTP and eleven GTD Pro entries for this one-hundred-minute sprint race on Saturday afternoon after Practice 1, 2 and Qualifying on Friday ahead of an effective twenty-minute morning warm-up session before the race.

Volante Rosso aiming to regain their points momentum in Queensland

Tuesday, May 27, 2025

Fourteen crews return for this weekend’s third round of the GT World Challenge Australia Series as Queensland Raceway this time plays host to the SRO series.

Having had something of a great start to the season, the Volante Rosso Aston Martin Racing team of Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser has something of a reality check last time out as the series raced both a night and day race from Sydney Motorsport Park.

Having scored a near maximum twenty-eight points at the season opener from Phillip Island, SMP only delivered the #1 AMR Vantage GT3 crew with just seven points over the two, hour long races which has dropped them down to fourth in their Pro-Am class.

Since then, Fraser has just been named within this year’s Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy process which will see him get both remote and personal driver coaching assistance which will hopefully see the #1 car elevate itself within the championship by the end of the weekend and at the halfway stage to the season.

D'Station Racing park the Aston for the Super Taikyu 24 Hours from Fuji

Tuesday, May 27, 2025

Interesting to read that the D’Station Racing Team have elected not to compete with their usual two car Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 and their Porsche 992 entries within this weekend’s third round of the Japanese Super Taikyu Series.

Having stepped back somewhat from international based series to concentrate upon their domestic Super GT and Super Taikyu Series endeavours, the team will be competing within this weekend’s series flagship event at the 24Hours of Fuji with a six-driver line up within their #47 Porsche.

The earlier two rounds of the series from both Motegi and Suzuka saw the #777 AMR powered trio of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fuji and Yuta Kamimura finish a distant fourth at the opening round before finishing third overall next time out, so to give way from the top ST-X class of the Aston Martin to the two-car entry of the ST-1is something of an ‘eyebrow’ raiser!!

Glimpses of potential within the AMR pairing at second round of DTM from the Lausitzring

Monday, May 26, 2025

The second round of the German DTM Series took place at the weekend from the Lausitzring with both Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 crews again in action.

With two more-hour long races around the fast and furious tri-oval infield circuit layout, it was always going to difficult for the two still relatively inexperienced GT3 racers in Gilles Magnus and Nicolas Baert to take the race to the peers, but improvements were still needed after the disaster of the opening round from Oschersleben.

Whilst never threatening within the first race, improve the two racers did as whilst others in front suffered incident and accident, the #7 (Magnus) and #8 (Baert) manged to bring their cars home in one piece for P18 and P19 finishes respectively at the end.

For the second race, Magnus had already shown some potential as he had qualified much further forward that either of them had previously done in P14, to even improve upon that during the race as he reached the heights of P11 overall just as the Safety Car was called for debris on track.

The restart unfortunately saw him vulnerable to those behind, and his track position quickly fell away as the laps passed, through the mandatory pit window and into the closing laps. Magnus would eventually finish P16 whilst Baert would suffer another DNF for his efforts.

The Series now moves onto Zandvoort for its third round in just a couple of weeks.

Solid start for the Team NZ squad at the Thailand Super Series opener

Monday, May 26, 2025

This weekend saw the return of the Thailand Super Series with the Team NZ Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 amongst its large entry as the cars did battle against themselves and the elements at the Chang International Circuit.

Returning for what we think is their third year within the series saw Grahame Dowsett joined by former AMR Drivers Academy winner Romain Leroux alongside him within his 17A version of the Vantage GT4 as they compete within the GT4 Pro class within the GT4/GTC races this season.

Heavy rain made its mark within Saturday’s opening hour long race after Dowsett had earlier qualified P5 in class, but a spin dropped him back to near last on track before a recovery drive from Leroux finally elevated them to P8 overall/P7 in class at the end.

For Sunday’s second race, Leroux had this time qualified the car upon the front row of the grid P2 overall and whilst pushing for the overall lead during the opening stint, had to settle for a P4 finish but third in class at the end.

The series now moves onto the Bangsaen Grand Prix in early July.

Oulton Park again excites with the two Aston Martin GT3s again in thick of the action

Monday, May 26, 2025

The British GT Championship’s annual visit to the north-west of the UK and the Oulton Park circuit never usually fails to disappoint in terms of simple racing spectacle and this Bank Holiday Monday’s race day was no different.

This year delayed within the season from its more traditional Easter weekend to that of the late May Bank Holiday weekend, saw the GT3 and Gt4 teams that did make the journey up the M6 tested to the maximum as blustery but dry conditions within the first hour long sprint race were soon replaced with a wet-drying-wet format within the second.

Having set the respective grids way back on a warmer and sunnier Saturday afternoon, the Blackthorn AMR and Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Racing powered crews were welcomed back to much cooler track conditions with the possibility of rain very much upon the cards.

Giacomo Petrobelli had qualified his #7 Blackthorn car onto the front row of the grid whilst Andrew Howard was further back in twelfth overall but more importantly P2 within his two-horse silver-am battle with the Honda.

Disaster would unfortunately suffer further class pain as opening corner contact saw his #97 consigned to the side of the track, nursing a rear puncture and whilst he would later return to the track and complete the race alongside co-driver Tom Wood – they would ultimately finish second in class to the #86 Bridger Motorsport Honda.

Meanwhile, the #7 Aston Martin of Petrobelli and Jonny Adam would have the pace to maintain their P2 position overall and was quickly approaching the end of his minimum drive time when the leading GT4 car spun out and hard into the barrier at Deer Leap to bring out the Safety Car.

Circulating under yellows, the GT3 pack pitted next time around but it was another fifteen minutes before the race got back to green after the #7 had served its five second success penalty awarded to it after its Silverstone result – something that dropped the car down to P4 upon exiting pit lane.

Going into the final minutes of the race, and with Adam setting the then fastest laps of the race in P3, it was all too close to call as 1-2-3-4 placed cars were all within a couple of cars lengths to one another as the #7 car eventually grabbed P3 overall at the end for another visit to the podium.

Race two later in the afternoon was, however, a different matter as rain was now falling, the track was distinctly wet but the selection over wets or slicks wasn’t exactly clear cut. With Adam this time taking the start from P5 and Wood again on class pole position in P10, it was surprisingly another clean start for the opening laps.

Conditions on track were quickly changing as many elected to stop and remove their wet tyres although both Aston Martins resisted the temptation in doing the same. As the laps passed by, those on slicks were initially quicker than those on wets but that was soon reverted as more rain came which forced those on slicks to seriously reconsider.

As the pit window opened, both Aston Martin’s were running within the top five with Adam in P3 and Wood in P5 but after their respective stops (which the #7 again had an additional five seconds to serve from its race 1 results) saw them emerge in P4 and the Beechdean of Howard now in sixth.

This time, there was no second leg push from the #7 Blackthorn car as they eventually had to settle for P4 overall but for the Beechdean crew, they had to watch an increasingly faster #86 Honda not just take another class win but also simply drive past others, like the #7 Blackthorn to score its first P3 finish overall – a worrying trend for the AMR crew as the season moves forward onto Spa Francorchamps in just over three weeks’ time.

Both Astons looking racey ahead of Monday British GT sprint races from Oulton Park

Saturday, May 24, 2025

The third round of the British GT Championship is warming up nicely up at Oulton Park after Free Practice, Pre-Qualifying and then individual Qualifying sessions set the grids for Bank Holiday Mondays first two sprint races of the season.

As previously listed, this sprint round sees just the two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s from both the Blackthorn AMR and Beechdean AMR teams take part as both Giacomo Petrobelli and Jonny Adam look to continue their fast pace within their #7 Pro-Am entry whilst Andrew Howard and Tom Wood seek to consolidate their position within their Silver-Am entered #97 car.

Starting upon something of a damp but drying track, both Aston crews showed immediate intent with the first track session of the day in Free Practice with both cars running second quickest in each class before the #97 car went sixth quickest overall in Pre-Qualifying.

The event then moved onto individual Qualifying sessions where each driver would run the car to determine their cars starting position in each of Monday’s two, one hour races with both Petrobelli and Howard (P12 overall) earning themselves a P2 start in class for race one.

Next it was the turn of both Adam and Wood to do likewise as Adam earned himself a third row start in P5 but with Wood scooping another Silver-Am Pole Position P10 overall.

With a day of twiddling their thumbs tomorrow, the two races start at 10:45 and 15:45hrs local on Monday.

Misfortune again follows the E2P Racing AMR team within the 24H Series

Saturday, May 24, 2025

If there was one Aston Martin Racing powered team that you would love to see at least finish a race this season, then that would have to be the Spanish based E2P Racing Vantage GT3 squad as they endured yet another DNF today.

Racing back in Italy this weekend for the third round of the 24H Series European Series from Misano, the #90 crew of Pablo Burguera, Antonio Sainero and Oliver Campos had hoped of better things after technical issues ended their opening two rounds of the season at both Barcelona and Spa.

Despite contending with some mixed weather at the circuit, the car did again qualify within the sharper end of the twenty-one strong grid in sixth, but their supposed twelve hours of racing lasted little over an hour before everything came crashing down again.

With Sainero this time starting the car under the morning sun, everything looked like it was warming up nicely in more ways than one in fifth place before (unseen) contact between the Aston Martin and the #888 Porsche saw them spin out and contact heavily with the tyre wall just after the top end of the first hour of racing.

Although recovered to the pit lane, sufficient repairs were made by the crew to return it to the action for a few more laps but with little chance of a points score and issues remaining within the car, the team sadly elected to withdraw the car again.

From here, things can only get better with the next round of the season coming up from Paul Ricard at the start of July.

Things can only get better for the Comtoyou Racing team in DTM this weekend

Wednesday, May 21, 2025

Twenty-four cars will compete at the Lausitzring this weekend in the second round of the German DTM Series.

Two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 cars from the Belgian based Comtoyou Racing team will again be part of that entry as Nicolas Baert and Gilles Magnes again prepare to compete within this fiercely competitive solo driver series within the #7 and #8 cars respectively.

The season opener from Oschersleben at the end of April couldn’t have gone much worse if it had tried after both Comtoyou Racing cars were disqualified after the opening race for failing to be weighed before going onto have another DNF for Baert with Magnes finishing last on track.

The Lausitzring Eurospeedway circuit affords itself towards the likes of Indianapolis and Daytona with the GT based cars using both the banked and infield sections of the circuit for their two fifty-five plus one lap races.

Whilst tyre change pit stops are mandatory, there is no refuelling with only one driver per car.

Hopefully, with fingers crossed, this weekend will go much better for them!

Leroux joins Dowsett aboard his Team NZ AMR for this years Thailand Super Series

Wednesday, May 21, 2025

The now SRO enhanced Thailand Super Series gets its 2025 programme of events underway this weekend with its first round of the year from the Chang International Circuit with Team New Zealand again flying the flag for Aston Martin Racing.

Grahame Dowsett is again back with his #7 EBM Motorsport prepared AMT Vantage GT4 whilst the one co-driving alongside him has made that relatively short journey from being the team’s driver coach on the pit wall to now being both that and the co-driver.

More known to us as being a continued part of the AMR representation within the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with the Walkenhorst Motorsport team, AMR Drivers Academy winner Romain Leroux continues his racing links within the Asian theatre with this (presumably) full season racing tie in with Dowsett.

Leroux has of course raced solo within the series at ad-hoc events like at the 2022 tie in with the F1 race in Singapore, but this time, this is the first he will have driven alongside

the Kiwi in this five-round series.

E2P Racing hoping for something positive within this weekends 24H Series visit to Misano

Wednesday, May 21, 2025

Spanish based E2P Racing will have headed over to Misano in Italy eager to finally show off their racing abilities within their (new for 2025) Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 Evo at the third round of the 24H Series.

Having got their European season underway at first Mugello and then most recently from Spa Francorchamps a month ago, apparent engine issues after an off in the wet of Mugello saw the team replace the engine only for more technical issues around the power plant saw the team lose out within their P2 overall qualifying position with another reluctant but necessary DNF.

This weekend’s second road trip to Italy sees the #90 of Pablo Burguera, Antonio Sainero and Oliver Campos driven car take on a slightly different look after a change in livery colour scheme came to light in recent test sessions.

Competing amongst another combined multi-class grid of twenty-one cars, the #90 car did not take part within todays available private test sessions at the circuit with further test sessions being available tomorrow ahead of the start to the more formally timed sessions on Friday.

This time the race will be run as one instead of the half and half format that the series has utilised up until now with the race starting early at 09:30hrs local.

Six Aston Martin crews involved in this weekends N24 Qualifiers

Tuesday, May 20, 2025

One hundred and nine mixed class cars and crews will line up at the Nurburgring Nordschleife for this weekend’s N24 Qualifiers with six Aston Martin Racing powered GT3 or GT4 crews amongst them.

Just four weeks splits this weekend before the main event of the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring where both the Walkenhorst Motorsport and Prosport Racing teams will represent the AMR brand with their respective GT3 and GT4 entries.

Many of these drivers have already been involved with the full season NLS Series entries for either team but this weekend’s two, four-hour races over both Saturday and Sunday will see many of these teams run a split driver line up for their full season NLS obligations as well as a change in class for one such crew this weekend. Expected crews within the N24 itself will differ again with possibly up to five drivers per entry.

Today’s published entry list sees the Walkenhorst team enter three GT3 cars within the SP9 class as well a one Vantage GT4 within the SP10 class whilst the locally based Prosport Racing team field two such Vantage GT4’s within that class.

#30 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT3 (SP9) – Henry Walkenhorst / Jorgg Breuer

#34 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT3 (SP9) – Christian Krognes / David Pittard

#35 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT3 (SP9) – Oliver Soderstrom / Chrisitian Bollrath

#37 Prosport Racing AMR Vantage GT3 (SP9) – Steven Palette / Marek Bockmann / Nico Bastian

#74 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT4 (SP10) – Aris Balanian / Joshua Hansen

#175 Prosport Racing AMR Vantage GT4 (SP10) – Yannik Himmels / Michel Albers / Jorg Viebahn

Time to go for a sprint or two in British GT this weekend from Oulton Park

Tuesday, May 20, 2025

Having competed at two endurance rounds so far, the British GT Championship moves onto the first of its sprint rounds from Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend with an expected entry list of twenty-three cars.

Being a sprint event, that sees a large reduction in especially the number of GT4 class runners as many of those are making use of the new for 2025 Endurance Cup class which obviously means that they sit out the sprint rounds.

For the Aston Martin Racing fraternity, that means that the #50 MKH Racing AMR Vantage GT4 of Peter Montague and Stuart Hall get another weekend off, with them returning for the ‘big one’ at Spa Francorchamps towards the end of June.

So that leaves just the two AMR Vantage GT3 crews from the Blackthorn AMR and Beechdean AMR teams with both Giacomo Petrobelli/Jonny Adam and Tom Wood/Andrew Howard aboard their #7 and #97 entries respectively.

After the opening rounds at both Donington Park and Silverstone, the #7 Pro-Am entry certainly picked up the need to return to the front of the pack after a poor start to the season after accident damage and the resulting penalties blighted their Donington opener to qualify third and finish fourth overall and in class at the end of the Silverstone 500.

The #97 Beechdean crew continue to lord it up within their silver-am class after a class pole position and P1 finish at Donington was followed up with a P2 start and P2 finish at Silverstone to lead that class into the two Oulton Park races.

For this weekend, that twenty-three cars will be made up of fifteen GT3 runners and just eight GT4 crews that will run along the usual Bank Holiday weekend format for Oulton Park of Free Practice, Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying on Saturday before the two, hour long races spread across either side of lunch on the MONDAY.
